these lo's are strange amber maybe theyve worked out a rota system!!

ginger poor lo. its really hard when they cant be comforted.

EP large coffee and a muffin sound the order of the day poor you and lo. hope youre both feeling better soon

csb - i got that too, when dd was that age and also because she was a 'little and often' feeder rather than big bf's. its just the way my girl's built tho, and it wasnt a cue for blardy baby rice

re. the bfing i love it, and am not giving up any time soon. dd is so cute and now comes up to me, touches my top and asks for 'boobies'....ok at home, but a bit in public

tibsy · 23/11/2007 09:49

x posted meggy. for settled evening, at least you got a bit of 'me' time, but for the screamathons. hope you get some rest today x

ChubbyScotsBurd · 23/11/2007 10:39

tibs your DD souns so cute!

DS will try to latch on through my jumper sometimes

Amberjee · 23/11/2007 11:32

hi everyone

for your cold EP. there are some mighty strong bugs around atm. DS is extra snotty today, hoping he's not getting worse.

Today I'm feeling more determined about BFing, gonna keep going as it's so nice and good for snotty little boys (esp when they leave their snot behind on your boob )

i don't understand the weaning before 6 months thing either unless it's really necessary. i put it down to competitive parenting syndrome where it is somehow seen as success if your baby can eat a roast dinner at 4 months. some days i still forget to take solid food with us and end up feeding him on pret sandwiches and the like (could be worse i guess)

going to have a cup of tea now

tibsy · 23/11/2007 13:54

csb, bless your ds trying to latch on thru your jumper
i took dd to a soft play doo dah today, ball pit stuff and the like. met a mum with a 8 week old baby, who was talking about his digestive probs, cos he eats too much. when i asked if she was bfing , she said no, ffing. no judgements on those who do ff, for whatever reason, but i just looked at this tiny bundle of gorgeousness and felt quite

tibsy · 23/11/2007 13:55

amber, ahhhh, snot on the boob, i know that one

Amberjee · 23/11/2007 13:57

ds just had 2 1/2 hours sleep!!!

i know what you mean tibs, i feel so lucky that i got the right support with bfing at the start. i prob should have given up with all the problems we had, but i was darn stubborn about it!

tibsy · 23/11/2007 14:07

amber wow!!! that was a sleep and a half
i know what you mean re. the bfing. i gave up after a few days with ds, and if i hadnt had the support of my midwife and been so bloody determined to do it this time around, i may have given up again. just makes me when women wont even entertain the idea...oh well, we're all different and entitled to our opinions, for sure

MegBusset · 23/11/2007 14:11

Amber that is more straight sleep than I have some nights!

Oh yes, the snotty boob syndrome, I've had plenty of that while LO has been ill.

CSB at LO trying to latch on through your jumper. These days DS goes for the less subtle option of yanking down my top and sticking his hand down my boobs... must have learned that move off his dad

We have been out for a pub lunch today, DS looked so grown-up sitting up in the high chair, spreading cauliflower cheese all over the place. Now he is asleep, DH is asleep (hungover) and I should be cooking more cauliflower cheese (DS' favourite food of the moment) but can't be arsed!

EffiePerine · 23/11/2007 14:15

Amber: just heard from DH that DS has been asleep on him for 3 hours! (not that I'm being competitive, honest! Though he did throw up over me last tnight which is FAR worse than snot ). Why can't he sleep like that at night?

DS just tugs at my top and wails - no words to milk yet, but then he doesn't need them!

Feeling v sorry for myself here - hot and sneezing and still coughing. But if I go home I'll be looking after DS so not much of a break...

tibsy · 23/11/2007 14:39

meg pub lunch sounds lovely

EP youre feeling crappy. i remember a couple of christmas' ago, i fely really fluey and my mum swore by port and brandy. hell, i felt better after a couple ....not really advisable when at work and/or bfing tho, i guess

MegBusset · 23/11/2007 14:55

EP poor you, working while feeling ill is crappy. My magic cold cure is a very spicy Bloody Mary (you never know, it might make LO sleep more soundly too ).

Well, I have cooked my cauli cheese and both my boys are still asleep!

gingerninja · 23/11/2007 15:21

When you get home EP steam yourself silly. It's the only thing that's helped me.

MegBusset · 23/11/2007 21:26

My friend with an LO pretty much the same age has asked if I want to go out in town one night for a few beers. Hers is a Gina Ford. formula-fed baby and a brilliant sleeper. I'm stuck at home with my more or less AP, BF terrible sleeper and can't even begin to think about a) going further than 10 mins from home at night or b) having more than one glass of wine! Don't get me wrong, I am very glad that she has got a good sleeper but just of it and wonder if I've just gone horribly wrong somewhere... sigh.

ChubbyScotsBurd · 23/11/2007 21:40

You Are Not Alone, Meg!

tibsy · 24/11/2007 08:16

morning all
a good night for us
bed at 7.15pm
woke at 5.30am for a cuddle
up at 6.45am ....thats a lie in at chez tibsy
poor dp in at work again for 6am

hope there were some good nights out there.
oh and meg, it does get easier and you feel that you are able to leave them then

tibsy · 24/11/2007 08:24

ginger, wasnt it your lunch date with dh yesterday? if so, hope you enjoyed it

roro - hope youre enjoying you loooooong weekend. it is this week isnt it?

i'm so confused

Amberjee · 24/11/2007 08:55

meg, it will get easier, you WILL be able to go out, and you've defnitely done the right thing - parenting the way you know you must to be true to yourself. hang on sweetie, it's a tough patch atm for sure.

Amberjee · 24/11/2007 09:29

ps. meg, i really honestly think it has more to do with the child's personality than choice of gina ford/AP or FF/BF. You have a wonderfully gorgeous intelligent little man who might need a little more than the Gina Ford child. I am positive he will reward your efforts a billion fold by becoming the most wonderful person you ever met.

MegBusset · 24/11/2007 10:08

Thanks guys

Glad you had good nights. I'm going to try not to count the wakings for a while, just seems to make me more stressed!

ChubbyScotsBurd · 24/11/2007 10:10

Morning gang.

Hope you're feeling better about things today Meg and thanks for being nice to me last night when you're obviously a bit down yourself

I think you're right about Ro and ginger, tibsy - I hope they're having a nice time. And go you with the big sleeps!

Hope you're feeling better Effie - if not, try and take it easy this weekend, lots of hot lemon for you.

Evenings bit of a nightmare again at the moment, thought the routine thing would work but since DS loses the plot with DP even putting his PJs on last night was a bit fraught. I get so tired and impatient (up and down stairs trying to settle DS, who's exhausted but takes much longer to settle than he'll actually sleep for ) so I ask DP to take a turn which DP uses as an excuse to try CIO on DS . He's 4 months old and he doesn't know how to fall asleep without help, it's like if he was hungry and I just put a glass of milk in front of him and said "What are you crying for, your milk's right there", DP wouldn't tolerate that, would he? Anyway, DP grumpy when I ask for his help then give up and go in after 15 minutes of howling, so DS eventually fell asleep on my shoulder and we had a reasonable night, 3 wakings between 9.30 and 6

So, mini rant over, DP's not talking to me but he's bogged off for a walk with DS in the big boy pushchair so I think I might go and make myself a cake or something .

cruisemum1 · 24/11/2007 12:15

where is ginger??? pleae tell me she doersnt need you anymore . we started this thread last jan i would love to think she is getting some sleep now!

RoRoMommy · 24/11/2007 23:03

Hi everyone! Just popping in before bed to say hello. I have had a wonderful long weekend, dad left today and we had a great time. DS is sleeping pretty well these days, a good long stretch in the early evening and early morning with some unsettled moments in between, but I've found that if I ignore his rolling around he usually settles himself.

The troubling thing is that he's just started consistently biting my nipple, and now that he's got five proper teeth if friggin' hurts. I got mad at him today and had to give him to DH for a break because I was angry and I didn't want him to know. I feel bad because I know it's not his fault. Any suggestions?

I know there's still a lot of sickness going around, so I hope you're all getting time to rest up and feel better soon. I'll be back to my frequently posting self in no time, I hope.

(((hugs)))

Good morning.

DH begged for a lie-in. I relented. As tired as I am, it's nice to be awake with DS in the morning. He's so...spirited.

Amberjee · 25/11/2007 09:55

RoRo, he'll get over the biting thing. Mine went through it a few months back (luckily before he had teeth!) Every time he did it I would take him off the breast and put him on the floor. Even if he cried, I would let him for a minute, then pick him up for a hug. He went without feeding for a whole day because he wouldn't do it without biting. I gave him some milk in a cup when we were at home, he fed fine when he was sleepy and then he hasn't done it for ages now.
I think it's a phase they go through, experimenting to see what happens. And maybe they do it when they are teething too. I think in this case it's good to be firm and they get hte message pretty quickly that it's not ok and the feeding stops if they do it.
