Hi all! I'm not sure if this is the right place so please forgive and guide if not!!! I will post a pic in the next comment incase you don't want to see it!

I've had (what I think is) a verruca for what seems like forever (which is an absolute nightmare with OCD). Tonight I peeled some skin off and managed to take a little chunk out too.. what would you do next? Will the white (dead?) Skin just fall off on its own? Would you carry on treating it? Would you give it a break to see what it does? I just want a summer of sandals 😭

@isthismylifenow what did you do with the apple cider vinegar? I think I used that 10 years ago but it was vinegar on some cotton wool, wrapped in duct tape, which I'm not sure I could manage with my OCD, i.e. it being wet..

I've just picked away a good few layers and it has started bleeding, general area but below where I think the verruca exactly is. Going to do some proper slicing when I get home from my holiday and have a good look!

Oh wow, this is a thing of beauty
(Sorry, I know you don't like it!)

MoonKiss · 28/05/2024 22:53

Nail clippers are your friend. You can kind of nip the skin off until you see the black roots, then treat them. Think of them like garden weeds - you need to pour the weedkiller onto the weed stem and into the root, not just on the soil (skin) covering it.

I used to have almost 20 verrucas on my foot for over 15 years. Until a podiatrist told me to buy cheap sandpaper, rip a piece off every 3-4 days and sand it. Binning the used piece and using a fresh one each time. They all disappeared in a month.

Also recently found one on my sons foot which was massive. Used the same method and its now gone!

BringMeSunshineAllDayLong · 28/05/2024 23:32

I had a very similar verruca for 12 long and painful years..it was horrific . I tried absolutely everything (gp iced it, bazzoka, cutting it out, bicarb all sorts) than some wonderful person on MN suggested to use nail varnish on it everyday for a month. It absolutely worked and it went and has never come back

Yes it was on cotton pad and taped on. It didn't hurt at first, but there were times in the night I would wake and could feel it throbbing. So I knew it was doing something.

If you could try it again it might be the perfect time as you are near the root now. The root is black. It's a beautiful moment when you do get to yank it out.

How does nail polish work when it's open like this? Isn't that more for when it's still closed up and the sucker just gets suffocated?

Verrucahelp · 29/05/2024 12:10

Thank you everyone. I really appreciate the help and not being judged! I'm on my way home from my holiday so tonight I'm going to get rid of all the dead skin, see what it looks like, and try the nail varnish trick I think!! What I'm using clearly isn't doing the job. If nail varnish fails I'll go for apple cider vinegar!

It's driving me mad that I cannot get a clear picture of it 😒 also, realised I have no nail varnish (only gel polish) so will have to venture to get some tomorrow. I was cutting off some of the dead skin tonight and obviously sliced off some healthy skin because it bled for ages! This is post shower (I didn't realised until after that there was tissue stuck to it!)

It’s zoomed in, it isn’t a giant hole.

Pic of Martian mountain surely?

Queenfreak · 06/06/2024 21:41

If you've made it bleed then your immune system may well kick in and sort it for you. I had a few for years- I nicked one with my nail scissors, and boom- gone 2 days later

tumtitum · 06/06/2024 21:46

Have you tried having it frozen? I had a stubborn verruca for years, had tried loads of shop bought stuff and nothing worked. I eventually bought a podiatry treatment (on Groupon of all places 🤣) and had it frozen once. They tried to sell me two further appointments saying that's what it needed but I couldn't afford it. Anyway it never came back after that one session of being frozen!! It did hurt but worth it

RicherThanYews · 07/06/2024 00:16

That is truly beautiful, well done. I have nothing constructive for you but ... wow.

Oblomov24 · 07/06/2024 06:20

I now think that it's at quite the early stages of coming out. It's not as well developed as previous picture made me think. It definitely needs a little more treatment, before the black spots are going to come out.

connie26 · 07/06/2024 06:25

Yes, that looks like a verruca. Black tape worked a treat for my dd. Leave in place to sweat out. Very satisfying when it eventually drops off.

EdithGrantham · 07/06/2024 07:03

I think the last one I had years ago I sorted by covering it with duct tape replaced every few days, I don't remember it taking too long and it eventually just kind of pulled off when I took the tape off one day.

Verrucahelp · 17/06/2024 18:51

I am currently trying the nail varnish method! This is day 1 vs day 8 (today).. looks like its starting to peel around the edges.. is this a good sign?!

Yes, keep going I'd say, from memory the core bit of mine came to the surface like that then one day just came out completely

Verrucahelp · 23/06/2024 18:49

The nail varnish keeps peeling after a few days 😫 this is it tonight... it's a white lump now!

White skin is generally dead skin, so that seems like a good sign

Foraging4choc · 24/06/2024 08:19

You need to keep on applying the nail polish. I painted a coat on every night

I do keep reapplying when it peels off! Peeled off twice now, the first took more skin with it. I will persevere! I am also applying every night.

Are the dark bits the nail varnish, or blood?

Verrucahelp · 24/06/2024 19:49

@NotJohnMajor that is nail varnish! Put a fresh layer on last night and it came off today when I took my plaster off!! No idea where I'm going wrong with it. It's back on again though now. We try!

Ok so with my daughter we used nail polish. I was incredibly sceptical but nothing else worked. Three weeks later the whole thing fell off. Might be worth a try. She was terrible, wouldn't let me scrape it or poke it. Very unsatisfying Grin

@Verrucahelp triceratopsiosis Did it peel? My nail varnish keeps peeling off! But it doesn't seem to be taking anything from underneath with it....
