To tie in with their new #FortheSpirited campaign, Silent Pool Gin is on a quest to unearth the UK’s most spirited characters – and the search starts right here. For two months, the award-winning distillers will be celebrating the spirit of Mumsnet by getting you to nominate the users who you think show the most – well – spirit. They'll be giving one bottle of gin per week to a winning Mumsnet user. In addition, if your nominee wins, you'll also receive a shopping voucher worth £30..

Here’s what Silent Pool Gin have to say:
“For the spirited. Three small words that capture the essence of Silent Pool Gin. It represents our independent mindset and our uncompromising commitment to producing a gin with a refreshingly individual character.

For the spirited is about following your own path. Embracing life and living for the best things it has to offer. It’s about doing something kind, inspiring, creative, different. Could be finally handing in your notice, booking that round-the-world trip, starting that new Japanese course or even just deciding to make your very first post on AIBU.

Whatever your version of ‘spirited' is, we applaud you. However, applause only gets you so far, so to officially recognise the wonderful achievements of the Mumsnet community, we are launching the Silent Pool Gin For the Spirited award. Each week, one lucky Mumsnet member will be recognised as a kindred spirit and will win one bottle of Silent Pool Gin.

Also we’d love to hear your spirited stories so please tag us in at #forthespirited @silentpoolgin

There's no such thing as a best Mumsnet user but you probably have your favourite(s). Is there someone: Whose posts you always read? Who brightens your days and whose views keep you glued to the screen? Who has given you priceless advice, yet you wouldn't know from Adam in real life?

Every week for two months, Silent Pool will be giving the #FortheSpirited award to one lucky Mumsnet user – with the prize of a bottle of gin. Simply nominate your favourite Mumsnet user on the discussion thread and they'll be in with a chance of winning. In turn, if your nominee wins, you'll also receive a £30 voucher. Win, win (gin) Gin.

Thanks and good luck!

MNHQ

[EDITED BY MNHQ TO INCLUDE FURTHER DETAILS ABOUT THE DESPATCH OF PRIZES]

Terms and conditions of prize draw:
Activity specific T&Cs: Mumsnet will run a random prize draw once per week. The nominees within the winning entries will be contacted via email or PM to inform them of the win, and to ask if they would like to receive the prize. A non-alcoholic prize will also be available if desired. To receive an alcoholic prize, nominees will need to provide a copy of photographic ID to Mumsnet (eg a photograph of a passport or driving licence), as well as a physical name and address for the prize to be dispatched to. The name and address will be shared with Silent Pool Gin, with the user's permission. Mumsnet will dispose of this information within one week of users' receipt of the prize. Posters of the winning entries will be emailed by Mumsnet to inform them of the win, and to give them the opportunity to choose the voucher they would like. Their name and email address, with the user's permission, will be shared with Mumsnet's voucher fulfilment company for the purposes of ordering the voucher. Voucher winner's details will be retained for audit purposes. Winner's details will be used for the purpose of the prize draw and prize delivery only, and not for any other marketing purpose. Standard Mumsnet T&Cs can be found here.

Oh, and anyone who are active on the woolly hugs threads.

00100001 · 14/07/2019 12:17

It's a who's your favourite MNer thread. Not a 'thank you' thread... Or any way we'd like to spin it.

It literally says nominate "your favourite Mumsnet user" in the title!

The problem people are having is that MN will delete the same thread saying it's not in the spirit and it always goes Peter shaped.... But now they're endorsing the exact same thing Confused

It just feels hypocritical

00100001 · 14/07/2019 12:17

Pear shaped 🍐

toriap2 · 14/07/2019 12:19

I nominate the woolly hugs legends Knotty and Pistey. They do so much for other people and always show kindness and love. Plus they really deserve gin.

00100001 · 14/07/2019 12:19

Plus... This thread hasn't gone the way they've expected no doubt....which is exactly why they don't like "favourite" threads in the first place!

This thread is the embodiment of why this thread (and now competition) shouldn't exist. It proves that MNHQ are absolutely correct is deleting these threads...

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 14/07/2019 13:04

Seconding @datun for her tireless work on women's rights. She's one of many but I had to pick a single person!

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 14/07/2019 13:10

I agree with you binary especially after reading the spirited and kindred spirit fuckery in italics from the sponsors but nonetheless the majority of people on here have nominated people as a thank you for what they have done as opposed to 'oh what a character!' they are.
That has to count for something surely.
I look at the 8 listed (am a stats nerd and was curious as to the tally) and even though, touch wood, I have not needed their input (yet) although I may have dropped by stately homes this morning I don't really see it as a love-in or a Sparticus statement or anything other than those 8 people have reached others/given them something be it emotional support, practical support or a place to vent.
That's not so divisive. Put it this way, if it was something I loved Chocolate I still would not be put out personally for not being up for it, given I contribute feck all apart from my natural sparkling wit obvs

The italics/initial OP is cringe though.

differentnameforthis · 14/07/2019 13:15

I don't have a favourite MNer, I do not know anyone here well enough to class them as a favourite. I find that at times I can strongly agree with someone, only to find myself strongly disagreeing with the same person on a different thread, because it depends on the content of the threads.

I would like to recognise those who spend time helping others, spending hours reaching out, "sitting" with someone, giving advice, "hand holding" in their time of need. Those who try to change things that affect us, and will affect our children. Those who fight tirelessly for the rights of women. Those who keep coming back and explaining why they affect us and how. Those who share their experience and knowledge, who "give away" free advice from the field they specialise in.

You say there is no such thing as "a best MN user" yet you are encouraging just that.

@Bignicetree - Popularity contest rewarded with a bottle of gin on a website where struggles with alcohol are a recurring and prominent theme?

Then there's that ^^

BeyondDangerousTshirts · 14/07/2019 13:25

What were all the deleted messages?! I usually avoid these threads so have no idea what people could possibly argue about!

Just a thought (thinking of the Gin smiley...) can we posthumously nominate zombie? :(

differentnameforthis · 14/07/2019 13:26

@RageAgainstTheVendingMachine - then your 8 vouchers - for the love of God reward your nightwatch staff if they are unpaid/unrewarded

They should be rewarded separately, surely? Anywhere I have worked/volunteered at employees/volunteers have always been automatically excluded from participating in, and "winning" anything, as it shows favoritism and is not exactly impartial.

Watersnail · 14/07/2019 13:41

Sparkly no catch, just wanted to pick a less obvious "winner" than the usual few Grin

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 14/07/2019 13:42

Fair point, the night crew were next in line with number of votes but if counted as 'employees' you award your Gin to the eight above with the biggest nomination count, mainly for the reasons differentname gave then you give your vouchers out randomly to four posters and their nominees as per usual competitions on here.
beyond some nominations were disingenuous - either voting for oneself (I still think that's quite funny - does that mean you get Gin and a voucher...genius!) or voting with sarcasm.
Am amazed noone's voted for mitmoo yet.
And this is why we can't have nice things Wink

louise5754 · 14/07/2019 13:47

I'd like to know what the deleted threads said.

I've absolutely no idea who I would vote for. I look at the comments not usernames.

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 14/07/2019 13:50

I might be very mistaken (it happens) but I haven't ever seen Datun and the other 7 actually 'win' anything and I've been on here donkeys years. They get nods on similar promptly banned threads but have never had official recognition from mnhq. AnyFucker might have won Xmas comp once but AnyFuckerForAMincePie is inspired. I waste far too much fucking time on here. I need to ban myself.

tattyheadsmum · 14/07/2019 13:58

@awesmum for me too.

SparklyMagpie · 14/07/2019 13:58

@Watersnail that's very kind of you !! Here's hoping we can clink our glasses Grin

EmpressLesbianInChair · 14/07/2019 14:54

It does seem very unfair that anyone who’s being supportive in the dry threads is automatically excluded from nomination.

PreparingForDisappointment · 14/07/2019 15:52

For the spirited is about following your own path. Embracing life and living for the best things it has to offer. It’s about doing something brave, kind, inspiring, creative, different. Could be finally handing in your notice, booking that round-the-world trip, starting that new Japanese course or even just plucking up the courage to make your very first post on AIBU.

How on earth are those cliches linked to drinking gin? Drinking alcohol isn't a way to start a whole new, exciting life, boost your confidence or become more creative, as that marketing paragraph suggests, and any 'courage' it gives is false and temporary.

This is an irresponsible way to market alcohol.

EmpressLesbianInChair · 14/07/2019 16:18

It’s about doing something brave, kind, inspiring, creative, different.

Like fighting for women’s sex-based rights & making FWR internationally famous?

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 14/07/2019 16:25

I await with anticipation the most probably patronising nonsense that HQ will come out with when and if they bother to respond

KurriKurri · 14/07/2019 16:39

What a bizarre competition - I thought popularity contests were definitely 'not in the spirit'
What next - a bottle of whisky to the person who can be most hateful about Meghan Markle?
Prosecco heading the way of the best troll hunter ?

Hypocritical madness.
No doubt this will be deleted for not sucking up to a gin company.

SoupDragon · 14/07/2019 16:42

There won't be any prizes left as MNHQ will have drunk them all.

RandomNameChange415 · 14/07/2019 16:46

There were MN Awards at the end of last year. The MNHQ suggested categories were roundly ignored in the end because people refused to go along with them but as I recall we eventually ended up with a pretty solid list, albeit slightly edited to sand off the more controversial jagged edges. I’ll see if I can find it.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 14/07/2019 16:55

I don't recognise most of the nominees mentioned, I obviously don't go on those topics or perhaps I read comments rather than names?
Anyway, shit idea all round MN.

BeyondDangerousTshirts · 14/07/2019 16:56

Like fighting for women’s sex-based rights & making FWR internationally famous?

I suppose that we should probably nominate Posie for that. Oh no, wait - another banned poster! Halo
