Ever fancied a cruise? Mumsnetters needed for VIP day on Azura, one of P&O Cruises family-friendly ships - all aboard here! NOW CLOSED

Are you tempted by the idea of a cruise but not sure it's right for your family? Why not check it out on dry land for the day and see how you like it...
P&O Cruises have asked to find MNers and their families to attend an exclusive day on Azura, one of their four family friendly cruise ships.

Here's what P&O Cruises say about the ship: "Azura was designed with families in mind, with large children's areas, entertainment and clubs for all ages. Taking a holiday on Azura or one of our other family-friendly ships means that you can have the best of both worlds - fun and companionship for your children whilst stealing some 'me' time for you too."

The event will take place on Saturday 31st August in Southampton and will include:

  • A full day on the ship 10am-2.30pm

  • A tour of the cruise ship

  • Time for your DCs to try the facilities in the children's clubs

  • Full lunch on-board with special surprise guest

Each Mumsnetter will also receive a goodie bag full of treats from the White Company as a thank you and your DCs will also receive a goodie bag of their own.

Those of you who are selected to attend the day will be required to come back to a thread on MN to share your experiences and answer a few questions. We'd also love it if you could take some photos of your day on your smartphone and upload these to the feedback thread so we can see what you got up to.

P&O Cruises would also like those selected to record your day, and will provide MNers with a flipcam and a disposable camera for your DCs to use throughout the day. This footage may be used on the P&O Cruises website, pages on MN, social media channels and possibly in other marketing material so please only sign up if you're happy to do this.

P&O Cruises will pay for your train travel to and from Southampton or there is complimentary parking for all those who will drive to the event, and petrol costs for one car per family will also be covered.

This event is open to all Mumsnetters with at least one child under 16. All Mumsnetters and any child aged 16 or over will have to bring photo ID with them in order to clear standard security procedures.

So if you'd like to attend please sign up here.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

I saw this too late to enter, but would have been seriously interested in having a look around, exactly because we live quite nearby and have considered doing a cruise with the kids, but would really like to have a look around before committing to several days/weeks and seeing how the kids take to the environment. Actually, we would pay to do that, P and O people, if you are interested in this sort of thing as an introduction to potential new customers?

We've not been lucky this time either - just as well really, it would have been an awful lot of driving!

Now I need other ways of convincing DH that going on a cruise could be fun!

Ahem, some cruise lines (Cunard) let you register for ship visits.

Gwendoline, what are you booking? We're thinking of the TA with the stop in Halifax.

I was looking at that too. Coming off the back to back we (there are 11 of us family that go together) think that one way is a bit short. The rest of them are bored with fjords. I didn't do that one as dd2 was too young and the med has been done too.

We prefer TA so it's back to back again or Halifax. Actually, one of the speakers we had gave a decent talk on the Titanic and how Halifax featured so I'd like to visit the museum and cemetery.

I was going to apologise for hijacking the rotten P&O thread but I didn't get picked so ner Wink :o

The assistant cruise director, the bloke form Halifax? We saw him talk on our TA too. We've never been to Halifax and as titanoracs we really need to go. We've done bBelfast, Southampton, Liverpool, Cobh and Cherbourg so it's the last one to tick of the connection list. We did the fjords and it was just too bloody wet, so were not going back there.

We've got family in the USA so I think we'll stay with them and sail home. Hopefully we'll be on the same crossing. The beauty if the QM2 is that she's a destination in herself.

(I hope cunard can see the marketing we're doing on their behalf!)

Am thinking of doing one of those mini cruises with DS ....it's more within my price range and if I book it for next summer then we'll be able to save for it. Been looking over the past few days as DS has expressed the desire to have "a holiday on a boat".

The narrowboats and broads boat holidays seem very expensive.

That's the bloke! :o The real test if a true Cunarder is whether you have seen Bob Arno though! :o

Yes Cunard, we need a bit of recognition here...

Damn. I was going to lie and put that my granny had left me £25,000 and told me to fritter it on cruises but I'd never been and needed persuading :o

Bob Arno, no.

But I raise you Bill Miller, John Maxtone-Graham and Stephen Payne. Wink

We've done 3 cruises on Azura, she's our favourite (although I'd love her to get rid of the Sea Screen and replace it with Ventura's retractable roof). I'm sure you'll all have a lovely day.
PS. You won't be able to tell on your visit, but the kids' clubs on P&O are excellent.

Have heard nothing since the original email. I have messaged Michelle at MNHQ and she has responded to say she will chase it up. Seems odd though. Southampton isn't exactly down the road for us so am a tad nervous that nothing is organised this close to the actual day!
