How heavy was your baby when he/she first slept for 8hours straight?

My DD is 4.5months old but was 2 months early and small for dates so still only weighs around 10lbs.

She sleeps well but her limit is about 6hours at night. I suspect this is size related. Books and other posts generally talk about ages which is hard to interpret in my case.

How heavy were yours when they could go for a whole night?

I doubt weight makes much difference to be honest. DC1 was about 8 weeks, exclusively breastfed and smaller than average (about 25th centile), DC2 is heavier and mix fed and still hasn't slept more than 4-5 hours at 4.5 months. Though DC1 only slept 8 hours until 18 weeks, and then not again until he was 2 years old and much heavier

It isn't about weight (despite what some books suggest) but developmental readiness.

No idea of weights, but mine were 11 months and nearly 2 and it was the same time they started to go 11/12 hours.

12kg- he was 2.5 years. Sorry.

6 hours at 4.5 months is pretty good.

15 kg and 2 years old....the other was before age 1, but not that consistently.

Weight has nothing to do with it really, maybe the size of their tiny tummy. And when they're happy to sleep through without waking for cuddles. :)

I'm not sure about weight but mine were all 9 weeks when they slept for 8 hours and 12 hours by 12 weeks. 2 were bottle fed and 1 breast fed and all biggish birth weights.

Dd1 was 4 years old, never slept through until she started school (sorry), dd2 slept through as a newborn but this changed as she got older, she's now 8 years old and rarely sleeps through ( she has Autism ).

Yes, I also didn't find whether or not they needed feeding at night was directly related to sleeping through.

DD has just turned 5 months, weighs about 14lbs (which I think is quite small) and has slept through the whole night since she was 4 weeks and about 8lbs.

6 hours at that age is amazing!!! Mine did 8-12pm then every 2 hours!!

Don't think it's got anything to do with weight. 9kgs and 13 months. 10kgs and 16months. Sounds like you're doing ok

I think weight has bugger all to do with it. DD didn't do 8 hours until 15/16 months and that was only because we intervened and did CC. DS is just six months and has been doing 7-8 hours for a few months, although not necessarily the same 8 hours I'd like to be asleep! He's doing 7-7 now with a dreamfeed and weighs about 16lbs.

I don't think it's anything to do with weight either. DS was around 4 years old, DD only just started sleeping through regularly now at the age of 6. DNephew a much smaller and slimmer baby than either of mine slept 8 hours or so from a couple of weeks old.

Go without being fed? Or without waking?

For feeding:

Dt2 was about six weeks - a (by then) ff guzzler

Dt1 - reflux medicated at four months and no night feeds somewhere in the couple of months after that

DS3 - fully breastfed, about 10 months I think.

As to not waking in the night, 3 and nearly 5 (x2) and we are still waiting for that. I blame DH who lets them in our bed or sleeps with them.

I don't know how much they weighed, but my eldest was about 15 months old before he stopped waking every two hours and far older than that before he went a full night and my youngest slept for long periods at a time from birth. (just not the same periods as my eldest was asleep, but I am convinced this was deliberate on their part to keep me sleep deprived )

They are now 13 & 15 years old and still sometimes wake in the night.

When we got her home we were told not to let her sleep for more than about 4 hours due to her tiny stomach. Now she's the size of a typical 6 week old, I thought she might be big enough to go through the night (if nothing woke her up).

From responses, one or two seem to have managed it from her current weight or a little more but it sounds like her needing one plus the dream feed is quite lucky.

9 weeks. Agree weight isn't alot to do with it. Mine had reflux and took ages to regain he's birth weight.

dd and ds were both about 3 or 4 yrs old before they slept through a whole night - they would wake for a BF in the early hours of the morning before that and then go back to sleep for a nap before breakfast
They've been good sleepers since then though and rarely trouble me nowadays - they're 15 and 12 now

dd would often sleep 6/7 hours as a new born then all went tits up about 4 months. slept properly i.e 12 hours from about 18months.
ds is 5 months and doesn't feed at all in the night but wakes every couple of hours (reflux)

2y 2m - 35lbs - bf

8 weeks

3lb 8oz and she slept 12 hours! Had a hospital appointment the next day and consultant said it was fine although it wouldn't last! It did and she slept 12 hours a night 99.9 % of time since (now 4.6).

She was 6 weeks old at the time -3 weeks corrected

Hi handsoff 7. My cousin was born prematurely, and the advice then was to treat him as though he was the age he would have been if not premature. So in a way she is only 2.5 months. 6 hours sounds not too bad. I think babies vary a lot. She is probably waking for a feed? They usually sleep for longer once they can take some solids, babyrice, or whatever you decide when she's big enough. It does get better believe me! Before you know it she will be driving you to the shops!

Dd1 was about 8 weeks and she slept 12 hrs. She was born at 5.7 so by 8 weeks was probably about 8-9lbs. We were just lucky I think.

10.5 months and about 8kg.
Born at 3kg so the "double their weight" thing didn't hold true.
He is breastfed though so night feeds were no trouble really.

DS was 10 weeks (ebf). DD 12 weeks (mix fed). My advice would be to dream feed eg; wake and feed 3-4 hours after they first go down, so for us it was 10:30-11pm (with ds this was a bf with dd I alternated with dh so bf or bottle). Then the longest stretch is from your bedtime.
