Well...I had to think of something! DH's suggestion "Eyes wide shut--the art of sleepwalking"

OP posts:
Amberjee · 22/11/2007 12:52

glad you're on the mend (even if it's slow)

i think we might be going to one nap.

seems young to be doing it but there you go. i kept ds awake until 11.30 this morning and he was generally ok, and now he's been sleping 1 1/2 hours. i think he should be able to just make it to bedtime (maybe an early one though) even if he wakes up soon.

i think this might be better as we've been fighting some naps lately.

Amberjee · 22/11/2007 12:53

CSB, sounds like a sensible thing for a HV to say for once!

tibsy · 22/11/2007 13:07

csb for night but for HV. wow!!!!

sorry for those still battling illness. hope you all get well soon

amber but also for you. it sounds heavenly!!!! x

MegBusset · 22/11/2007 13:20

Amber, did you give lunch before the nap or will he have it after?

CSB sorry yo had a bad night but for supportive HV. We used to have a lovely one but since we've moved we're at a new clinic and they seem nice but too busy to be much use . I haven't been for ages anyway as he's been ill, suppose I should take him for a weigh-in soon.

EP hope your cough clears soon (and DS's), hope DH is looking after you both!

LO just gone down for a nap though he seemed still full of beans despite only having had 15 mins this morning. If he has less than 45 mins now I will despair. I had got used to my 2 x at least an hour!

Jaysthird · 22/11/2007 13:31

hi ladies, and thanks for tips and suggestions. As for the co sleeping, its just something that doesnt appeal to me, for many reasons, one being that i suffer bad with SPD and have done since the 4th month of my first pregnancy (It never has time to go away in-between pregnancies!) and as a result i have a full body support pillow, which take sup half the bed, i have to move positions a fair bit or else i just 'set'!! So its not really an option for me to have baby in bed with me.

On a brighter note....

Last night DS went off to bed 645, no probs and sleep soundly ..... hmm strange i think, anyway, he didnt eat much dinner and didnt take much of his bedtime bottle, so i thought i would dreamfeed him when i went to bed. Fed him fine and he took a good 6 ozs, then i whiffed him, hmmmm do i check him or not, ( hes fast asleep) anyway i decide that if i dont do it now he will only wake later and scream blue murder... good job i did... we has mass bum explosions, so much so that had to do full change of all clothes and grobag, full on body wash - he had even managed to get it up to his neck...!!!

Anyway, i thought that i was in for a rough ride as he was now awake and looking at me lik,e it was time to get up...however i didnt speak to him, kept the lights low as poss and then just said night night....

Went to bed and lay there waiting for his cries.... next thing i knoww its 6.10am... i had to wake DH up to tell him!!!! so he managed to have about 7 hrs straight through, which is a first!!

Mind you its funny because within 10 mins of me waking he was awake and grunting like pig!!

So maybe i need him to have a bum explosion every night~????!!!!

Anyway, Mum has both kids today but i havnt stopped all morning, we are away to Devon tomorrow so i have been organising clothes stuff etc, its an operation isnt it!
Sorry i dont get on much, but i will keep dipping in and out to keep you updated and have that moan!!

J xx

MegBusset · 22/11/2007 13:52

Hope you enjoy your trip, Jay.

LO woke from his lunchtime nap after 20 minutes! . Luckily I managed to resettle him, no way could I cope with such a short nap.

Also a bit of one of my front teeth has fallen off , best see if I can get to the dentist!

tibsy · 22/11/2007 16:46

jay - great stuff (after poo explosion!!) have a great trip, devon is lovely

meggy, the transition period is a bit of a pita, but once dd settled down, she slept longer than before. fingers x'd lo settles down into new routine soon

right ladies, i'm logging off now, wishing you all lovely evenings and sleepy bubbas x

tibsy · 22/11/2007 16:47

meg tooth, get down to the dentist, pronto!!

Amberjee · 22/11/2007 16:48

meg, i gave lunch after the nap, but because i settled him for the nap with boob, he wasn't that hungry for lunch yet. but when we were out he ate loads at the cafe around 3pm. i would just give food when hungry, and likely to eat and not worry too much about proper meal times etc until it settles into a predictable pattern.

Amberjee · 22/11/2007 17:40

and wow meg, what did you do to your tooth?? how annoying.

Amberjee · 22/11/2007 18:36

i met up with an nct group today who i first met when i was pregnant. i'm the only one still bfing. i feel odd. in a way. i guess i wish more people i knew were still bfing cos i'm probably about to enter that scary 'extended bfing' territory where it's not okay with everyone anymore. i didn't think i'd care but am a tiny bit worried, esp with impending trip home i'm sure i'll be asked when i'm going to stop. any good replies other than 'mind your own business'?

charliemama · 22/11/2007 18:46

Hello all.

Feel drained, worn out, sick, knackered, depressed ... etc

Just when I thought we had had our worst night DS1 got ear ache. I won't bore you with the details suffice to say I had negligable sleep last night.

Today has been tough with quite a few tears. Hey ho tommorrow is another day

Amber how old is your LO? because my friend still breastfeeds her 2 year old at bedtime.

Sorry I am too tired to type anymore. Love you all I am going to bed super early tonight.

Amberjee · 22/11/2007 19:59

poor you CM, hope you get a bit more rest tonight and that tomorrow is easier.

my LO is just a baby still - 11 months!

MegBusset · 22/11/2007 20:10

Oh CM, sorry you are having a rough time {{hugs}}. Hope you are putting your feet up with a glass of wine right now.

Amber, I have no intention of stopping BF any time soon so will be there with you. Luckily I haven't encountered any resistance so far, I'd like to think none of my close friends and family will be fazed by it...

Amberjee · 22/11/2007 20:23

my mum seems to have a bee in her bonnet about me stopping breastfeeding because she reckons i self-weaned at 9 months. when i pushed her about it, she said oh i had to stop feeding as i had an infection, and then you didn't want to feed after that.

possibly a bit different from self-weaning

my grandmother keeps asking me if my 'milk has run out yet'. i plan to tell her i've still got loads of milk and i can't stop until it runs out and say 'otherwise what will i do with all my milk' and then offer her a cup of tea...

will be interested from dh's family as well. i can more easily tell my family to bugger off, but his, well, will be interesting.

tibsy · 23/11/2007 08:00

morning ladies

charlie hope you had a good night darling

amber - people dont dare to ask me when i'm giving up ..... seriously tho, some friends were making fun, saying that i'd still be bfing when she was at school, popping in during the break and lunch times [grrrr] i just said, well, dd likes it, i like it, we're both happy, so whats the problem?

anyway, our night ok, apart from a 90 mins wake up at 3am
the night before, she slept thru, so i'm thinking there's a bit of a pattern emerging and by my reckoning, tonight will be a sleep thru

hope there were some good ones out there (((hugs)))

Amberjee · 23/11/2007 09:07

tibs, well seems like we are alternating with ya., last night we had a sleep through til 5, then back til 7.30. so unfortunately that means tonight we might have a 2 hour waking again. oh well

gingerninja · 23/11/2007 09:30

We also had a 2 hour waking (from 10 - 12 though so wasn't too bad). DD was terribly terribly upset, it the same vein as our recent screamathon which was the first molar coming through so maybe we have another. Poor little bubba, she's still really poorly and nothing would comfort her last night, even daddy and he's her special thing at the moment so it was quite upsetting.

She then went and slept until 6.30 though so we actually felt pretty refreshed this morning.

EffiePerine · 23/11/2007 09:32

Amber: I'm a bit worried about comments as well now DS is over a year, but I'd like to get to 2 years if poss. Have to say that it is a godsend at the moment: DS is full of cold and v coughy and generally ill and ratty and not eating, so at least I know he is getting some nourishment (even though he sicked up a lot of milk over me last night again). And it's a boost at this time of year with so many bugs going round. Chickenpox has now turned up and DS has been exposed to it, but I'm hoping my antibodies will help as I had it in my teens. So I would say that I still enjoy it when all is well (as does DS) but we're both VERY grateful to have it when he's ill.

Baaad night last night, coughing and wailing (him and me), I seem to have got a cold now as well to go with my cough. December can only be better! I think a weekend snuggling up in bed is calling us... sadly am at work at the moment, albeit with a v v large coffee and a muffin.

ChubbyScotsBurd · 23/11/2007 09:33

Morning folks. Yay for almost sleep-throughs, tibs and Amber! Charliemama, I SO hope you had a reasonable night .

I think I'll end up an 'extended BFer too, as DS is pretty obsessive about 'his' boobs ... we're at that tricky 4 month stage where everyone and their dogs is trying to tell us to wean ... especially since he doesn't sleep, I'm constantly being reassured that baby rice is the answer ... er, no, boobs it is!

OK night, he's stuck at no more than 45 mins sleep unless I'm by his side so last night's attempts at watching a DVD were fruitless. Then when I did go to bed he decided it was playtime! But eventually he slept 11-2.30 so

Hope you guys are all still asleep/ out playing in the snow because you're so well rested

EffiePerine · 23/11/2007 09:34

we had a long wake up as well - what is it atm? Must be those teeth again . Hoping we all have a better night tonight!

ChubbyScotsBurd · 23/11/2007 09:36

x posts ... sorry for upset LOs EP and ginger but for eventual snoozing ginger, compensation enough!

EffiePerine · 23/11/2007 09:38

oh and he did seem to be waking every 3 hours rather than 2 so a slight silver lining...

I think we all deserve a week in bed for Christmas!

MegBusset · 23/11/2007 09:40

Morning all and for Tibsy and Amber's nights.

We had a settled evening but then awake 12, 2, 5 and 7 for the day... doesn't sound too bad I spose, but he did have major screaming fits at 12 and 2 and I had to feed at every waking... think it might be teeth (he's v gnawy this morning) as the cough isn't so bad. If it's not one thing it's another!

MegBusset · 23/11/2007 09:45

EP, I think i could use a month in bed to recover from the last nine months' sleeplessness! for your cold, you do seem to have had a rough few weeks of it.

CSB, I know what you mean, I am the only person I know in RL who waited til 6mo to wean, but so glad I did as it can be a right faff! I really don't know why anyone rushes it, I would happily have continued to just BF him, so much easier...

Ginger for the teeth, but glad you got a good stretch from midnight.
