Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

I am so bloody angry that yet again mn hq has let a attack on a sn poster stand.
they seem to have a very weird veiw of sn. People can post and talk about murdering a child with sn and it is allowed to stay as it is their opinion!! yet if they were talking about murdering due to race it would be gone. and if you dare to mention you have a brain damaged child you are slated.

I have had enough. I love mn and do not want to flounce. so will just stay away from posting about dd.

it was an old thread in tv adicts. I used it as one of the many examples I could have used.

Re the education thing.

I have no problem 'educating' others (although ime - and I think the Huntingdon's thread showed this nicely) however often you lead a horse to water you can't make it drink.

Furthermore people DO think that people with LD's are vegetables and that is never going to change. I'd far rather ds1 was in an understanding and educated environment than having to be somewhere because he's vaguely educating people. It was something that was said a lot when he was in mainstream 'oh its so good for the other children'. Yes, but bloody awful for him. I'm not even convinced that just having people around is educational. When I bumped into a child from his class a year or so after he left the boy didn't even remember him (ds1 wasn't allowed near the children than often).

"Furthermore people DO think that people with LD's are vegetables"
Yurt I've read blog posts from somebody who's own son is severely disabled making comments like that .

expatinscotland · 26/07/2008 18:39

With my child, you would not know she has a SN by looking at her.

But she does have some serious delays and learning challenges.

And like yurt, I'm not interested in using my daughter as a social experiment to broaden peoples' minds because IME it won't change anyone's opinions of SN/disability/LD/mental or degenerative illness.

You start to sort of run out of patience after a while and you think, 'Well, that's your damn problem if you're narrow-minded. Hope your life goes as swimmingly as it always has. Bye now!'

nikos · 26/07/2008 18:43

Can anyone do a link to the thread? Can't find it.

ReallyTired · 26/07/2008 19:00

I actually came on here to see if there is any sign of Riven. Sadly the other thread seemed to get swamped with nasty posters. Its sad as I could suggest ways of a 15 year old getting work experience in mathematical modelling.

Was it this thread that upset you.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/1600/563111?pg=2

If so, I am really sorry if I offended you.

The point I was trying to make on the thread was that families faced with a child in neo natal intensive care need support, rather than to be told they are not Christian for considering letting nature take its course.

I strongly disagree with murdering disabled children. I would disagree with a life support machine being turned off purely just because a child is disabled. However I would understand parents agreeing to doctors turning off a life support machine as the only way to stop their baby's uncontrollable pain.

2shoes · 26/07/2008 19:15

realytired. no the posts I were talking about was a poster talking about ending the life of a disabled child that she had met breifly as she felt he ahd no quality of life. imo that is murder.
I do hope riven comes back as she is someone who I respect(even if we don't always agree) hopefully she is just out enjoying the sunshine.

just followed your link, never been in that topic. poor family.

OP posts:
MannyMoeAndJack · 26/07/2008 19:27

I have read the thread in question and some of the posts were very spiteful and totally unnecessary. I hope riven comes back soon and is able to ignore the awful comments and instead take up some of the great offers of help for finding her ds a WE position.

2shoes, I would continue posting as normal if I were you, no good being worried about what posters think such as those on the aforementioned thread. You merely appease those other posters if you sanitise your posts.

2shoes · 26/07/2008 19:31

tbh
I have a beautiful dd. I have got to the point where I don't want to mention her on here as i DODNOT WNAT PEOPLE LIKE THOSE POSTERS TO READ ABOUT HER. i THINK i AM HAVING A MAD MOMENt to be honest. I am just so pissed of with the attitude of a lot of the norms on here. the shame is the good people do out number the shits.(sorry caps stuck)
to see someone who has imo only been supportive ion here being treated so badly has made my blood boil,

OP posts:
nikos · 26/07/2008 19:35

Could someone post a link please. I want to complain to mn HQ if necessary as Riven is going thru a really bad time.

MannyMoeAndJack · 26/07/2008 19:40

Let them read all about your beautiful dd if they choose to do so. You have to continue writing about your life without worrying about the thoughts of an acid minority. An inappropriate reply always tells you more about that poster anyway.

wrinklytum · 26/07/2008 21:42

Aww Two Shoes, don't go.You would be a huge loss to mumsnet and I for one will always remember your kind words of support when I first found out about my childs SN and posted here.

I am sure you are worth 2,000,OOO of these ignorant people.

Am off to read the thread in question

2shoes · 26/07/2008 21:54

I am so not going anywhere. just not posting about dd.
I started this thread in anger, am still very angry. at the dipsticks that post such utter shite(my opinion so allowed to say it) and mn hq's lack of support. I just felt like boycotting sn topic. this was never a flounce.

OP posts:
Seuss · 26/07/2008 22:34

Just read it. And over something so trivial as Work Experience.

2shoes · 28/07/2008 14:34

well the shitheads won. riven has now left mn what a shame mn hq could not have just deleted.

OP posts:
MannyMoeAndJack · 28/07/2008 17:46

How do you know riven has left?

What a shame if it is so, we will all be the poorer for it.

2shoes · 28/07/2008 18:17

someone posted on the thread that they had had an email from her.

OP posts:
TheArmadillo · 28/07/2008 18:57

I've had a read through the thread. Absolutely breathtakingly appalling.

I see Mumsnet have deleted some of the posts on there. Not fast enough, by the look of it.

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 28/07/2008 21:06

Have they deleted the posts at last? I complained as soon as they were made but was told they were not personal attacks

2shoes · 28/07/2008 21:23

they have deleted a couple of posts but left others seeing as the posts were reported on saturday, a bit late in the imo

I didn't see that Fio, the f*ckers! And anyway what business is it of anyones to be laying down judgment on how any of us cope or not with children's disability.
