Why are so many of the England team taking their medals off literally as soon as they're put on?

ApplyWithin · 11/07/2021 23:13

No way to end a match. Tried to console my sad DS that it’s just a way to solve a draw.

A couple of those penalties were shockers but never mind.

I do wish they wouldn’t rip their silver medals off though as soon as they’re presented with them. Poor sportsmanship.

DysonSphere · 11/07/2021 23:13

@Lampzade

Just worried about the thousands of women who will be the victims of domestic violence. Also concerned about racial abuse against the two black players who missed the penalties
God can you imagine Sad
apricotdreams · 11/07/2021 23:13

Because second doesn't mean anything to them

Not two, three black players
Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/07/2021 23:14

Commentators here praise the behaviour of the English fans and expect great things of the team.
See you all then ...

ssd · 11/07/2021 23:14

They aren't bad sports dont be ridiculous

They are absolutely gutted

MotionActivatedDog · 11/07/2021 23:14

Taking their medals off!? Shock

seething1234 · 11/07/2021 23:15

Taking the medals straight off looks so disrespectful and makes them look like bad losers

MrsJackGrealish · 11/07/2021 23:15

Taking them off because they probably fucking heartbroken.

They know they could have won and didnt. That's a bitter pill to swallow.

I don't get it though. They played well. Someone has to lose. It's poor sportsmanship.
FootballisgoingtoRome · 11/07/2021 23:15

Fantastic scenes for Italy so happy for them

Tippexy · 11/07/2021 23:16

What possesses Rashford to do that tap dance?!

Too much ego, not enough focus on the task in hand.

ssd · 11/07/2021 23:16

Christ sake whats wrong with you lot???

These players dont want 2nd best. They are professional sportsmen, 2nd best doesn't count to them

If you dont like it go back to your rugby

Tense game. On balance the best team won, especially as they've had the harder games against the like of Belgium and spain and were playing away.

Meltinthemiddle · 11/07/2021 23:17

They were there to win not come second. Maybe they will feel proud once they get over their heart break of losing. They should be proud.

Idontlikeshouting · 11/07/2021 23:17

I knew as soon as we went into extra time Italy would win.

Bad penalties but just one of those things...you can't blame individuals really.

I'm curious to know if Southgate picked the order or if players volunteer? Would have thought Sterling and Grealish should have gone before Rashford and Sancho??

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 11/07/2021 23:17

I don’t get the taking the medals off straight away as they won that but lost to the champions. They need to learn to accept defeat and do better next time and respect the their performance and in this tournament losing to the standout best team. England beating Germany was an eye opener and very satisfactory especially as it was clear win. England just don’t have confidence in penalties under pressure.

Players often do this when they lose. The losers' medals don't mean anything to them. They were in it to win it.
DuncinToffee · 11/07/2021 23:18

Rashford's ego, oh do piss off

Noterook · 11/07/2021 23:18

Plenty of teams take medals off as soon as they are awarded them, they lost, they want to shake hands with the winners and head to the locker room, not accept a silver which actually means losers in this scenario. It's not something just england does.

Whinge · 11/07/2021 23:18

They might be gutted about coming second, but taking the medals off comes across as sore losers and gives the press another angle to criticise them. not that they need any additional reasons Just be proud of coming this far, and complain in private; if you must. Very few footballers get the chances they have, and the sulking is such a bad message to portray to the many young fans watching.
MarshaBradyo · 11/07/2021 23:18

I really feel for Rashford it was a great start and open, then so close
