Going to bed with wet hair

My DD has quite a head of hair now! She has a bath before bed so its still wet when she goes to sleep, do you think thats ok? Is that what everyone else does?
I towel dry it but thats it!

It's fine. Dumb old wives tales talk about it giving you a cold but that is obvious nonsense.

TeapotCollection · 04/06/2021 21:03

Wouldn’t have thought it matters, assuming she’s a very young child

I wouldn’t dare, mine would look like a birds nest in the morning

MrsTerryPratchett · 04/06/2021 21:03

I do. I don't suffer any ill effects except slightly curly hir in the morning.

COL1N · 04/06/2021 21:06

Ok thats good, thanks! Yes shes just a toddler & her hair does look pretty mad in the morning! Does everyone just leave their kids hair wet? I cant imagine she would like me using the hairdryer!

if i wash my hair before bed i normally put it in two plaits. it actually dries then, and as a bonus i wake up with nice wavy hair. win win.

Chunkymenrock · 04/06/2021 21:06

Not good for damp soaking into pillow. OK for hair though!

gooseygander88 · 04/06/2021 21:09

I personally hate going to bed with wet hair makes my scalp feel cold, pillow wet etc. My DD hates having her hair dried but let's say 3mins of 'the battle' and it's over.

wiltingflower · 04/06/2021 21:11

That's fine, assuming she has straight hair, plait the hair or use the dressing gown belt to keep hair tidy and make it wavy or curly the next day

Lulu1919 · 04/06/2021 21:12

I've been going to bed with wet hair for decades !!!
I've got long hair and I'm 52

Bluntness100 · 04/06/2021 21:14

Doesn’t it make her pillow damp and cold?

RichTeaCheddars · 04/06/2021 21:14

I go to bed with wet hair. I put a towel on the pillow. But for a child I suppose I'd put the towel inside the pillow case to stop it soaking into the pillow.

Tiredmum100 · 04/06/2021 21:15

I blow dry my dc hair before bed. I personally wouldn't like going to bed with damp hair, I think it would make the pillow damp and uncomfortable?

NegativelyPositive · 04/06/2021 21:16

I don't - your hair is more fragile when wet and when your head moves around at night it can cause damage.

COL1N · 04/06/2021 21:16

Do most people use the hairdryer on their kids before bed then fo you think?

Intern going to bed with wet hair so never let ds do this. Your scalp gets cold, the pillow gets damp and ruined and hair breaks easier.

TippledPink · 04/06/2021 21:23

I go to bed with wet hair a couple of times a week. Saves me drying it!

Faranth · 04/06/2021 21:24

I go to bed with wet hair because I can't be bothered to faff with my hairdryer, but it does make the pillow unpleasantly damp.

DD loves the hair dryer - she used to giggle like mad when she was tiny!

diamondpony80 · 04/06/2021 21:25

I don’t like going to bed with wet hair myself because my head gets cold and I hate the feeling of a damp pillow. I use a hairdryer on DD age 6 and she doesn’t mind it - she didn’t like it as a toddler tho so I used to wash her hair earlier in the day so that it could dry naturally.

Anatomical · 04/06/2021 21:25

I used to deliberately go to bed with wet hair every night when I lived in a hot climate - used to tell myself it was my personal air-conditioning. Still like to do it now on a hot night!

It's absolutely fine.

blackcat86 · 04/06/2021 21:26

My toddler sometimes goes to bed with wet hair. If she'll let me dry it then I will but if not then a quick brush is completely fine.

ElderMillennial · 04/06/2021 21:26

I would have thought it was a bit uncomfortable as I don't like goi to bed with wet hair and would either wash her hair earlier so it has time to dry or gently use a hair dryer.

Jellyfishnchips · 04/06/2021 21:31

We use hairdryer to dry DD hair after bath, before bed and took a while to get used to it but is fine with it now. We have a drier that is a quiet one and do it on the low setting so is not disruptive before bed

Molehillfromamountain · 04/06/2021 21:32

I use a hair dryer on DD7 and have done since she was small. She hates when the back of her PJs gets wet as her hair is quite long now.

Notaroadrunner · 04/06/2021 21:36

I'd never go to bed with wet hair as I'd hate sleeping on a damp pillow.

Samcartys · 04/06/2021 21:56

I do both with my 3 year old. I couldn’t be bothered stand there blow drying it tonight, too hot and I don’t think she would sit still. I just towel dried it and plaited it.
