I didn't know where to put this thread but settled for special needs as that's where it all started.

I know you all probably know how fab she is already but I wanted you all to know how lovely I think she is so....

As you may be aware Aloha is a journalist and she got in contact with me with an idea of interviewing me for a positive article about having a child with DS. We did the piece over the phone and she arrranged for a photographer etc to come round and take pics etc.

That in itself makes her fab in my eyes - to have thought about the idea and to have contacted me about it, but now she has emailed me to say that she will be paid for writing this piece and as a 'thank you' she wants to make a donatin to a DS charity!

So I just wanted to make you all aware of exactly how kind she is and how sweet and to restore some faith in anyone who may have lost a bit recently that there are good, kind people like her in the world.

It made me smile and feel good today - hope it does you.

Thank you Aloha, really, thank you SO much.

TC x

ah TC that's lovely. And that is kind of Aloha. I have to say that as far as MN goes she always comes up with some very sane and helpful advice.

ThomCat · 09/01/2004 15:00

She's great isn't she.

Aloha - you shouldn't be embarressed, you should be proud of yourself. Credit where credit is due.

With regard to the article - it'll be Eve magazine
but not sure when. April issue, out March Ithink - Aloha???

I have to warn you though I had a make-up artist do my make-up and I really did look like a drag queen when she'd finished, it was hysterical. Dom and I were in fits of laughter, and me and the photographer were giggling about it but she promised me it would look okay in the photos. I hardly ever where make-up and when I do I wear a teeny tiny bit. Also we were supposed to go to the park to take the pictures but it was raining so she took them on our bed!!! Aggghhh - I hadn't changed my sheets for 2-3 weeks!!!!! I could have died. Especially as we'd let Lottie eat toast and marmite in our bed a few days earlier!!!!!!!!!!! Oh the shame of having a marmite stain (and yes thank you - it WAS marmite) on your duvet when you have a bunch of strangers in your house!!!!!!!

Ooooo, I can't wait! I'm sure 5 minutes with Photoshop will be able to edit out the marmite, TC!

salt · 09/01/2004 15:46

Well done - Aloha and how nice of TC to give you this recognition... will be keeping my eye out for eve!

DSW · 09/01/2004 15:55

How lovely!! I too will keep my eye out for Eve Magazine!!

I think Eve sales may rocket in March/April???

SenoraPostrophe · 09/01/2004 15:57

Sounds brilliant! (will someone send me a copy of the magazine? )

tamum · 09/01/2004 16:06

I'd be glad to SenoraPostrophe, I'll be getting one anyway. Do you want to contact me and give me your address?

SenoraPostrophe · 09/01/2004 16:08

ta very much tamum!

fairydust · 09/01/2004 16:37

thomcat - please could you make an announcement when it comes out as i would love to read it.

JanH · 09/01/2004 16:50

She is, TC. And so are you.

Kayleigh · 09/01/2004 16:52

Ahhh that is nice Thomcat. Always thought Aloha sounded lovely.
Usually get Eve magazine anyway but will make extra sure to get a copy that month. Shame Aloha doesn't get commission on sales !

ThomCat · 09/01/2004 16:54

Yeah of course I will - no worries - I'll just have to go into hiding once you've all been subjected to Thomcat the Drag Queen! I was just missing the feather boa and silver sequin dress!
I know it's not all about what I look like in the pictures, far from it, but the photographer also made me change out of my slimming black top and wear a beige unflattering jumper!!!!
Anyway, doesn't matter - it's the story and the effect it may have on people who may not be down with Down's that is important - and that's why Aloha is so fab!

What a lovely, heart warming thing to read on this miserable wet day . Well done to the both of you and I will look out for the magazine. Remind us when it is due at the time though.

Lou33 · 09/01/2004 16:56

Can I join in this? ALoha was also brilliant for me in finding me someone to talk to about botox for ds2. She is truly a wonderful person .

suedonim · 09/01/2004 16:58

Aw, what a heartwarming thread! I agree that both TC and Aloha are wonderful women. But Aloha, you're not Beetroot, Nearlymybeetrootday is Beetroot.

Lou33 · 09/01/2004 17:01

TC already knows I love her too .

ThomCat · 09/01/2004 17:30

Lou - you nutter! This is tuning into an all round mutual admiration club - cos I think you're bloody gorgeous and have been a very supportive and great friend
In fact Mumsnet is full of amazing, caring, compassionate, informative, supportive and generally wonderful individulas - too many names to list and I'd be too scared I'd miss someone lovely off by accident!
