In the spirit of previous rolling Football threads, would posters sign in with:

  1. What country/countries you support
  2. What country teams you particularly dislike (Euro or world)?
  3. What things your family are doing to get your kids excited about the Euro 2016 tournament?
  4. A comment about a player or two, or an issue or two.

Well... That lead lasted long

GrimmauldPlace · 27/06/2016 20:29

Fuck sake. Fucking Joe Hart.

PanEuropeanPan · 27/06/2016 20:47

Well this is interesting, isn't it?

GrimmauldPlace · 27/06/2016 20:57

That's one word for it. I can think of a few stronger ones.

Lweji · 27/06/2016 21:28

Impressed with Vardy. He was made to fall, rolled over and chased the ball like a maniac.

Orangetoffee · 27/06/2016 21:54

Well done Iceland! They deserved it, England were awful.

GrimmauldPlace · 27/06/2016 21:57

DD's first prediction seemed to be right then before she was coerced in to changing her answer so I'm going to put a bet on the next match with whoever she says will win.

Nothing to say about the match. Fair play Iceland. Well deserved.

PanEuropeanPan · 27/06/2016 22:02

Something was missing. IT was just about the most quality-free game this tournament.

Except for Iceland. They knew when to press and when to back off. At times they were even pressing on the 40 yd area. England had lots of opportunities to exploit the space but didn't. Iceland's shape was perfect throughout. Never in doubt who would cover. Knew when to double up. Knew who was fragile on the ball.
England were out played in their heads by.....? Iceland.

GrimmauldPlace · 27/06/2016 22:04

Rashford changed something when he came on. If only it wasn't in the 85th minute!!

GiraffesAndButterflies · 27/06/2016 22:07

Iceland.

Fuck me.

PanEuropeanPan · 27/06/2016 22:08

Well yes. Rashford should have started. Fast feet and awareness of what's around him.

Quite WTF Kane was doing starting is a mystery. The England coaching staff MUST have know that the Icelanders knew about him and would nulify him. Which they did.

Just utterly shocking tactics and team choice.

PanEuropeanPan · 27/06/2016 22:12

Apart from failing to beat Poland in 1973 for WC qualifier at Wembley that must have been the most abject display by an English footie team since being beaten 1160 - 0 by Hungary in the year dot.

GrimmauldPlace · 27/06/2016 22:12

I still can't figure out why Kane was taking the free kicks and corners?

Round of 16 and Roy still didn't have his starting 11. Dread to think what the score would have been against France.

I shall now be rooting for Wales and Iceland. I think Italy will win it.

I see Roy is giving his leaving speech.

PanEuropeanPan · 27/06/2016 22:15

Of course Well Done Iceland!

But there wasn't much opposition.

derxa · 27/06/2016 22:46

I think England choked because there is so much pressure on them.

PanEuropeanPan · 27/06/2016 22:53

Well not really.

  1. All of those players have played under extreme pressure with their clubs. They know what elite sportsmen face.
  2. Beating Iceland isnt a pressure. It's a formality.

They just got lazy in their heads.FFS Scotland could have done better than England. Smile

Orangetoffee · 27/06/2016 23:00

France was under a lot more pressure and they managed to pull themselves together in the second half.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 27/06/2016 23:11

I was tired watching that .

laylabelle · 27/06/2016 23:20

Deserved. A lot seemed to think game was won before it'd been played and forgot how poor we'd been in the group stage. Hart woops but nothing really worked

BelfastBloke · 30/06/2016 19:40

Decent post-mortem on ITV just now.

OK, who's up for seeing Portugal get destroyed? Pepe was an embarrassment in the Champs League, and Ronaldo is totally irritating (despite having an admirable work ethic).

Meanwhile, Fabianski is playing better for Poland than he ever did for Arsenal, and Lewandowski is class.

All I want to know is what little MissFizzy is saying about the game.

BelfastBloke · 30/06/2016 20:05

Yessss! Get in!

GrimmauldPlace · 30/06/2016 20:08

I didn't ask her! It wasn't until DH changed the channel midway through friends that I realised there was a match on tonight. Was convinced the first match was tomorrow. Duh. She's in bed now but just asked DS and he says Poland. I should imagine the current score probably influenced his decision though!

Lweji · 30/06/2016 20:33

I could be upset that Ronaldo wasn't given a penalty just now, but then he'd probably miss it. Hmm

Lweji · 30/06/2016 20:37

Well, I'm quite pleased with that heel. At least (and at last) Nani failed to pass the ball to a Polish player.
