Ever fancied a cruise? Mumsnetters needed for VIP day on Azura, one of P&O Cruises family-friendly ships - all aboard here! NOW CLOSED

Are you tempted by the idea of a cruise but not sure it's right for your family? Why not check it out on dry land for the day and see how you like it...
P&O Cruises have asked to find MNers and their families to attend an exclusive day on Azura, one of their four family friendly cruise ships.

Here's what P&O Cruises say about the ship: "Azura was designed with families in mind, with large children's areas, entertainment and clubs for all ages. Taking a holiday on Azura or one of our other family-friendly ships means that you can have the best of both worlds - fun and companionship for your children whilst stealing some 'me' time for you too."

The event will take place on Saturday 31st August in Southampton and will include:

  • A full day on the ship 10am-2.30pm

  • A tour of the cruise ship

  • Time for your DCs to try the facilities in the children's clubs

  • Full lunch on-board with special surprise guest

Each Mumsnetter will also receive a goodie bag full of treats from the White Company as a thank you and your DCs will also receive a goodie bag of their own.

Those of you who are selected to attend the day will be required to come back to a thread on MN to share your experiences and answer a few questions. We'd also love it if you could take some photos of your day on your smartphone and upload these to the feedback thread so we can see what you got up to.

P&O Cruises would also like those selected to record your day, and will provide MNers with a flipcam and a disposable camera for your DCs to use throughout the day. This footage may be used on the P&O Cruises website, pages on MN, social media channels and possibly in other marketing material so please only sign up if you're happy to do this.

P&O Cruises will pay for your train travel to and from Southampton or there is complimentary parking for all those who will drive to the event, and petrol costs for one car per family will also be covered.

This event is open to all Mumsnetters with at least one child under 16. All Mumsnetters and any child aged 16 or over will have to bring photo ID with them in order to clear standard security procedures.

So if you'd like to attend please sign up here.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

Signed up. We often go and watch the cruise liners go out and my kids are always talking about what they might be like inside. Won't ever be able to afford to go on a cruise so this would be a great way of them being able to see the inside of a liner in real life.

Me me me! We just got off the QM2 yesterday but we've only ever been on Cunard ships and we need to see what another cruise line can offer as obviously Cunard has a limited itinerary with only 3 ships.

MichelleMumsnet/MNHQ, how many people are P&O Cruises looking for, and when will the lucky invitees find out? :)

So I can accept I have no chance and stop checking the thread until the announcement day.

Gwendoline it's such a great ship though and the staff are so brilliant with children that we keep going back. I agree the itineraries are limited but what's not to love about seven days of doing very little suspended between continents?

As you can tell I'm a wee bit of a fan of Mary's. Grin

MNHQ - we go away this weekend for a fortnight. Will we find out before we go if we've been lucky?

I've not back to backed TA, but we did back to back TA to Norway. Wink Definitely prefer the TA, we're hoping to get another one in this year. I swear I put about 20lbs on. Grin

I hope we get picked! I am already searching for nice family friendly spa hotels in the New Forest, nice to make a weekend of it!
I also hadn't really looked at cruise facilities before, after having a nosey a the website, I am so keen for a good look around.

We will close this thread later on today and the MNers who are chosen will be notified by the end of tomorrow.

tribpot P&O have provided us with the following response in regard to wheelchair accessibility, "Wheelchair users are very welcome to apply to join the ship visit. P&O Cruises ships are all very wheelchair-friendly and we offer accessible cabins for those travelling with us."

In terms of photo ID, P&O said that the photo ID must be issued by the government, ie. a passport, photo driving licence or government-issued photo bus pass. Anything that is not issued by the government will not be accepted.

Bum - Michelle I have no government issued ID (I don't drive & have no passport). I've only got my student ID card & my bus pass was issued by the local bus company, not government.

I'll have to regretfully withdraw Sad

(On the plus side - more places for the rest of you!)

Did you put in a good application TravelinColour? It's like coming out of an exam when you think you've done really well isn't it? Which is why it's so crushing to be told you've failed to be picked amongst the 100,000 MNetters needed to test floor wipes :o

Hang on, having read re-read the OP, I might have dreamt the number 16. Blush. But they must want a good few anyway or it's not much of an event!

Gah, I can't remember if I filled this one in or not. I only live across the water and would love to have a nose around with my lot to see if cruises could be the future for our family holidays.

Anyone from HQ able to let me know if I did or not (brain is melted from WFH with kids on hols Grin)? Pleeeeeeeease!

Despicable if you click on the link to enter it will automatically say thank you, if you get questions then you haven't entered.

Good luck everyone, I really like the sound of this one and it would be my first time meeting other mumsnetters!
