Hi, I don’t post often but I’m just looking to see if anyone else is finding it really hard to keep healthy eating at the moment. I am a bit of an emotional eater, and trying to work from home with a preschooler and a year 6 who has autism and demand avoidance issues is taking its toll on me even after just a week (have been wfh since last Thursday). I have been trying to have SW friendly meals but my snacking is out of control and I’m losing the mental motivation to make the meals. I have lost 4 stone so far and dread putting it back on. I know there are bigger things going on but this is a big part of my mental well-being and I am struggling Sad does anyone have an tips or advice, or just feeling in a similar position x

My little one is only four months old and I've been praying for nice weather to get out and fit but now we are stuck in! I've tried putting all bad snacks in one place and just trying to avoid it (I'm also short so if I put them high it helps), and having lots of healthy stuff ready to grab for convenience! Simple but might help, I've also been getting up and going out for my walk early to get off to a good start to the day, not sure if that's possible for you with the two kids! I've also set myself the target to stay the same, take a bit of pressure off yourself Smile

Perpetuallytiredzzz · 03/04/2020 13:07

Thanks Lottie, I have started to pick up a bit last few days, we had our virtual group on Tuesday and I think it really helped with my mindset. I am still going slightly over syns most days but better than I was. I am looking to maintain now as you say as a goal while we are locked down and also I usually run 3 times a week so I am trying to still do this and have walks the with children on the other days. I think it’s the long days indoors where the day just stretches out indefinitely that I find hard! I’ve also not bought any more of my sweet snack foods and going to try and stick to yogurt or fruit as my snacks! Good luck to you as well x

I am exactly the same. I just cannot stick to it. Even though I plan healthy meals I just snack in between, so I may as well not bother. It's boredom for me. Husband is working from home, I'm looking after 1 and 2.5 year old.

Would anyone like to use this thread for motivation? My PIL are kindly buying us a takeaway from a lovely local restaurant tonight, so I'm thinking to have today off and start tomorrow. I'm in the supermarket queue now so going to stock up on loads of healthy stuff.

Perpetuallytiredzzz · 05/04/2020 12:45

I’m happy to check in and see how people are doing - I find it is the being stuck with the kids but not doing much that is a big trigger for snacking for me too. I know I have been over my syns every day this week but I think eating the healthy meals is helping to limit the damage so is definitely worth trying to stick with that. And having off plan days okay too in the current circumstances- sometimes you don’t have the mental space for SW on top of everything else!

Morning @Perpetuallytiredzzz and anyone else who wants to join Smile

Had a good day yesterday, speedy fruit for breakfast, 2 Wheetabix for lunch and roast lamb for tea. Used up all of my syns on a cereal bar, chocolate and gravy for the roast.

Took my boys out for a walk for our exercise.

Weighed yesterday - 12 stone 12.5lbs. Think I will have Saturday as my weigh in day going forward though. Want to get back down to 12 stone.

PeppaisaBitch · 06/04/2020 07:02

I am the same. First weeks after I lost my job I went crazy on the takeaways and snack food. Gained. Lost that last week but still can't stop snacking. I'm finding having the food in to make meals a problem. I can't really just eat a bowl of pasta and cheese and expect to lose but can't find courgettes for the life of me. And the snacks. Big bars of chocolate and sweets in the cupboard. Also things I wouldn't normally do. So kids up early have breakfast at 6:30/7 so have a snack at 11. Me too. Mid afternoon - home time snack. Me too. I deserve it. Only good thing is exercise as I'm running more as not as tired.

PeppaisaBitch · 06/04/2020 07:04

I'm defrosting pork for tea and managed to find a really expensive courgette for pork ratatouille. So that's syn free. Plus fruit for breakfast. Lack of routine doesn't help.

Perpetuallytiredzzz · 06/04/2020 17:03

Hi all, hope your day has gone ok I have had an off plan day I think because I weighed in this morning and have lost 2lb so I let myself relax a bit - doh! Also supposed to be WFH today but youngest has been a real pain and dh is complaining of being tired and had to go for a nap Hmm so that’s been out the window which stressed me out. Kitchen is currently a tip and I’m being pestered for food yet again!! Sorry that was a bit of a moan just having a bad day with the house I think! So I’ll need to pull myself together for tomorrow.

Morning to all and anyone who reads and would like some support at the moment, @istheresomethingwrongwithme how are you doing today? @PeppaisaBitch how was the pork? My dh is out for our food shop this morning as we have used up all our fresh stuff, hoping he manages to get what we need! Was a bad food day for me yesterday but I am treating each new day as opportunity to do the best I can atm and aim is to maintain or lose

Hi @Perpetuallytiredzzz and everyone else!

I had a reasonable day yesterday, thank you. We always do double roast on a Sunday so we can just reheat on a Monday night, so it was lamb again for me last night. I used my syns on a chocolate rice cake, chocolate Fibre One cake, plus the gravy on my roast.

Tonight it's chicken stir fry and noodles. Got the chicken marinading and have a bag of stir fry veg, so that's ready to go.

I got into an awful habit of weighing myself every morning Confused I've decided it's got to stop so I weighed on Sunday and will now weigh on Saturday mornings only going forward.

I'm a bit like you with the kids asking for about 1,725 a day. It's so hard to resist! Will take them out for another walk this afternoon. We're lucky to have fields in front of our house that we can walk in, but the boys are getting bored of the same old thing. Can't blame them. They are 1 and nearly 3, I'm finding it really hard to keep them occupied now Confused

istheresomethingwrongwithme · 08/04/2020 10:03

Morning @Perpetuallytiredzzz, how was yesterday?

I had a good day, ate as planned plus a Fibre One cake and some chocolate. Also had sweet chilli sauce in stir fry, so finished the day on 13.5 syns. When I've done SW before I've stayed well under 10 syns a day, but at the moment I think I'm better just allowing myself my max syns and staying on plan rather than falling off the wagon completely.

Took the boys for a walk through our small market town instead of the fields just to mix things up a bit. There is a small public garden that I haven't been in for years, so the older one had a run around in there. It was so quiet, I haven't been through town for weeks so I really noticed it. I think we see more people when we walk round the country roads!

Tea tonight is salmon with jacket potatoes and vegetables. Will have some speedy fruit for breakfast in a bit and there's leftover stir fry for lunch.

Hope everyone has a good day Smile

PeppaisaBitch · 08/04/2020 16:52

Pork was good. I'm expecting a gain this week. It's not my meals but snacking. Always snacking. Definitely out of boredom.

istheresomethingwrongwithme · 09/04/2020 05:51

@PeppaisaBitch I am the same. Our meals are pretty much the same as pre-SW, just a few small changes like using Fry Light, 5% fat mince etc. It's the snacking and puddings for me Confused

PeppaisaBitch · 09/04/2020 09:28

I'm up 1/2 pound. Which isn't as bad as I thought. I'm doing to much baking with the kids and need ideas for healthy things my kids can help make.

Perpetuallytiredzzz · 09/04/2020 11:14

Hi, hope today is going well so far. @PeppaisaBitch not too bad half a pound, must admit I bake with the little one and then want to eat the end product!! I don’t have any healthy sweet recipes but the Slimming Eats website has a section which you might find some on. I have also made the slimming world recipe pizza dough and tomato base, then made the pizzas with the kids and let them top them, which they enjoyed and it was healthy at least! I am still struggling with the snacking but keep trying different things to limit the damage and hope for the best - trying to have very low syn or syn free meals so I can get away with more snacks and am definitely allowing the full 15 Grin

OP posts:
istheresomethingwrongwithme · 09/04/2020 11:23

Well done @PeppaisaBitch, could have been lot worse. I've tried so many healthy baking recipes and never found anything decent. I did some healthyish flapjacks for the boys the other day (eggs and milk instead of butter). They are now out on the bird table, even the baby who will eat anything turned his nose up at them!

We're having spaghetti bolognaise tonight, will try and pack as much speed in a possible so grated carrot, celery and mushrooms as well as the usual stuff.

Tried my shorts on this morning - very tight! It's gorgeous weather here (Cornwall) so I really need to shift this weight and get back into them. We're in the process of buying a new house (terrible timing!) and will be doing a big extension/renovation project, so I'm on a mission to save money and not buy more clothes etc. If the shorts won't fit me, I'll need to make myself fit the shorts!

Perpetuallytiredzzz · 09/04/2020 17:30

@istheresomethingwrongwithme lol at the healthy flapjack recipe 😆, this is the same for me with low fat ‘creamy’ dishes - I can never get them right! Where we are the weather has been nice but not baking, I will definitely need some new summer clothes as I have lost a lot of weight since last summer, but probably not for a little while yet luckily. I am still snacking (sigh) debating a slightly different approach where I don’t follow the plan as tightly but focus on little and often, but think that might unravel quickly into eating whatever so we’ll see.

OP posts:
istheresomethingwrongwithme · 10/04/2020 17:38

Yes! Whenever I try to do anything creamy on SW it either separates or curdles Confused

Fair enough, it's hard at the moment. How about setting yourself a higher syn level, so you're allowing yourself more but not unlimited snacks? Even if it was say 40 syns per day, at least you'd be be aware of how much you're eating. I know what I'm like, once I get going I can't stop.

Fairly good day today, bbq for tea so DH and I are going halves on a steak with a pork and vegetable kebab each. Salad and new potatoes on the side. Expect I'll have a Fibre One cake and some chocolate with my syns later.

JaceLancs · 10/04/2020 21:30

I’m totally on plan with meals
My problem is drinking too much n snacking especially chocolate

Perpetuallytiredzzz · 11/04/2020 17:43

@istheresomethingwrongwithme that’s a good idea about setting a syn amount might try that Smile. Hi @JaceLancs snacking is my main issue too, luckily I rarely drink so that isn’t causing me a problem but eating nonSW friendly food definitely is! Was doing well today but this time of day is a bad one for me and now blown it with snacks for another day😭 . I am feeling a bit down today really missing having time out of home away from kids for more than just errands and struggling to get our older dd who is autistic to do anything other than be on phone/laptop Sad I know we are lucky in many ways but it is just hard! How’s everyone doing today? X

OP posts:
istheresomethingwrongwithme · 12/04/2020 06:54

Hi everyone. Getting on ok here, stepped on the scales yesterday and weighed 12at 7.5lbs. Technically that's a 5lb loss, but I've fluctuated between 12.7 and almost 13 stone since Christmas so that's definitely water weight. This has been my first whole week properly back on plan this year, so treating that as a 'first week' loss. Now the hard work really starts!

We've not been walking the last couple of days because it's been so hot - the baby sleeps in the morning and by the afternoon they're just too hot and bothered. It looks to be cooler this week so we'll get the boys out for a few stomps around the fields hopefully.

Roast chicken for tea tonight and will do enough for tomorrow.

stoptherideiwanttogetoff · 12/04/2020 14:22

Can I join you all, I need a real kick up the backside. I've been snack and not really counting what I eat and my weight is creeping back on. I actually feel quite disgusted with myself..!! Husband being home doesn't help as he's a feeder and doesn't give a dam about his weight. I do and I have to shake this off ASAP! Getting lots of exercise here with the kids home out on our bikes / walking etc.. May throw in a morning run daily with the dog. We live very rural and no one will see my wobbly boys at least..!!

Perpetuallytiredzzz · 12/04/2020 17:54

Well done @istheresomethingwrongwithme great loss! Star Hi @stoptherideiwanttogetoff of course everyone is welcome Smile how has everyone’s day been? I decided to restart the plan on Monday as I have to weigh in for the virtual group Monday morning for Tuesdays at the moment and I caved and had Dominos pizza last night Blush . Had the leftovers for lunch with salad today and just couldn’t face trying to keep track of everything when it’s a new week tomorrow anyway. I did do my longest run ever this morning at just over 7k though so was pleased with that effort!

OP posts:
istheresomethingwrongwithme · 13/04/2020 05:18

@Perpetuallytiredzzz wow 7k, that's great. I used to run loads pre-babies and loved it, now trying to get back into it. Another reason to shift some weight!

Had a good day yesterday, roast chicken for tea. Used syns on a couple of biscuits, a Fibre One cake and the roast dinner gravy. Second round of roast chicken tonight.

Managed to avoid all Easter chocolate! Every year I cut back on how much I buy for the boys (one chocolate egg and a chocolate bunny this year) but every year other people seem to buy them more - even in lockdown!

Hi @stoptherideiwanttogetoff Smile

Perpetuallytiredzzz · 13/04/2020 18:14

How’s everyone’s day been? @istheresomethingwrongwithme you did well to avoid the chocolate! I weighed in this morning obv on my home scales- 3lb on Sad this is the worst weight gain for me since starting even compared to Christmas and a Florida holiday!! I have to try and draw a line now so have made some syn free soup and Chinese curry sauce to use over the next few days and trying to plan each day to avoid too many snacks
