Is this a boil?! Help!

This appeared as a tiny spot after doing a quick shave. I suspect now the razor may have been blunt.
it just keeps getting bigger and more painful and now the area around it is swollen and red too.

I’ve tried magnesium sulphate paste today - is it supposed to make it bigger before it dries it out?

I’ve had little spots before but nothing like this. Is it a boil? Do I try to burst it? I think I might pass out with pain if I try. It looks worse than it is in the picture and I’m desperate to get rid!

HELP

Beautiful! That pus is the same colour green as the ice pop I'm eating 🤣 nothing like a good ooze.

Northernsoullover · 28/07/2022 19:52

Oh wow! That's glorious

Reesewithafork · 28/07/2022 19:56

I have never seen anything quite like it. It’s still so big, I’m guessing that means there’s more to come.
I was kind of hoping it would all come out in one go!
hope I haven’t angered it with the squeezing but I couldn’t resist

O good work OP! And photos! Very impressed!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 28/07/2022 20:01

Lovely descriptions. As you are antibiotics I’d have thought there would be little activity. You might need a second dose to clear it up. It will take a while to heal up once all the oozing has passed.

Reesewithafork · 28/07/2022 20:07

Does the oozing come in dribs and drabs? I’ve still got three days of antibiotics so hoping it does the job!

awwbiscuits · 28/07/2022 20:12

Oooooof op that looks like a painful one!

Ballsaque · 28/07/2022 20:15

Fantastic pictures!

Oblomov22 · 28/07/2022 20:23

Jesus Christ, that PeloAddict one was horrific.

NiqueNique · 28/07/2022 20:23

Goodness. Poor you.

You do get TOP MARKS for photo journaling, though, if that’s any consolation.

Jesus Christ, that PeloAddict one was horrific.

It was not the most fun. I have a pic after the plastic surgery on it too

Luredbyapomegranate · 28/07/2022 20:31

Oh my gosh that must have been bloody awful (yet a bit satisfying at the end).

Don't do anymore pushing unless you can see oozing or pus action - sometimes what's left is just swollen tissue and it will go down slowly with no more drama (sadly.)

I can’t believe people would waste a GPS time on this

heat a needle and pop it fgs! Then some sack on and it’ll be fine

done it loads if times

Interesting opinion!

I had a cyst that size at the start of the year.
I didn’t think too much of it but it was painful and getting quickly bigger so I went to the GP.

After a week of antibiotics, it had got even bigger - not smaller and my GP sent me to A&E.

An overnight stay, intravenous antibiotics, general anaesthetic, surgery the next morning and 3 months of visiting the community nurses to have my open wound packed and dressed, I now have a lovely scar to remember it all by.

Infected cysts can turn into abscesses.
If the infection gets into the blood stream it can become sepsis.

The A&E surgeons I spoke to (several as they kept running out of time and their shifts ended before it was my turn) all said I could not go home and would become very ill if they didn’t remove it.

Watch out for any fever, sweats, shivering OP. Contact GP straight away if you don’t feel well.

EntertainingandFactual · 28/07/2022 20:36

Just seen update!!!!
Mine popped internally- Really good yours has started to ooze!
Lots of TCP on that! Put it on a hot flannel and keep an eye on it!

Reesewithafork · 26/07/2022 18:52

Here you go!
its still throbbing away and growing in size. I’ve been given a week’s course of antibiotics but am desperate for it to burst. Been doing a lot of hot compresses but so far they don’t seem to have made much of a difference.

The Beast, as I have named it, is working to its own schedule.

I'm sorry is it just me or does it have a sad face on it in this picture!

Reesewithafork · 28/07/2022 20:40

@EntertainingandFactual thank you I will do. I’m a bit unsettled that it’s still very big but I’ll TCP and hot compress it and keep an eye. So far I feel like I have a cold but I think that’s DS and nursery we have them constantly. No fever or chills or anything but if it hasn’t gone by the time I finish the antibiotics I’ll go back to the GP.

OP posts:
Reesewithafork · 28/07/2022 20:40

So far I’ve cleaned it with a wound wipe and put sudocrem on it and a dressing as now it’s open I don’t want to get further infection.

before bed I’ll hot compress and TCP it then redress it and hope it goes down a lot overnight.

OP posts:
vipersnest1 · 28/07/2022 20:47

You might find it oozes more overnight now that it's open, OP.
Give them that your skin has been irritated by tape, would it be worth taping a pant liner or a towel over the area for the night? You'd then have something to absorb any leakage overnight and give the irritated skin a chance to settle.

EntertainingandFactual · 28/07/2022 20:50

@Reesewithafork

👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Checklist:

Keep it clean
TCP or similar
Hot compress
Finish antibiotics
Watch out for rashes/ fever
Go back to doctor if no improvement at end of your course of antibiotics.

I’m sure you will be fine because as I said, mine got infected & burst internally which is what made me ill.
I’m a proper sporner but I also know from experience that sometimes treatment is needed. Antibiotics and the like.
Better safe than sorry.

Reesewithafork · 28/07/2022 20:51

@vipersnest1 you are a genius

@EntertainingandFactual thank you!

As much as I’m addicted to the pus and gore, you are right to look after it. As you say, to prevent any further infection x

DobbyTheHouseElk · 28/07/2022 20:56

I had one last summer. It took months of oozing and mild explosions. In the end I admitted defeat and spoke to the GP. He gave me antibiotics over the phone. His words were, if you can see pus it’s infected.

It carried on oozing for a few months and now has keloid scarring. I reckon that, a year later I could squeeze a bit of pus out if I tried.

I stopped enjoying the sporn after a while and dreaded the ooze leaking onto a summer dress or something. I’m glad it’s finally gone.

Reesewithafork · 28/07/2022 22:25

Good lord I hope it doesn’t last months!
it’s still quite big.

last update of the day - I think this might mean the oozing is over which is a bit disappointing as it’s still big and quite firm to touch. I was hoping for another torrent before bed. There was a bit of blood on the pad but that’s it.

I hope I wake up in the morning and there’s either more oozing or it’s gone down - might be selling like another poster said. Still looks pretty angry though although the pain is a lot less now.

Reesewithafork · 28/07/2022 22:34

Spoke too soon! Just had an absolute explosion of bloody gunk. Unfortunately I wasn’t expecting it and where I have open sores from the plaster I think some may have got in them 🙈 so am hoping I don’t get any further infection!
have cleaned it all up with TCP and antiseptic wipes and put more antiseptic cream on all the sore areas. Hoping the fact I’m already in antibiotics will keep any further infection at bay.

im amazed that it’s still as big as it is considering how much has come out of it already!

OP posts:
Sunshinegirl82 · 28/07/2022 22:42

Sounds like you're getting there OP, I'd just keep doing what you're doing. Hot, salty water is your friend!

Now some of the gunk is out the antibiotics might be able to get on top of it a bit more easily.
