Is this a boil?! Help!

This appeared as a tiny spot after doing a quick shave. I suspect now the razor may have been blunt.
it just keeps getting bigger and more painful and now the area around it is swollen and red too.

I’ve tried magnesium sulphate paste today - is it supposed to make it bigger before it dries it out?

I’ve had little spots before but nothing like this. Is it a boil? Do I try to burst it? I think I might pass out with pain if I try. It looks worse than it is in the picture and I’m desperate to get rid!

HELP

You must be exhausted OP.

I’m so proud of you for slaying that filthy freak of a beast.

Try and get some kip. Wash sheets and clothes at 60 for a bit to kill its evil spawn.

Ooooo sounds wonderful!!

It'll be ok, your on antibiotics and TCP is wonderful stuff .

It was not the most fun. I have a pic after the plastic surgery on it too

Am I right in thinking you kindly shared your pix with us before? I feel I've seen it in cresting majesty previously but it's fab to have a second look. Just looked vaguely familiar. Shape-wise. For us aficionados. The sporner cognoscenti.

Spoke too soon! Just had an absolute explosion of bloody gunk. Unfortunately I wasn’t expecting it and where I have open sores from the plaster I think some may have got in them 🙈 so am hoping I don’t get any further infection!
have cleaned it all up with TCP and antiseptic wipes and put more antiseptic cream on all the sore areas. Hoping the fact I’m already in antibiotics will keep any further infection at bay.

im amazed that it’s still as big as it is considering how much has come out of it already!

This is Vesuvian quality, OP. Keep it coming.

Nope not me! I must have a sporning doppelgänger! This is my first rodeo and it’s already been quite a ride…

Ah no, I was meaning @peloaddict - hers was the shape and colour that looked familiar. But yours is ghoulishly great too. Really fabulous debut, 10/10. I'm hoping you have a more comfortable night, with some bubbling up by the morning for round 2-3.

Mariposista · 28/07/2022 23:50

You must be so relieved OP - looks very sore but a lot less angry. Keep it clean and agree with PP, get a second round of antibiotics if you suspect more infection. You don’t want an abscess.

PeloAddict · 28/07/2022 23:58

@friskybivalves yes! When I first had surgery on it I posted the before and after

IrisVersicolor · 29/07/2022 00:04

I really wouldn’t dick around with all this DIY a stuff OP, however much the crowd urges you on, you’re risking a deeper infection.

I recently had a cyst on my back that suddenly started growing and turned into an abscess. Went to the GP, was given antibiotics. Nonetheless it grew from 3 cm to 8 cm diameter within 48 hours. Pain went all the way through my shoulder and down my arm. Went to A&E to have it drained. Ended up with fever for several days and intravenous antibiotics. I have had to have the wound packed and drained every day for the last month.

You simply will not be able to drain it as effectively and efficiently as a medical professional. And as long as it is not properly dressed and packed the infection can spread.

I thought A+E was OTT too but in fact they have to do a local anaesthetic and an incision and that can’t be done by minor injury units.

How are you doing now @Reesewithafork ?

colourmebladd · 20/08/2022 07:55

How is it now, OP?

Reesewithafork · 21/08/2022 20:25

I'm sorry I abandoned the thread, you probably thought the boil had taken over and was having a merry time. Fortunately, I won the battle. It took five days for it to fully drain and I've got a bit of a scarred arm pit, so it definitely made its mark. The magnesium and hot compresses did the job though!

My armpit still isn't back to normal and feels like there's a bit of lumpy tissue where the boil was and around the area - scar tissue I'm presuming, but I'll keep an eye on it.

I was glad to serve Sporner's Corner with my updates, but I hope I don't get another opportunity to do so!

I suspect the lump is remaining obstinate bits of cyst. I had something similar and there's an little lumpy area which occasionally flares up a bit, but disappointingly not enough to come to a head and discharge. Is it worth seeing if the doctor can get the cyst sac out?

Reesewithafork · 21/08/2022 23:02

@Novum yes I think I’m going to leave it a week or two then go and see them if it’s still there as it still feels a bit tender as well if I press against it
