Fantastic display by Italy.
Well done on the English supporters in the stand that waited for presentation- true fans.
Cmon Italy

Furries · 11/07/2021 23:19

Great team, great manager. Am gutted at the result, but they should be blooming proud of themselves.

Onwards to the World Cup.

walksen · 11/07/2021 23:19

Christ sake whats wrong with you lot???

"These players dont want 2nd best. They are professional sportsmen, 2nd best doesn't count to them

If you dont like it go back to your rugby"

England rugby team did the same when they lost to SA........

Terhou · 11/07/2021 23:19

At least we're spared the spectacle of Johnson taking the credit. Quite a major bonus.

Sparklingbrook · 11/07/2021 23:19

Even when DSs played football tournaments when they were young they would take their second place medals off straight away. They wanted to win and at that moment straight after the match they didn't want a reminder they'd lost.

Xmasbaby11 · 11/07/2021 23:19

It was a tough game and Italy played better. My heart broke for the England guys who missed the penalties though. The pressure must be immense and to come to terms with missing, after coming so close, is really hard.

ladygindiva · 11/07/2021 23:20

I think ronaldo famously tossed his runner up medal on the ground once. The England players were pretty restrained.

Waitrosedisaster · 11/07/2021 23:20

@Tippexy

What possesses Rashford to do that tap dance?!

Too much ego, not enough focus on the task in hand.

Definitely. Whatever he did looked arrogant as hell. You could 100% tell her was going to miss. He must be very embarrassed

Not the way "professional sportsmen" should behave.
DuncinToffee · 11/07/2021 23:20

Apparently the Brazil players did the same last night

Yes they are gutted.

@UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername

Why are so many of the England team taking their medals off literally as soon as they're put on?
Because they just lost. The medals are perceived as ‘losers’ medals’.

Agreed. Amazing they made it this far. The squad looks strong and can only get stronger for 2022.
DysonSphere · 11/07/2021 23:20

Lessons learned. World cup ahead. Team should be confident!

MrsJackGrealish · 11/07/2021 23:21

I wish I could give them all a hug and tell them how fantastic they have been.

ReviewingTheSituation · 11/07/2021 23:21

You don't see Olympic silver medal winners taking their medals off on the podium. I get that they wanted to win, but to take it off before it's even properly on feels disrespectful to me.

AngeloMysterioso · 11/07/2021 23:21

Rashford missed before his foot touched the ball with that ridiculous run up.

@seething1234

Taking the medals straight off looks so disrespectful and makes them look like bad losers
My thoughts exactly. At least wait until off camera.
Noterook · 11/07/2021 23:22

Plenty of players have little rituals when taking penalties, I don't see how that suggests he has a big ego. The Italian goalkeeper is pretty fucking good, to get him diving the other way was good, it's just a shame he misjudged it.

DysonSphere · 11/07/2021 23:22

We didn't press after the first goal. I think it was strategy and not so much play that ran us foul. Maybe the team was just tired...
IcedPurple · 11/07/2021 23:23

I think a lot of people here must never have watched a football final before. It's pretty common for players to take off the 'losers'' medals as soon as they are given to them.

Furries · 11/07/2021 23:23

Not an easy part of the job, having to give commentary afterwards. They do seem like a really close and supportive team.

BrozTito · 11/07/2021 23:23

Manager chooses penalty takers. Its a whole diferent sport, so you might think just stick on strikers for penalties but often defenders have better composure/wont fuck about dancing around and put it in

PositiveLife · 11/07/2021 23:23

This!

I so wanted England to win after that shirt pulling but Rashford's run up was just ridiculous

Because in the Olympics silver is still better than many other competitors. In a football match between 2 people, it is not. You can tell some people don't watch sport, it's not uncommon for this to be the case at all, England aren't being disrespectful ffs it happens most matches.
