To tie in with their new #FortheSpirited campaign, Silent Pool Gin is on a quest to unearth the UK’s most spirited characters – and the search starts right here. For two months, the award-winning distillers will be celebrating the spirit of Mumsnet by getting you to nominate the users who you think show the most – well – spirit. They'll be giving one bottle of gin per week to a winning Mumsnet user. In addition, if your nominee wins, you'll also receive a shopping voucher worth £30..

Here’s what Silent Pool Gin have to say:
“For the spirited. Three small words that capture the essence of Silent Pool Gin. It represents our independent mindset and our uncompromising commitment to producing a gin with a refreshingly individual character.

For the spirited is about following your own path. Embracing life and living for the best things it has to offer. It’s about doing something kind, inspiring, creative, different. Could be finally handing in your notice, booking that round-the-world trip, starting that new Japanese course or even just deciding to make your very first post on AIBU.

Whatever your version of ‘spirited' is, we applaud you. However, applause only gets you so far, so to officially recognise the wonderful achievements of the Mumsnet community, we are launching the Silent Pool Gin For the Spirited award. Each week, one lucky Mumsnet member will be recognised as a kindred spirit and will win one bottle of Silent Pool Gin.

Also we’d love to hear your spirited stories so please tag us in at #forthespirited @silentpoolgin

There's no such thing as a best Mumsnet user but you probably have your favourite(s). Is there someone: Whose posts you always read? Who brightens your days and whose views keep you glued to the screen? Who has given you priceless advice, yet you wouldn't know from Adam in real life?

Every week for two months, Silent Pool will be giving the #FortheSpirited award to one lucky Mumsnet user – with the prize of a bottle of gin. Simply nominate your favourite Mumsnet user on the discussion thread and they'll be in with a chance of winning. In turn, if your nominee wins, you'll also receive a £30 voucher. Win, win (gin) Gin.

Thanks and good luck!

[EDITED BY MNHQ TO INCLUDE FURTHER DETAILS ABOUT THE DESPATCH OF PRIZES]

Terms and conditions of prize draw:
Activity specific T&Cs: Mumsnet will run a random prize draw once per week. The nominees within the winning entries will be contacted via email or PM to inform them of the win, and to ask if they would like to receive the prize. A non-alcoholic prize will also be available if desired. To receive an alcoholic prize, nominees will need to provide a copy of photographic ID to Mumsnet (eg a photograph of a passport or driving licence), as well as a physical name and address for the prize to be dispatched to. The name and address will be shared with Silent Pool Gin, with the user's permission. Mumsnet will dispose of this information within one week of users' receipt of the prize. Posters of the winning entries will be emailed by Mumsnet to inform them of the win, and to give them the opportunity to choose the voucher they would like. Their name and email address, with the user's permission, will be shared with Mumsnet's voucher fulfilment company for the purposes of ordering the voucher. Voucher winner's details will be retained for audit purposes. Winner's details will be used for the purpose of the prize draw and prize delivery only, and not for any other marketing purpose. Standard Mumsnet T&Cs can be found here.

I don't see this thread as a popularity contest.
However I think the title is a bit Hmm
Wouldn't this be better retitled as nominate the MNetter who gives you the most useful advice/makes you happy etc.
Or simply just nominate a MNetter who you think deserves a bottle of gin because......

SparklyMagpie · 14/07/2019 01:36

I actually also want to nominate @fissionchips for her threads and how she knows what she likes and she'll bloody well stick to it

GrinGin

SparklyMagpie · 14/07/2019 01:39

Apologies I meant @FissionChips

BringMeAGinandTonic · 14/07/2019 02:42

Awesmum, because she is a major inspiration to me (as well as others by the looks of it) and she deserves nice things.

SoupDragon · 14/07/2019 08:22

I don't see this thread as a popularity contest.

How is it not a popularity contest?

dawnofthedred · 14/07/2019 08:32

Where have all these nominations for Beertricks come from out of the blue? She hasn't posted under that name for about 5 years. Not very many of the posts on this thread are genuine. Perhaps write it off as a slightly embarrassing mistake hq and pretend it never happened?

RandomNameChange415 · 14/07/2019 08:45

Not only is Beertricks not posting any more, all her past posts have been erased at her own request.

GinUnicorn · 14/07/2019 08:52

I’d nominate @Graphista for the the amount of information she kindly contributes and interesting posts.

I’d also nominate @Mummyoflittledragon generally being a great contributor.

However I really feel we should have been able to privately submit. I don’t love the popularity contest feel.

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 14/07/2019 09:03

I also wish to nominate ASDistress because another nominee's thread (or rather the armchair medics on it) have really upset her this morning and no-one needs disablist shit.
Thank you.
(I have 4 nominees now. Please see previous posts. Gin to Bof, and 10 pound voucher to Zoo, Cazz and ASDistress).
That's it now, no more nominations or it'll water down the prize some more.
Cheers x

MarthasGinYard · 14/07/2019 09:14

@LucindaE

I don't know how she does it

Amazing woman Thanks

TheRedBarrows · 14/07/2019 09:21

prh47bridge for tireless calm advice on the legality of schools admissions issues and helping numerous MN behind the scenes to challenge errant decisions.

A MNer who does deserve thanks.

But I do it with a clothes peg on my nose at the Hmm of this alcohol fuelled popularity contest!

meercat23 · 14/07/2019 09:27

TwitterQueen1. Despite going through the most awful time herself she has been there to offer support, advice and friendship to all of us on the thread for those going through Cancer.

There are lots of others on that thread that would easily qualify including iVampire , Brassica and a whole host of others. But TQ as iVampire said earlier has been there for us during a time when some very much loved and valued thread members have been lost to this awful disease. Always practical. Always cheerful. Always supportive.

Badabingbadabum · 14/07/2019 09:31

@anyfucker. But as she has loads of mentions I would also like to suggest *eatshitderrick - or whatever name she posts under now.

They should win the alcohol popularity contest!

Enclume · 14/07/2019 09:48

@tinselangel needs gin.

I don't think anyone else needs gin as much.

She would be a stellar advertisement for your gin there.

Give the woman gin.

SoupDragon · 14/07/2019 09:52

What is interesting about this thread is how i agree with some nominations and reasoning and things "fuck no!" about others. I find it interesting how different people's perceptions can be.

ChrisAndJonty · 14/07/2019 09:54

I nominate AtillaTheMeerkat as she always gives very insightful and wise advice.

SouthWestmom · 14/07/2019 10:27

I'm adding my voice to the 'this is a bad idea' posters because:

Some of us have been here years but feel invisible and this reinforces it

Coming here can be an escape where this type of thing shouldn't matter - we can all just chat with anyone who is interested in a similar subject

Lots of people are quite vulnerable here - you can tell from the posts - and this is not kind to reinforce a lack of 'fitting in' or 'being noticed'

It's totally arbitrary - depends on someone recognising any contribution you make and nominating you

It's always been banned or deleted in the past for good reason

Actually I really liked not having to worry about being 'liked' on here and now I do because I'm human

TheSteveMilliband · 14/07/2019 10:40

@datun for her knowledge, wisdom and clarity

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 14/07/2019 10:44

I remember you noeuf Smile
Have you never won an easter egg name comp with that name - sacrilege! i'vehadenoeuf might do it Wink
In days of old there would have been a list with half a dozen names on that were known because they were ubiquitous. Then catcalls of clique (quiche), royalty etc
In fairness, on this thread, there are many nominees being nominated for the right reasons - namely for the help and advice they give freely to others, for being a source of information, for providing a service or support or for overcoming adversity.
The nominations 'because I luffs her' lols etc are few and far between. Apart from the nominations for posters who are no longer on here, those without any reason given (fair dos but would be nice to know why they are being recognized) and the quite frankly wtf were you thinking nomination for fissionchips, then it's all good. Just a shame you don't have more than 8 prizes. Actually - if nominators all gave up their vouchers, you'd have 16. Put a time limit on the thread, put all the names listed apart from ironic nominations although I think they've been deleted, into your hat and let the sponsors draw 16 announced at once rather than weekly. Job's a good 'un.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 14/07/2019 10:47

See I always thought mumsnet did everything in its power to rail against the "mumsnet royalty" "popular posters" trope
Clearly anyone can be bought if there's enough noughts on the cheque
Cracking to drop this one on the weekend and then tumbleweed from HQ
And what @noeuf said with bells on.

Whereismyfigleaf · 14/07/2019 11:39

I so regret posting, what a nasty thread this turned out to be.

ChristmasFluff · 14/07/2019 11:44

I nominate @AttilaTheMeerkat: always sensible advice in a measured tone.

00100001 · 14/07/2019 11:46

"I so regret posting, what a nasty thread this turned out to be."

Well maybe MNHQ should have considered the hypocrisy of this competition.
Perhaps considered that running it as a "who's your favourite MNer" thread to give people gin, may have been a bit ... controversial

SoupDragon · 14/07/2019 11:49

tumbleweed from HQ

Except to delete stuff which means they're reading.

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 14/07/2019 11:56

Or if you are looking at it based on number of nominations and it really is a thank you thread at the end of the day, your 8 xGin would go to
Datun - feminist advocate
AnyFucker - relationship advice
Twitterqueen - cancer support
PigletJohn - plumbing advice
Knotty - woolly hugs
Pistey - woolly hugs
RedToothbrush - politics debate coordination
AttilaTheMeerkat - toxic relatives support

Those are based on the numbers (note that I have no skin in the game and my four nominees aren't among those I just listed)

then your 8 vouchers - for the love of God reward your nightwatch staff if they are unpaid/unrewarded
whatever you have left over pick at random

Sorted! Smile
