Mumsnet users share their tips for easy evenings with Sky Store and The Incredibles

NOW CLOSED

Evenings can sometimes feel like they’re over before they’ve even begun. With this in mind, Sky Store would like to hear your tips for making your evenings easy - so that you still have the time to sit down as a family and enjoy a good movie night in together.

Here’s what Sky Store has to say: “This week we are celebrating the release of the most anticipated animated sequel of all time – Disney/Pixar’s Incredibles 2 in Sky Store, so you can create your perfect movie night in with your family tonight.

With Sky Store evenings are incredibly easy! You can download this family favourite straight to your TV at the touch of a button, so it’s ready to watch as soon as the kids get home.”

What tips do you have for an easy evening? Maybe you meal prep so you spend less time on cooking? Do you have tips for getting your children ready for bed in record time? Have you discovered the secret to making the kids tidy up after themselves? Perhaps you watch new films at home instead of taking a trip to the cinema?

All who post below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

we love to get the duvet and pillows off all of our beds and put them on the lounge floor and watch movies, especially with the dark nights. WE love to get buffet food so that we can graze as we like and get naughty nibbles like choc and crisps too

Pinktilgate · 26/11/2018 00:52

Have my husband and son all chip in and help prepare dinner and clear away dishes etc when we are done :)

tubbyj · 26/11/2018 01:00

Easy tea like piza and movie on tv to pacify all

JayJay1874 · 26/11/2018 02:06

Teamwork. Dad makes dinner. Planned in advance and already prepped.

cluckyhen · 26/11/2018 10:31

I get everyone to help out with the chores and dinner and we make sure that everything if good to go for morning too so there is no mad rush! We also have a food plan so we don;t spent ages deciding on what to cook.

Doodygirl2009 · 26/11/2018 10:37

Get everything you need done in the morning, put food in the slow cooker to tea

We tend to cook large joints of meat or chicken or a large pan of stew to last a couple of days when we know we are going to be busy at certain times. It makes it a lot easier when you come home after a busy day to prepare meals.

Mariobug25 · 26/11/2018 11:26

Definitely do dinner in the slow cooker! Easy peas and saves so much time in the evenings. Also do all the school uniform etc ironing at the weekend for the week ahead :)

I try and plan mine - so that we can have a nutritious meal and don't reach for convenience food.

Pjs and bath earlier on in the evening so it's not part of the bed time routine. Slow cooker for meals. Stories and cuddles at bed time help to relax everyone xx

yorkie18 · 26/11/2018 21:32

Slow cookers are life! Being able to prepare dinner in advance and have in ready for all of our different meal times is just perfect for an easy evening!

AngelDog · 26/11/2018 21:52

Our evenings work as they almost always follow the same routine: eat dinner, DH washes up while the children finish eating (and maybe finish tidying), DH reads with the youngest, I then put him to bed while DH reads with the eldest, then I put the eldest to bed. We don't really do things like sitting down together for a movie, because our 'family time' tends to happen during the daytime when we're not feeling any pressure from looming dinner/bedtime.

pinkspideruk · 26/11/2018 21:59

Like others my slow cooker is my saver in the evening - put it on in the morning before work and have a healthy hot meal waiting for when I get home.

I also meal prep the items for the slow cooker for the week on the weekend and make extra of everything to portion out and freeze so we always have 'ready' meals as well

grannybiker · 26/11/2018 22:00

Slow cooker works for pasta sauces as well as stews ;)
All meals are minimal preparation or prepare in advance. Really don't want to be standing in the kitchen at the end of a long day. Much rather be spending time with family.

kelliec · 26/11/2018 22:35

Plan dinners in advance

Blondie1982 · 26/11/2018 22:50

A relaxed atmosphere and everyone’s favourite food

PhilTB54 · 27/11/2018 00:30

Spa bol from freezer garlic bread in front of tv item to be watched picked out of a bowl from all put in.

piggypoo · 27/11/2018 07:33

I prepare some pizzas - home made, and then pop them in the oven, they're ready in 20 minutes, we pop some popcorn, close the curtains, and snuggle up in our blankets to watch a family movie together, bliss!

caygijan · 27/11/2018 07:41

I use my slow cooker and frozen veg so our tea is ready in minutes once everyone has eaten they're in a better mood!

lorrainej162 · 27/11/2018 07:52

Organisation is key. I use the slow cooker a few times a week, and pre prepared meals on the other evenings.

noynoyavery · 27/11/2018 08:21

Also slow cooker and batch meal preperation, I put washing on the night before and wash up (No dishwasher here) , meal plan also helps. Then at 9 I stop whatever it is I am doing and thats it adult time!

molly57 · 27/11/2018 09:27

Prepare everything during the day so you can just eat, wash up and relax.

natalielara · 27/11/2018 09:58

I love using the slow cooker - coming home to a cooked meal and a gorgeous smelling house is fabulous

bex552 · 27/11/2018 10:08

Prep dinner during the day if you can and have a set routine. Snack, homework, dinner, bath, bed :)

Dessallara · 27/11/2018 12:25

The only way for me to cook tea is to put a film on for my girls :)
