Mumsnet users share their tips for easy evenings with Sky Store and The Incredibles

NOW CLOSED

Evenings can sometimes feel like they’re over before they’ve even begun. With this in mind, Sky Store would like to hear your tips for making your evenings easy - so that you still have the time to sit down as a family and enjoy a good movie night in together.

Here’s what Sky Store has to say: “This week we are celebrating the release of the most anticipated animated sequel of all time – Disney/Pixar’s Incredibles 2 in Sky Store, so you can create your perfect movie night in with your family tonight.

With Sky Store evenings are incredibly easy! You can download this family favourite straight to your TV at the touch of a button, so it’s ready to watch as soon as the kids get home.”

What tips do you have for an easy evening? Maybe you meal prep so you spend less time on cooking? Do you have tips for getting your children ready for bed in record time? Have you discovered the secret to making the kids tidy up after themselves? Perhaps you watch new films at home instead of taking a trip to the cinema?

All who post below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

We don't do organised in my home lol. We wait and see where the day has taken us!

We like our walks up the woods, which can sometimes tire the kids out so much they don't want to watch a film or do anything with us, they want to go and play with their toys upstairs, but once in a blue moon we will have a family day, get a film on, grab the junk food, and just mong on front of the telly!

Its always more special now my teens are working and out with their friends all the time when it does happen. x

Im not due until january but Im hoping it will be the same as when my niece and nephew come and stay for the school holidays - routine , dinner , bath , family time bed time. The people in the flat under me unfortunatly have no routine at all a year and a half in amd there is crying and screaming going on until 11.30 every evening - I'm just hoping they dont set a trend for my baby.

Routine. It's always been the same, so if it works stick to it!

Drink wine. Chilled rosé in the summer evenings and mulled wine in the winter evenings. Works for me! hic

Definitely meal prepping for weekdays, saves so much time when coming home after work.

Babysitters!

Slow cooker. Makes life so much easier!

Smellophant87 · 27/11/2018 22:05

Make a meal plan and do a big shop at the weekend!

phillw · 27/11/2018 23:58

Batch cook at the weekend and freeze portions in containers. Not only do they stack in the freezer easier, it's simple to get exactly the amount you need.

SillyMoomin · 28/11/2018 09:57

Always try and stick to a routine - then the dc know whats happening and you know whats happening.

Keep a few home made dinners such as curries or fish pies that you've batch cooked in the freezer at all time so you've always got "instant" dinner if you need it

If in doubt, remember that tomorrow is another day!

Batch cooking, preparing bags for hobbies and classes on a Sunday so everything is ready, preparation and gin!

I tend to use a slow cooker as it cooks for you while you can get on with your day. By the time it is evening time, the meals are ready for eating. Also we tend to freeze leftovers and use them whenever we need them for dinner which takes out the stress of cooking and prepping.

I usually do a menu for the week based on what is going out of date soonest.

Go easy on yourself. There's enough in our busy lives to feel stressed and guilty about. For us, when the kids were very little and we were both working, something just had to give and for us it was cooking. Microwave meals from time to time are totally fine. Sometimes the best meal you can have is one that you didn't have to make.

SilverDoe · 02/12/2018 15:51

I’m not great at meal prepping but I have a stock of quick dinner recipes that everyone enjoys and that the baby can also eat. Then everyone can relax with a movie that both kids and adults enjoy - yes it’s usually a Disney one! So even simple and minimum effort evenings after a busy day can feel like you’re getting the most out of it.

Batch cooking so dinner is quick and easy to prepare

HannahLI · 11/12/2018 21:04

For me stress free is prepping meals ahead of time and its like catching the wave at the right time. I want to be ready with the food before they get overcome with tiredness and so I want to have to ready to go. Bath time is a chilled time and then we always look forward to the stories. Sometimes I will let them watch a movie instead and that is a great motivator to get them into pj's quickly. Looking forward to the book we are sharing is also a great motivator.
