Looked over DF's shoulder to see this monster. 10 mins with hottest flannel he can bear has produced nothing. Going to try sterilised needle next. Wish us luck!

But next time can you ask him to forget about the running water, it sort of diluted everything a bit, squeezing into a bit of cotton lint makes it easier to glory in the gunk. Thanks to your fiancé, he's a keeper!
