The rolling Football Thread (including EURO 2016!).

In the spirit of previous rolling Football threads, would posters sign in with:

  1. What country/countries you support
  2. What country teams you particularly dislike (Euro or world)?
  3. What things your family are doing to get your kids excited about the Euro 2016 tournament?
  4. A comment about a player or two, or an issue or two.

Serious Steve, does your antipathy to Aaron Ramsey mean you're a Stoke fan? That's the only reason I can think of.

I was thinking either stokie or spurs for serious Steve Smile

Oh, and I do declare!

  1. Republic of Ireland and England. I also wish Northern Ireland and Wales well.
  2. Portugal, and the Argies.
  3. Bunting and Panini stickers. Probably buy them footy shirts this half term.
  4. Roy Hodgson's refusal to take enough centre-backs is going to come back to bite him. Too many midfielders, not enough defenders.

Evening folks! We think AIBU may not be the right place for this thread. We've seen that in the past these have been posted both in Sport and Dadsnet. We'll move it to Sport now but, OP, if Dadsnet is its natural home, just let us know and we can shift it over there.

Lweji · 29/05/2016 20:28

if Dadsnet is its natural home

What?!?

ClashCityRocker · 29/05/2016 20:35

Why is dadsnet it's natural home?

Sorry, can we start a new thread so we can discuss what tasty half time snacks we can prepare whilst our husbands watch the football?!

Will of course be cheering England on, but hoping Wales do well.

Dislike Portugal - don't like the style of play and think last tournament they were, erm, a bit divey.

No kids, but we've booked days off for the England group matches

I am cautiously optimistic. I think we have a decent team up front, defence is the main concern. Think this team have a bit more about them than the last few tournaments.

BranTriLlygaid · 29/05/2016 20:42

'Dadsnet is its natural home'??! Wow, just wow. Should have stopped at 'moving to sports'.....

OnYerBikePan · 29/05/2016 20:50

FFS Iona - are you still in 1975?

ilovesooty · 29/05/2016 20:54

Iona!!Shock

KenDoddsDadsDog · 29/05/2016 20:56

Yes because only men like football ....

OnYerBikePan · 29/05/2016 20:58

The rolling footie thread hasn't been in D/N for about 4 years, I think. Because, you know, we change with the times.

IamaBluebird · 29/05/2016 21:10

Iona, dadsnet for a football thread. Think you've just started your own aibu thread. Grin

OnYerBikePan · 29/05/2016 21:11

C'mon Iona, just a nice "woops" would do. or blame it on a blonde moment Grin

OnYerBikePan · 29/05/2016 21:15

in actual footie news, Scotland are drawing 1-0 in Italy. Which is a sort of victory so far..

BranTriLlygaid · 29/05/2016 21:28

Actually, i think an actual apology is needed here, rather than an 'oops moment'. It's not in the spirit of the site' as some may say, to assume this should be in the dad-area of the forum.

Lweji · 29/05/2016 21:35

Reported. Grin

OnYerBikePan · 29/05/2016 21:36

That's good going from Scotland, not watched the game though.

I think it'll be an interest competition this year and suspect the winner will be a surprise.

OnYerBikePan · 29/05/2016 21:47

"suspect the winner will be a surprise." Not bloody Leicester again.Smile

BelfastBloke · 29/05/2016 21:48

The original rolling Footie thread was in Dadsnet because there wasn't a 'Sport' section at that time. But that was a long time ago. I suppose it also highlighted to people that a Dadsnet section existed.

I love the fact that the Guardian website's front page has both a 'Sport' section and a 'Football' section. Shows how important it is in British culture.

When the Guardian expanded its website to cover USA and Australia in much more depth, they discussed whether their section should be 'Sport' or 'Sports'. Basically, in the UK the Guardian's section is 'Sport', but when I go to the USA and read the front page of the website, the section is called 'Sports'.

Mumsnet's section is called 'Sports'. Obviously Iona is a wannabe American...

Or Greece. Hmm

Lweji · 29/05/2016 21:50

Obviously Iona is a wannabe American...

Yes, that was the whole problem with her post. Grin

I actually prefer the Telegraph Sports section. I always have more trouble finding what I'm looking for in the Guardian.

IonaMumsnet · 29/05/2016 22:00

Cor blimey! . Apologies if my missing S has caused uproar! Absolutely no offence was meant to football, the sisterhood or anyone else.
Yes, to clarify, the post was as BelfastBloke has described: these threads have been rolling a long time. One has appeared in SportS and the rest in Dadsnet. When we said 'natural home' we meant only that it was where regular posters on the threads might expect to find it, as that is where several threads have been posted previously.
Are we to understand that a move to SportS was the right move then? If everyone is happy we'll leave it here.

OnYerBikePan · 29/05/2016 22:04

"the sisterhood" Really?

put the JCB down, just say sorry, and there will be no need for a club fine. Which the club will pay anyway. Not sure all that fining system works really.
