Trousers that suit a short woman with big thighs - wide leg trousers just don't work for me!

Theimpossiblegirl · 31/03/2024 20:32

I'm 5 ft 4, 48 and a size 12/14.
I need dressing for a graduation this summer. Last graduation I bought a navy polka dot Boden jumpsuit on vinted and had it taken up. Looked and felt great. Can't wear it again or I'll be in the same outfit for both of my daughters' graduations.

I'm firmly stuck in a style rut - I'm still squeezing on ill-fitting skinny jeans because I'm too bloomin' terrified to try anything else & find shopping (online & instore!) so dispiriting! I seem to choose things that really don't suit my height or body shape.
I had an epiphany last summer when I discovered loose-fitting cropped jumpsuits - hurrah! Something I - at last! - felt comfortable/wasn't boiling hot in & got lots of compliments - however can't wear these in winter & went back to horrible old jeans which I'm hoicking up by the belt loops 25 times a day! Please help! :)

I am looking to get my babies ears pierced. Can you recommend anywhere in Edinburgh or Glasgow please ?

Ilostmyhalo · 01/04/2024 11:01

If I wear dresses which I love - i get thigh rub unless I wear tights, what is the best way to wear a dress and feel comfortable ?

youareonlyhereonce · 01/04/2024 19:29

I have been advised to buy a size larger for a better fit- by a personal shopper, but applies for jeans and fitted dresses - what are your thoughts - and do you think this works ?

prawncocktailcrispss · 02/04/2024 08:51

Any tips for layering whites and creams with blouses, scarfs, cardigans and trousers - I think the layered look is flattering, and can take your eyes of your problem areas - but I don't ever seem to look right with layers - which should be longer/shorter/lighter ?

JacCharlton · 02/04/2024 11:32

My fashion dilemma is seeing a dress with a lovely design, and fabric on in a store - when I put it against me it will literally touch the floor - so back on the hanger again - can we have more clothes for the smaller lady ?? Many of my friends have said the same recently (One I bought last year I simply bought and got my kitchen scissors out to take 20cms off the hem,

DinkyDaffodil · 03/04/2024 12:27

What dress style is best for a pear shaped woman with thick legs ? How long, skater or pencil style - I would LOVE to find a flattering summer dress.

TonsleyB · 03/04/2024 12:46

I am very tall and I have more or less given up on finding a pair of smart trousers for work. I don't even know where to look anymore as I find it so disheartening

VerityUnreasonble · 03/04/2024 13:58

Oooh I'm short and picky.

I'm 5ft 2ish (if I stand up really straight) size 12ish. I usually like to wear dresses, I prefer ankle length, you can imagine how easy this is to find - I often go for "midaxi" which is actually maxi on me but does sometimes mean the cut is off. Petite is fine but selection is more limited. Long sleeves. I like wrap or empire line. Happy with quite fitted but also love a big swirly skirt. I often like things that are a bit unusual, wear quite a lot of bright yellow, aubergine, magenta, gold. I don't mind prints / florals although probably not ditsy / animal prints. One of my favourite dresses is a yellow flower print Boden dress (it has long sleeves and pockets and always gets compliments! www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/notch-neck-cotton-maxi-dress/sty-w0778 ).

Setting out my picky stall, I'm presenting at a national conference and need something to wear! I'm happy enough to look more like "me" than "traditional conference attire" (they knew who they were getting!) but I'd love suggestions for something new to feel confident in.

clakster14 · 03/04/2024 14:22

Since loosing 7 stone I find it hard still to see my new self.I love Bodens summer dresses but feel nervous trying anything to fitting

Asuwere · 05/04/2024 00:38

How do you cover a post-child (and chocolate!) belly without making yourself look pregnant?

Montydoo · 08/04/2024 09:13

Which style of dress would you think is most flattering for the chubby lady on her 50's ?

ashiningbeaconinspace · 08/04/2024 09:15

Mid 60's and heavier than I'd like! Both my children getting married this summer. I don't do dresses or heels.... No idea what to wear.

jacqui5366 · 08/04/2024 10:17

I am going back to work in the office part time after WFH for 4 years - my wardrobe has adapted to WFH - casual leggings etc, and less formal fitted jackets skirts and blouses - I would like some 'office' attire, but not a clue what the new office staff are wearing - the formal suit and kitten heels is no longer something I would want to wear - what would you suggest from Boden ??

LittleDeeAndME · 10/04/2024 15:11

What dress would you say would be most flattering for a top heavy woman ? Large breasts and narrow hips - ones I try need to be 2 sizes larger for the top half but look too baggy around my bottom ? Can you show me some examples of ones I can look out for ? Tia

D20 · 10/04/2024 16:40

My dilemma is that I was the buy much more sustainable clothes but in line with high street fashions and those retailers are often poles apart.

LegalAlienWooHoo · 10/04/2024 22:39

How do you find jeans that aren't too tight but also don't keep falling down after a couple of wears?

DianaTaverner · 11/04/2024 11:03

blackforesthotchoc · 31/03/2024 20:27

Trousers that suit a short woman with big thighs - wide leg trousers just don't work for me!

Yes this is my problem. I'm 5'4" (so not short short, but on the shorter side) and very pear shaped.

Skinny stretch trousers make me look like a parsnip. Slim tailored trousers look appalling. Wide legged trousers look like a clown.

DenDenDenise · 11/04/2024 15:28

I love a maxi dress - but being 5 2 they make me look even shorter - or am I just picking the wrong style or colour ? any tips for summer please ?

Fisu · 11/04/2024 23:21

I’ve completely lost myself since covid, I live in leggings & tops no matter where I am or what I’m doing, I need to find myself again & figure out what suits me now & is age appropriate. I’m 5 foot 5, size 8, aged 43.
Any help would be gratefully received 🤞

How do you know what to wear to the office when 99% of the time you WFH in leggings and a hoodie? You want to look like you know what's on trend , don't want to wear office wear from 2008 but also don't want to buy a whole new bunch of outfits that will never get worn.

littlecottonbud · 14/04/2024 17:13

What would you class as 'the wardrobe staples' which I can mix and match - I don't have a large wardrobe but would like 5 or 6 new items which I can play around with to give me a few looks. Thanks

chickenpotnoodle · 20/04/2024 15:48

I have just had a massive wardrobe clearance - I have so many elasticated skirts and tops and want to dress more sophisticated, love layers with scarfs and pastels, but want to have a wardrobe for all year around - so pastels won't be the usual winter colour - any advice ?
