Is this a boil?! Help!

This appeared as a tiny spot after doing a quick shave. I suspect now the razor may have been blunt.
it just keeps getting bigger and more painful and now the area around it is swollen and red too.

I’ve tried magnesium sulphate paste today - is it supposed to make it bigger before it dries it out?

I’ve had little spots before but nothing like this. Is it a boil? Do I try to burst it? I think I might pass out with pain if I try. It looks worse than it is in the picture and I’m desperate to get rid!

Update! I think it has a head?? I can see a tiny white spot on it now. It’s also the most painful it’s ever been and the biggest it’s been so I’m REALLY hoping it’s going to magically burst overnight.

if not I may have to bloody take a needle to it. Seasoned bursters, what’s the best way to do it if I go merrily down that not advised route?

That looks pretty close. I would keep going with hot compresses

I’m calling it a night now as I’m shattered but I’ll do a load more compresses in the morning. I’ve put more magnesium on it over night under a dressing so am hopeful that will do any final drawing out.

Are you slathering it in paste, you really need to be generous with it?

I had a weird thing on the back of my neck, it started out as a little spot type thing, the type you try to pick off. I was told to put some cream on it (placenta cream, South East Asia) and it grew and grew, not painful as such, but itchy and annoying, then one day it just burst and all this yellow gunk ran down my back. It left a crater, maybe the width of the small end of a chopstick. It's all healed now. I'm not sure if it's scared as I can't see it. The growing part was very satisfying.

If it pops, or you pop it, you need to document that too!

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor ive been slapping on a fair amount, it’s all gooey and thick and was enough that it kind of dripped down my armpit ! I am so desperate for it to burst now I am sorely considering taking a needle to it but also scared I’ll just spread the infection or anger it if it’s not ready to go! It still feels like a firm little dome and is so painful to touch!

@CourtneeLuv ill do my best. Knowing my luck it will explode at some really awkward moment when I’m out and about

It depends. I've had some that go bang and some that just.. ooze (not envy)

If it's coming to a head then keep going with hot compresses and the paste as they're working.

Exciting update - there was a few green bits on the wound dressing when I just changed it! I’m REALLY hoping this means it’s starting to ooze 🤢 even though it doesn’t look or feel any different.
im slightly obsessed with tracking its progress now, you might make a sporner of me yet!

I'm too scared to pop it, so maybe I'm not quite a sporner after all!!! I've just slapped a load more paste on it after doing a few really hot compresses.
Pray for me people, and you shall be rewarded with all the grossness and glory in picture and maybe even video form

Ooooohh good luck! I had one in an 'intimate area' and it was agony. I touched it after a week and I swear, it squirted across the bathroom.
The relief was immediate.

Can you manoeuvre so that you can soak it in a really hot bath? That might help without hurting it more!

I found it oozing when I took the dressing off so I have to admit I squeezed a bit to help it on its way.
a torrent of pus and blood came out but the boil is still quite firm and dome shaped so there’s obviously more to come.
what do I do now it’s open? Still keep up with the paste and keep it clean and covered?

it’s still painful and uncomfortable but not the same level of pain as before.

I’ve just used a wound wipe thing to clean it and am going to redress it then do some hot compresses later…

the red marks around my arm are because I’m allergic to a lot of tape/adhesive dressing but I’ve had to use it.
