I bet no-one lets their 26month old nap for 2hrs between 1-3pm!

Just that really! 26 month old DD takes 30-45mins to fall asleep in cot. Most days last week she had long nap. Still awake at 9-9.30pm. Yesterday had 10mins in car - asleep by 8! Surely it's a no brainer!! Just need to convince OH & childminder!

How long does your 26 month old nap for?

Depends on the child - one of mine had a 2 hour nap at that age and still slept 7pm-7am - sadly my other 3 dc weren't the same...

MollyMatey · 25/11/2013 21:06

DS slept at least 2 hours in the afternoon until he was 3. At 26 months it was often more like 3 hours.

Gintastic · 25/11/2013 21:11

My nearly 4yo will have a 2 hour nap and still go to bed on time, depends on the child really...

JemimaMuddledUp · 25/11/2013 21:11

Depends on the child. DS1 slept for 2hrs every afternoon until he was at least 3, he still slept 7pm-7am every night without fail. DS2 dropped all daytime naps by the time he was 18 months and still only slept from about 10pm-5.30am. DD was somewhere in between. They are all different, you just need to work out what suits your child.

Shootingstar100 · 25/11/2013 21:11

Oh! Not unusual then! She's still awake, singing Incey Wincey Spider!

DS is 26 months. Some days he doesn't nap at all. Today I was out at work from 12.45 until just after 3.30 and dh reports that he slept for most of that time. He was in bed for the night at 8pm.

Jojay · 25/11/2013 21:13

My twins are 28 months and do just that most days. In bed by 7.30 - 8pm in the evening, no problem.

I know two year olds who don't nap at all though, so whatever works for you.

Ziggyzoom · 25/11/2013 21:14

I always let sleeping babies/children sleep wherever possible. I never find that deliberately depriving them of sleep at one time guarantees that they will sleep when you want them too. They are too clever for that Wink!

MissPlumBroughtALadder · 25/11/2013 21:14

My 26 month old goes to bed sometime between 9 and 9.30 every night, independent of whether he has napped or not. He wakes several times at night then gets up about 8am. He has historically been the most shit sleeper in the history of humankind so we are thrilled with current pattern!

BobaFetaCheese · 25/11/2013 21:16

DS1 is 23m & hasn't napped since he was 20m, he sleeps through from 6-6 (although from about 3pm onwards, he's a ratty bugger).
Good luck getting her to sleep soonish!

Beamur · 25/11/2013 21:16

Mine used to nap for about 2 hours most afternoons. It was great.
Nearly killed me when she decided she didn't need to any more.

MissPlumBroughtALadder · 25/11/2013 21:16

Oh and most of his peers still have long afternoon naps. Only one of my friends has reported her DS dropping his nap completely before three.

Shootingstar100 · 25/11/2013 21:20

Yes it's nice to get on with stuff when they're napping (childminder thinks so anyway Grin). I've always been quite laid back re sleep so I'll just go with it! Think she's just dropping off now!

My 2yo will have a 2 hr afternoon nap most days and still go down at 7 she's very lazy

Norfolknway · 25/11/2013 21:21

My DD is 2.5 and has just recently stopped napping. She sleeps 7:30-7:30 ish.

When she was having her naps, which were not needed til 3:30ish, she wouldn't go off til 9/10 at night.

No more napping! If she says she's tired, she can snooze - she sometimes does in the car.

BrianButterfield · 25/11/2013 21:22

DS is that age and sleeps for two hours in the afternoon in the right conditions! Then he goes to sleep at 7.30. We all have a better time when he has a long sleep.

DreamingOfAFullNightsSleep · 25/11/2013 21:23

me, me. If my DD napped 1-3 she was up til 10pm. Gave up her nap entirely at 23 months, Gutted I was !

My 19 month old twins are looking the same. I'm limiting one to one hour nap, before 1pm. Then he'll go to bed at 7 and sometimes sleep through, often not still. The other is a shit, shit sleeper, and no limiting from me, but the same or less!!!!

NoUseForAName · 25/11/2013 21:24

Ds sleeps 12.30/1 til 2.30 most days

Figgygal · 25/11/2013 21:24

23mo doesn't nap these days unless he's out in the car then sleeps 7/7.30-anything between 6.30 and 8.

Shootingstar100 · 25/11/2013 21:24

That's the thing -awake til 9.30pm then when I get her up at 6.30 am she's grumpy. Maybe she's sleeping in afternoon to make up for not enough night time sleep so we're in a vicious circle?!

DD still napped for about 1.5 to 2 hours a day from about 1pm until she was nearly 4 (apart from 2 days a week when she was at preschool and sometimes at weekends).

DS1 stopped naps at 2, but could occasionally have a nap but still go to bed at a reasonable hour.

DS2 stopped having a nap more often than not when he was about 18 months to 2yrs. But still occasionally conked out on the sofa at 1pm isn. And still does. Unfortunately if he does, he tends to go to bed very late. But it doesn't really bother me. If I can head it off at the pass I will, but if he's genuinely knackered (aged just 4) then I'll let him sleep.

My nephew is 3. DB and SIL recently binned the nap because they wanted him to sleep longer at night. The result was that he was an overtired mess at 6pm after nursery and started waking up at silly o'clock (4am). He's back to having naps at nursery and maybe goes to bed slightly later but sleeps for longer in the morning.

pegster · 25/11/2013 21:25

My 2.2yo DS still naps for around 2 hours after lunch. Then he sleeps soundly from roughly 7.30 to 7.30. I have a 4wo baby and am using his nap time as my window for a sleep too, dreading him dropping it!

AnAdventureInCakeAndWine · 25/11/2013 21:27

My first two were napping for that long at that time; DC3 gave up naps at just-turned-two and it was a horrible shock (although ten months later she does occasionally nap in the car or if she's had an unsettled night).

Valpollicella · 25/11/2013 21:27

Until DS was 3.5 yo he used to sleep from 2pm - 4.30pm and then go to bed at 7.30pm

Smug as that sounds I was always very grateful! Used to fit an episode of ER in and then a nap myself :D

Shootingstar100 · 25/11/2013 21:28

Pegster I don't blame you - did the same on Saturday.

I also tried no nap in the summer (once) & ended up with overtired mess!! Think no nap at all would be a mistake!!

Asleep now! SmileSmile
