Following on from previous thread.

Just found you all... When Southgate missed the penalty 25 years ago I was in hospital with pre eclampsia prior to the arrival of ds2..
June 26th 1996 was the Euro Football Semi Final between England and Germany and I managed to persuade the midwives to wheel me into the breakfast room where another lady and I were allowed to watch the match.... It was an excellent match... It went to penalties. Several times the midwives poked their heads in wanting to take my last blood pressure reading.. I unfortunately got quite over invested in the penalty shootout and while managing to not wake the rest of the ward up by shouting I did get quite stressed. History dictates that Gareth Southgate missed his penalty and I was despondently wheeled back to bed and awaited the midwife.... My blood pressure had up that moment remained as calm as the proverbial millpond... I noticed the midwives face change colour after she took it and i watched anxiously as she charted it on my record... All I can say is it looked like a mini pyramid had appeared on my chart... The Midwife drew a little line off it with an asterix and wrote EURO 96 PENALTY SHOOT OUT next to it!!

I came home from hospital the day that England won the World Cup in 1966 and family legend has it that my Dad held newborn me up to the television saying "You'd better wake up and see this as it probably won't happen again in your lifetime". So far he's been right of course....but this is looking like the closest thing since then! I'm not even a football fan, but it is quite exciting!

Glad they went through but-

Kane was atrocious tonight.
Grealish being subbed was madness.
Schmeichel was fantastic.
The penalty given was… a reach. And Kane’s taking of it was shit, followed swiftly by lucky.

Italy will win the final if England play like they did tonight. They got through based on sheer luck.

I read somewhere that games originally supposed to be held in Brussels were redesignated and awarded to Wembley on top of the ones scheduled there already. That's why so many held in London. Apparently Brussels new stadium build was behind schedule or something so they lost their matches.

It wasn't pretty and Denmark will feel robbed I guess, but that's football and after so many years of ' hurt ' I guess it's their time to play a final at long last.

The Germany England match waa originally meant to have taken place in Dublin but the Irish authorities didn't agree to having spectators present. So it went to Wembley, and the rest is history.

I'm Scottish but a lot of English family so was happy to cheer them on! I think Italy will win but I'll be hoping for England.
