Ever fancied a cruise? Mumsnetters needed for VIP day on Azura, one of P&O Cruises family-friendly ships - all aboard here! NOW CLOSED

Are you tempted by the idea of a cruise but not sure it's right for your family? Why not check it out on dry land for the day and see how you like it...
P&O Cruises have asked to find MNers and their families to attend an exclusive day on Azura, one of their four family friendly cruise ships.

Here's what P&O Cruises say about the ship: "Azura was designed with families in mind, with large children's areas, entertainment and clubs for all ages. Taking a holiday on Azura or one of our other family-friendly ships means that you can have the best of both worlds - fun and companionship for your children whilst stealing some 'me' time for you too."

The event will take place on Saturday 31st August in Southampton and will include:

  • A full day on the ship 10am-2.30pm
  • A tour of the cruise ship
  • Time for your DCs to try the facilities in the children's clubs
  • Full lunch on-board with special surprise guest

Each Mumsnetter will also receive a goodie bag full of treats from the White Company as a thank you and your DCs will also receive a goodie bag of their own.

Those of you who are selected to attend the day will be required to come back to a thread on MN to share your experiences and answer a few questions. We'd also love it if you could take some photos of your day on your smartphone and upload these to the feedback thread so we can see what you got up to.

P&O Cruises would also like those selected to record your day, and will provide MNers with a flipcam and a disposable camera for your DCs to use throughout the day. This footage may be used on the P&O Cruises website, pages on MN, social media channels and possibly in other marketing material so please only sign up if you're happy to do this.

P&O Cruises will pay for your train travel to and from Southampton or there is complimentary parking for all those who will drive to the event, and petrol costs for one car per family will also be covered.

This event is open to all Mumsnetters with at least one child under 16. All Mumsnetters and any child aged 16 or over will have to bring photo ID with them in order to clear standard security procedures.

So if you'd like to attend please sign up here.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

This sounds a fun way to end the school holidays.
:)

Snazzyenjoyingsummer · 31/07/2013 09:21

I am definitely up for this! Smile

Tortoise · 31/07/2013 09:39

I was tempted until it came to photo ID. Only DS1 has a passport, none of the rest of us have any photo ID!

Glitterfairys · 31/07/2013 09:59

We would love this Smile

Forgetfulmog · 31/07/2013 10:18

Good point about the Photo ID - dd is only 10 mo, does she still need to have photo ID??

Forgetfulmog · 31/07/2013 10:26

Well I've signed up for it anyway so fingers crossed! I would love to be selected for this, a real opportunity for us to have a relaxing, pampered family day out especially as we won't get a chance to have a holiday this year. Plus I never get picked for anything Sad

MardyBra · 31/07/2013 10:41

How is 10 -2.30 a full day?

manfalou · 31/07/2013 10:43

Would be loved to this as we're avid cruise fans (DS1's first holiday was a cruise at 10 months old!) but southampton is just to far away... almost 4 hours on a train =(

Enjoy everyone... cruise ships are AMAZING, been on lots but never a P&O, looking forward to seeing responses

3girlsunder3 · 31/07/2013 10:56

I would have loved to take my children for a "spin" on Azura, but haven't applied as I think 4 1/2 hours simply isn't long enough to have a good look round, try out the facilities and have lunch. I can imagine the the morning just being a bit too pressured and so not ideal for young children.

Grin Sounds fantastic!

PinkPepper · 31/07/2013 11:47

Entered, but put we'd go by car then told dp and he said he'd rather go by train :( hope I havn't messed it up now

InTheRedCorner · 31/07/2013 13:06

All signed up Smile

craftynclothy · 31/07/2013 13:14

Would have signed up but Dd2 doesn't have any photo ID. Is there a reason for them insisting the DC have it?

Manchesterhistorygirl · 31/07/2013 13:46

Southamptons just too far, five hours or so for us. Never been on P&O, but we do love their sister company Cunard. Whoever is lucky enough to go, enjoy!

If I may be cheeky enough, is there any chance of a similar event in Liverpool?

zipzap · 31/07/2013 13:59

Psst - MichelleMumsnet - have a look at Q6. On my brower (firefox) the first option is blank. I'm assuming that it's Car as the other options are Train and Undecided yet but it would be nice to know for sure!

zipzap · 31/07/2013 14:03

Psst over here again *MichelleMumsnet" - Q10 is missing its first answer too. I'm guessing it's Yes as the others are No and Don't Know but again it's always nice to know exactly what you are ticking against Grin

MichelleMumsnet · 31/07/2013 14:53

PinkPepper no worries, I'll change your answer on the sign up form!

Everyone aged 16 and over will need to provide photo ID to clear standard security procedures. I've edited the thread to make this clearer.

MichelleMumsnet (or someone else at HQ) can you check mine went through? I completed the questionnaire, only to come back hours later to see the 'click here to complete' final page! Have done it now but hope after the time delay it was accepted.

Snazzyenjoyingsummer · 31/07/2013 15:42

Sorry - can you check mine went through pleeease?

afromom · 31/07/2013 16:04

This sounds like a great day out! I have been thinking about a cruise for ages but wasn't sure what my DS would think so it would be a good way to try it out!

What is acceptable as 'photo ID'? I don't drive or have a passport currently, but do have a national bus pass. Would this (plus maybe birth certificate..?) be acceptable?

Fluffy1234 · 31/07/2013 17:11

I did a similar day on Royal Caribbean Independence of the Seas, it was great fun.
