Looked over DF's shoulder to see this monster. 10 mins with hottest flannel he can bear has produced nothing. Going to try sterilised needle next. Wish us luck!

I AM A DOCTOR AND I LIVE IN SOUTHEND AND A I LOVE SPORN!!!!

Unfortunately I'm not in Southend today or I would be right there doing it Grin they are my favourite thing about my job 😂

halesie · 17/02/2019 13:29

Oh crikey OP, the doctor should have hit that with a scalpel! My DH gets them from time to time - ABs on their own don't touch it, they've had to slice his finger open each time 😳 Hope your DF is all sorted soon.

AuntieGeek · 17/02/2019 13:31

@Westendshits

Get your arse back now. We need you!!

You could post it on YouTube and make a fortune!!! (I might be a little over-excited.)

AuntieGeek · 17/02/2019 13:32

@halesie he was the locum on a Sunday with nothing useful in a borrowed office. He wasn't impressed...

I had one like that, but you could see it throbbing and it was so painful. Was sent to a&e.
They numbed my finger and cut into it and then removed the bottom of my nail, I love sporn but couldn't watch, I heard the nurse go 'oooooh' when they first cut in though 😂

BillywigSting · 17/02/2019 13:34

I remember my dad getting something similar behind his ear once. Was big enough to push his whole ear forward. About the size of a ping pong ball.

My mum (nurse) nicked a couple of syringes from work, drained it and packed him off to get some anti bs. She filled three of them.

It was fascinating to behold.

itbemay1 · 17/02/2019 13:35

Shameless place mark!

Knittedfairies · 17/02/2019 13:37

Bloody hell...

westendshits · 17/02/2019 13:39

Antibiotics will hopefully be enough for most whitlows, but I'm in a&e and we routinely drain any that get into us. But maybe that's just because we find it satisfying? 😂

AuntieGeek · 17/02/2019 13:41

@westendshits Do we need to go to A&E? Or is it safe to do it at home?

TheRealHousewifeofCheshire · 17/02/2019 13:43

Ooh

LaBelleSausage · 17/02/2019 13:47
Shock
AuntieGeek · 17/02/2019 13:49

Right. 3 pharmacies later we're home with antibiotics. Just boiling the kettle to sterilise the needle and thence upstairs to the cinematographical quality bright light of the bathroom.

Exhibit A: soaking the affected parts in warm water.

Try lifting the cuticle away from the nail with a tooth pick or similar. That always drains mine.

picklemepopcorn · 17/02/2019 13:57

The cuticle softens when you soak it, then run something around the cuticle lifting it away from the nail as you go. It will be a bit crusty in places, then it will just ooze out...

TheSassyAssassin · 17/02/2019 13:59

Shhh pickle, we're all rooting for needles and explosions! Grin

(obvs v good advice of course)
