My DD has quite a head of hair now! She has a bath before bed so its still wet when she goes to sleep, do you think thats ok? Is that what everyone else does?
I towel dry it but thats it!

I used to as a child with long hair, and it never bothered me, but as an adult I wouldn't like the damp pillow.

BettysFondantFancy · 04/06/2021 21:59

I always used to dry DD's hair before bed. Wouldn't like to think of her sleeping on a damp pillow.

olivo · 04/06/2021 22:01

I have always gone to bed with wet hair, as do my Dcs, now in their teens. No issue so far!

myfuckingfreezer · 04/06/2021 22:02

@COL1N

Do most people use the hairdryer on their kids before bed then fo you think?
Yep. Otherwise their pillow would be cold and damp and go mouldy.
denverRegina · 04/06/2021 22:18

Why would you want mouldy wet pillows? Just dry her hair, I don't understand why you wouldn't

SquigglePigs · 04/06/2021 22:20

DD is 2 and hates the noise from my hair dryer so we wash hers at least a couple of hours before bed and then it's basically dry. I doubt it'll do her any harm to go to bed with wet hair occasionally though as long as it's totally dried as much as possible.

IHaveBrilloHair · 04/06/2021 22:22

I don't like it myself but there's nothing wrong with it.
Fragile hair/mouldy pillows?
Ha, what nonsense.

No, i never bathed mine before bed though. I always did it after tea. Now they just shower in the morning with the exception of the youngest who showers at 7pm and goes to bed at 9:30pm

Newchances · 04/06/2021 22:27

Anytime I've went to bed with my hair wet I've had a creek in my neck in the morning - no idea why

EmmaJR1 · 04/06/2021 22:27

@wiltingflower

That's fine, assuming she has straight hair, plait the hair or use the dressing gown belt to keep hair tidy and make it wavy or curly the next day
Not sure putting a rope on a toddlers head is that safe...
Poorlykitten · 04/06/2021 22:27

It apparently increases risk of fungal scalp infections.

WaltzingToWalsingham · 04/06/2021 22:31

I don't believe that going to bed with wet hair gives you a cold, and did it many times as a teen.

But I always dry my DC's hair if I wash it at bedtime now, because I would be concerned about mould and mildew growing in damp pillows, and my DC inhaling the spores and developing a lung disease.

denverRegina · 04/06/2021 22:32

"Anytime I've went to bed with my hair wet I've had a creek in my neck in the morning - no idea why"

Just the water rushing out

ThePhantom · 04/06/2021 22:32

When I wash my dd's hair I do it in the afternoon or early evening. I dont like going to bed with wet hair , so don't really want her to either. I wouldn't want to blow-dry my toddlers hair.

ForbiddenAppleEatingShits · 04/06/2021 22:33

I used to dry my own hair with a hairdryer around dd when she was a baby so she got used to the noise and sometimes I'd blow a bit much cooler and lowest setting from a distance away towards her and make a game of it so that by the time it came to her needing her hair dried she wasn't freaked out by the sound or the feeling if air being blown on her.

I wouldn't use a dressing gown belt to keep a toddlers hair tidy or in place for sleeping like a pp suggested for safety reasons. (Not a dig at the op that suggested) All the toddler dressing gowns I've seen don't have a removable cord and there's a risk of her pulling it out and tangling it round her neck.

magicstar1 · 04/06/2021 22:35

I just put a folded towel on my pillow when I’ve washed my hair, it stops the pillow getting wet.

Haudyourwheesht · 04/06/2021 22:37

DD (4) refuses the hairdryer so goes to bed with towel dried hair.

Nuggetnugget · 04/06/2021 22:37

I dry both my boys hair after a bath. They like it. They have short hair and I have done it for a long time - since aged 2 or so

FTEngineerM · 04/06/2021 22:38

hair breaks easier.

Is that scientific?
I ask because my hair was touching my ass, and thick as hell and no split ends before I cut it few weeks ago, I never blowdry my hair.. ain’t got time for that. Mostly I go to bed with wet hair but sometimes I do it in the day.

Wake up curly and thickkkkk

Totallydefeated · 04/06/2021 22:40

Don’t dust mites thrive when it’s a bit damp in the pillow? I believe they like a bit of moisture to drink. I also don’t much care for a damp pillow. Unless it’s like 35 degrees or something. So I wouldn’t do it to DD. A quick blast with the drier sorts it pretty quick, no?

MrMeeseekslookatme · 04/06/2021 22:48

I do dry my DS hair before bed because otherwise its an absolute nightmare in the morning. DS1 hair is straight but thick. He has a bit at the back that sticks up no matter which direction it gets brushed in. DS2 has curly hair.

You don't need to do a full on blow dry, a quick five minute blast with the hair dryer and a brush through should suffice. If you don't dry it, at least braid it and then it will be more manageable in the morning.

I have curly hair. It either needs to be dried or braided before bed if it's wet.

Nuggetnugget · 04/06/2021 23:04

With a hairdryer

Smokeymirror · 04/06/2021 23:06

Someone I know had Bell’s palsy and she told me it was from going to bed with wet hair?? It was temporary but lasted a few weeks. No idea if it was that but she was adamant. Put me off ever doing it

Totallydefeated · 04/06/2021 23:22

My Nan used to say that’s how you got Bell’s palsy, Smokeymirror!

I never believed her yet somehow really hate the idea of going to bed with wet hair. Maybe my subconscious believes her even though consciously I think it’s a load of tosh!

RhubarbCustardy · 04/06/2021 23:27

As someone else posted yes it encourages bedmites which is why most people air their bed daily by pulling back the covers. Also mould so I'd wash it in the morning or earlier so it's dry.
