'does she have downs?'

something that has been said about dd2 before now. i dunno, does she? i dont think so, but she does have a bit of a 'look' about her. i dont think she looks like she has DS, but there is soemthing 'otherworldly' (lol, no other way to describe it, not i na bad way either) about her. she looks like me, but not really IYKWIM. i am trying hard to word this so as not to be insenstive, but its hard. i dont mean to be honest. just finding it hard.

have you seen my sons epi thingy folds?

Wallace · 08/02/2006 20:19

misdee - She is very pretty and desn't look a all like she has DS. Funny I expected her to be really dark like your dd3!

geekgrrl - your dd looks really like my dd (who deosn't have DS) I guess it is more about what the child looks like, rather than what the syndrome looks like.

Misdee - she is so like my Tate, he is now 17 months and although he has hardly any hair he is very similar facially to your DD.

Very cute if I say so myself...

misdee · 08/02/2006 20:24

My SIL is Downs.. other ways to check are lack of thumb joint.. you know, the bendy one in the middle, also check that eyes are level with tops of ears.. DD was high risk triple test and it took me 2wks before I believed she wasn't. Midwife thought she looked it, but DH has v flat slanted eyes..

Roobie · 08/02/2006 20:46

Is is right that another sign is if they don't have the 'M' shape on their palm? Children with ds have 2 straight lines across?

Caroline5 · 08/02/2006 20:46

dd2 also has these epicanthal folds - in fact at an eye appointment the optician asked if her father was Chinese! (he's not)

Caroline5 · 08/02/2006 20:48

I think having one single line on the palm (the simian crease) can be connected with some genetic syndromes. I'm not sure if Downs is one of those.

alliep30 · 08/02/2006 20:50

yes.. another one. They also tend to be pear shaped as they eat and eat! My SIL is great. She can do most things as long as within her routine.. If you break the routine problems really start.. for example, if the Radio Times is not folded over to the appropriate time and day then she will not rest til it is, or more seriously, she would sit in a bath of scalding water and not know what to do...But funny little things like she panics if you wash her in case you lose her parting, and it won't come back. I love her to bits

alliep30 · 08/02/2006 20:51

i meant to put, was her hair!

Wallace · 08/02/2006 21:02

Love the curls misdee

Here is my dd . She also has the flat bridge, and slight creases in the corners of her eyes.

sharonkitten · 09/02/2006 20:52

Caroline5 - yes the single palmar crease is one of the 'signs' of Down Syndrome (though my DD who has DS doesnt have it)

sharonkitten · 09/02/2006 20:55

Misdee - my daughter has Down Syndrome and I have just looked at your pics of your gorgeous daughter and though she has epicanthic folds I would never have thought she has DS so do not know why people are suggesting it to you.

Pics of my daughter are here with some taken yesterday

Misdee I understand your worries because I worry about everything, and little concerns of mine escalate in my mind so much so that I convince myself that ds has got what I have worried about, if that makes sense at all.

sharronkitten just want to say how adorable your dd looks.

sharonkitten · 09/02/2006 21:30

Thank you lockets - i was very sad at the end of January as it was no longer her month anymore

misdee · 09/02/2006 21:44

oh sharonkittne, your dd has the most amazing eyes, they make me melt.

i dont know why people say it. some people say the strnagest things. its like they say to me 'oh was she born with all that hair' err no, i put extensions in as soon as she was born.

feeling easier tonight. not as stressy.

sharonkitten - thanks for sharing your photos. Really great to see her grow with each next link ! This was my favourite. Gorgeous !

(If you missed mine, the latest album is here ).

Glad you're a teensy bit less stressed misdee.

Cristina7 · 10/02/2006 10:15

Gorgeous babies.

Constanze has beautiful big eyes.

butty · 10/02/2006 10:46

Hi Misdee,

i don't know if you remeber my thread in november at dylan having very prominent facial features including wide set eyes, flat bridge, bad teeth, and the many folds.

the docs all suspected downs or mosaicism downs, but the tests all came back normal!!!

he has GDD and Hypotonia like your ds, although he has been referred to the genetesists as they think that he has williams syndrome and a couple of other syndromes in mind, and they are using his facial features and other diabilities to work out which fish tests to carry out.

Don't panick about what others may say, as i did and for nothing.

Your ds is gorgeous, and even if she did have D's she will still be gorgeous and the same little girl.

try not to worry too much and take care,

Butty.xxx
