In the spirit of previous rolling Football threads, would posters sign in with:

  1. What country/countries you support
  2. What country teams you particularly dislike (Euro or world)?
  3. What things your family are doing to get your kids excited about the Euro 2016 tournament?
  4. A comment about a player or two, or an issue or two.

Ah poor diddums Ronaldo Grin

Felt sorry for Iceland, Belgium and big Rom were simply to good for Rep of Ireland.

Lweji · 19/06/2016 07:08

I noticed last night that there's a comedy TV show in Portuguese TV called "it's Ronaldo's fault". Grin
I suspect it's their fault he's jinxed.

Love Bale and Pogba Hate England-centric TV coverage. Gabby Logan- her father was a Welsh international yet there she is gushing over the England players.
ThisPanCanCan · 20/06/2016 07:48

Prediction? Someone will score in last 5 mins/added on time.

BelfastBloke · 20/06/2016 09:54

Mr Woy is making a lot of changes for England tonight.

I love Wilshire, and trust him in midfield. But if Mr Woy IS intending for Rooney to be his new midfielder, surely Rooney needs more practice in the role? As far as i know he's only played there in the FA Cup final, and in the two Euro games so far.

Why has Mr Woy rested Rooney for tonight? Slovakia aren't pushovers, and 6 changes to a team is a lot.

"We've got our best players playing in their best positions.

I know. I'll change it."

BelfastBloke · 20/06/2016 13:00

However there is an argument to say that a knackered Harry Kane wasn't he best player, and playing Sturridge and Vardy as a two tonight IS playing best players in best position.

As a ManU scumbag, Pan, are you saying that Rooney in midfield is best player in best position? Would you play Rooney if you were Mr Woy right now, in this competition? Where would you play him?

OP posts:
ThisPanCanCan · 20/06/2016 13:28

Well as an Arse tissue paper, BB......

yes I agree Sturridge and Vardy remain, with poss Rashford later, and Rooney is def. best player in best position - he's played there (and everywhere else for ManU) lots of times over the years, and looks like he has leaned oddles from Paul Scholes (except for the tackling bit) - when there's so many attackers available then he needs to drop back imo.

Quite why Henderson is getting anywhere near a national shirt is a bit of a stumper.

BelfastBloke · 20/06/2016 14:56

Oh shit, they're not playing Henderson, are they?

Interesting what you say about Rooney, Pan. It makes sense to play him in midfield, and he's done well in the games I know about. But you say he's played there a lot more than I thought? And are you saying he can tackle better than Scholes (who was dreadful at it)?

So you think he does have the tactical discipline, now, to play the role? He certainly didn't use to have any tactical discipline.

OP posts:
ThisPanCanCan · 20/06/2016 15:12

No Scholesy couldn't tackle for a toffee.

He plays neat inter-play, and knows how to thread a pass ( remember one that set up Alli in the opening game?) and sprays the ball around (though mainly to the right side) over long distances with accuracy.

Reminds of best Colemanballs : Scottish tv commentator saying " That pass was brilliant - just a yard away from being an inch-perfect pass" HmmSmile

BelfastBloke · 20/06/2016 15:20

Heh.

So you don't share my view that Rooney needs tonights match to become more accustomed to the role, and to his teammates.

In that case, it IS a good move to turn over the role to Super-Jacky-Wilshire.

No Rooney doesn't need that practice.

Wilshere - I have much less confidence than yourself. Bit reckless, thin-skinned, doesn't look up and prone to get crocked i..e. see the reckless bit....

Saint Etienne is where Eng-er-land were knocked out against Argentina? Interesting. Or not...a gazillion years later.

BelfastBloke · 20/06/2016 20:12

Well, Marseilles repeated itself, so ...

Wales have scored:

As things stand, Wales top group, and England in second.

As things stand that would make England play someone like Iceland or Austria on Monday night. But then meet France in the QFs, I believe.

Topping the group is much better in terms of drawing lesser teams

OP posts:
BestIsWest · 20/06/2016 20:20

Wales have scored again!

BelfastBloke · 20/06/2016 20:46

I know Wilshire has played ok, but I have noticed more his passes which have gone awry. Time for Rooney?

OP posts:
ThisPanCanCan · 20/06/2016 20:50

Well I think so. As Jackie gets more frustrated bad things will happen.

ThisPanCanCan · 20/06/2016 20:56

Jamie is getting rather unproductive. Later on have Rashford using his fast feet against a tiring defence?

ThisPanCanCan · 20/06/2016 21:06

In fact with Slovakia offering so little you could have 3 strikers on. 3 at the back and shove all lines a bit more fwd.

BelfastBloke · 20/06/2016 21:17

Yeah

OP posts:
ThisPanCanCan · 20/06/2016 21:20

Which is what they are doing really. Clyne hasn't defended at all in the 2nd half?

BestIsWest · 20/06/2016 21:24

3-0 to Wales.

BelfastBloke · 20/06/2016 21:29

Sturridge had to score that!

Bring on Kane. No, bring on Rashford, like Pan says
