Ahna I’m glad sleep is better for you but sorry things are still tough with childcare etc. do you get any funding to help with any of it? Have you looked into people with a carers background rather than a nanny-type?

openupmyeagereyes · 07/07/2026 16:55

carrie have you looked at local ASC schools?

carriebradshawwithlessshoes · 07/07/2026 18:02

No open not yet. He doesn’t even have a diagnosis although apparently some don’t need it. What I don’t want is to move him to something that’s no better/ worse than where he is!! The EP despite saying all this hasn’t identified any schools. He said he will come with me once I have seen some. In all honesty I still wonder if an EOTAS type arrangement works be better. Or one to one in his current school tho the EP said that would be like fitting a square peg in a round hole. I’ll keep you posted.

I don't think there are many schools that operate like that around here. DS's school is said to be for autism a moderate LD. His curriculum is not individualised. There are 4 classes in yr8 and DS is in the lowest ability group who will not be doing any GCSEs.

Ahna glad that the sleep has improved but it must be tricky looking for a placement and securing wrap around care.

I just got a message from school re DS's behaviour. Think 'that parent' mode may need to be activated. Apparently they have been struggling with his behaviour for the last few weeks but have only just informed me. He has been having lunchtime detentions - funnily enough that hasn't helped. He needs movement and low demands during the breaks to help him self regulate.

I do hope the EP isn’t leading us a merry dance then. No point in saying he needs a place but it doesn’t exist…?!

what has been the issue dimples? Are you going to speak to them?

openupmyeagereyes · 07/07/2026 21:06

dimples you’ve said this before about Ds’ school. I cannot believe such a school does that. It’s ridiculous.

openupmyeagereyes · 07/07/2026 21:07

carrie I’d look at the websites of all the schools in an hour’s radius and see what they say about how learning is delivered. State and private.

dimples76 · 08/07/2026 07:15

I ended up exchanging a few messages with his TA last night. She acknowledged that detentions don't work for him and won't be sending him to any more. But then he will be with different staff in September ...so will this start again (given school's behaviour management strategies). Ugghhh

But I am saddened by DS's behaviour. He has been upsetting his classmates by saying mean things. I don't know what exactly what he frequently tells me that I am ugly, fat, stupid etc. This did seem to be only directed at me or occasionally DD. It has reduced a lot at home since I adopted a strategy of never reacting to it in the moment (I had previously tried that but was less consistent).

Sorry about the friendship thing @Carrie. My friends' children are generally a lot older than mine (other than Mum friends with SEN kids) so it does not really lead to those kind of comparisons - and it is really hard not to.

Looking forward to watching the film that you recommended @openupmyeagereyes

dimples have you tried to get it written into the EHCP that he has no detentions? Try and speak to the new teacher at the start of term. It’s ridiculous for a SS.

openupmyeagereyes · 10/07/2026 14:13

IT’S SO BLOODY HOT! I hate it.

dimples76 · 10/07/2026 17:25

I am sure that it's cooler here than with you @Open but still too hot for me. My two are squabbling non stop. I loved Project Hail Mary - wished that it was a series rather than a film so that I could have more of it!

Don't think that there would be much chance of getting anything in his EHCP as head did last AR and seems to be a fan of detentions. His EHCP does have observations about his response to behaviour management though in A and B so I guess that it would make sense to push for F to be adjusted accordingly

I’ve come to really like Ryan Gosling over the last few years. I thought the ending was just lovely. I really liked the karaoke scene too. That song is really stuck in my head at the moment.

carriebradshawwithlessshoes · 12/07/2026 10:05

I am in a European city with DD on a girls break. Because of where we are we are walking all day, it’s a must and currently just under 40. In a city boutique hotel dreaming of a pool… 🥵🥵.

carriebradshawwithlessshoes · 12/07/2026 10:05

Thinking how much DS would hate this!!

openupmyeagereyes · 12/07/2026 20:24

carrie hope you managed to find places to keep you cool.
