After three attempts to leave a message on this thread I have to start again.

Codswallop - you still have the hacking bronchial cough to come and total loss of interest in food to come. I'm sure it won't be long before DS2 catches another cold.

We were going to sleep in the lounge last night, got the inflatable bed out ready and then discovered the pump wasn't charged and which point we threw our hands in the air and went back to bed. He woke at 4am, bfight eyed and bushy tailed.

Ded at 10pm and then slept till 6am - Hurrah, the nasty mummy leaving him to cry seems to have had an effect!!

Crap crap crap weekend. Dd has been a pain in the backside. She used to sleep well and now wakes up 3,4 or 5 times a night and has HUGE tantrum when we put her to bed at 7pm, takes around 45 mins to get her to go to sleep. When I eventually pick her up to calm her, she points down the corridor towards the other rooms as if she wants to get out of her room. V bizarre. At end of tether on Saturday as dh was out at the footy and I wanted to go out and leave her to cry. She isn't teething - that I am aware of - and has got rid of her cold, so what is it? All advice gratefully received .

Coddy, do you mean what do I do in general hopeless parenting terms with less than perfect sleeper, or do to earn cash? I am, ahem, a freelance journalist. I do some in-house stuff for various charities and the like (that's what this afternoon's meeting was for) and also write for various magazines, newspapers, etc.

I am NOT India Knight.

princesspeahead · 04/11/2003 21:34

oooh, are you zoe heller? I love her, she makes me laugh. and she has small children...

motherinferior · 05/11/2003 07:59

No, I'm one of those people you occasionally see writing about things like smacking children, or food quality (or, indeed, shamingly, '20 ways to lose half a stone'or Women Who Live in an Environmentally Friendly Way, or mixed-race parenting...that sort of thing.

And I had a truly horrible night, in which I fed babe and am now wondering whether she needs more food of some sort, either weaning or stuffing more expressed milk in the day or whether indeed I am just doomed to this, and what to do about the dummy and how in hell I can summon enough energy to do some * WORK.

motherinferior · 05/11/2003 08:00

Zoe Heller was a couple of years below me at university. She used to write 'provocative' pieces about how the feminists in the Wimmins Centre made passes at her. As if.

codswallop · 05/11/2003 08:50

LOl Mi yes thats what I meant - cant you write abook based on this thread ?_ you could make us all much wittier than we are and with scintillating lifestyles.(well pph has one but I dont)

I have an a idea for a film based on my experiences doing Young offender mentoring. Hm is there a thread there?

Miles woke up coughing at some oclock and we all swapped beds and Charlie had a quick drink at blank oclock apart from that fine. Miles off nursery again - money down drain

motherinferior · 05/11/2003 09:04

I could be taller and glamorous and better with lipstick

DD1 used to zonk for 12 hours at this age. Mind you she woke up too last night.

I think it may be time for sleep training soon.

codswallop · 05/11/2003 09:05

so there you are - a whole book. You could go on richard and Judy

Beccarollo · 05/11/2003 09:06

Horrible horrible horrible night - dont think ive been to sleep yet as he is still v unsettled from jabs. DP ended up moving to the living room abotu 3am (b***d!) he dropped off about 6 and slept for a bit and seems a bit better now so TOUCH WOOD he will be ok now

codswallop · 05/11/2003 09:12

what happened with the crying last night int he end then?

oliveoil · 05/11/2003 09:12

dd was one a couple of weeks ago. Not toooo bad a night, she feel asleep in my arms at 6.30pm (v cute) slept till 2 then awake again at 4, then up at 7. Would LOVE a stretch of sleep of more than 4 hours.

I tried cutting down on daytime naps (has around 3 hours) but MIL doesn't agree, I found out via dh, grrrrrrr.

I think the problem is that she goes to sleep on her side then flicks onto tummy and can't get off her tummy. Looks like a skydiver - head, arms and legs up in the air and screaming. Can you teach them to roll?!!??

Beccarollo · 05/11/2003 09:14

It carried on til the early hours with him having like 2 minute catnaps in the sling or in my arms - poor bugger hope it doesnt happen on the next jabs

codswallop · 05/11/2003 12:06

Br sounds like my ds3 on Sunday with hte cold,

Olibve Oil i know - seems to go on for ever. Put a chocolate button on the other side of hte cot - that ll get them rolling!

Beccarollo · 05/11/2003 12:13

Think he must be feeling better now and seems to be catching up with his sleep he went for a nap at about 9 which normally lasts about half an hour and he is still there!!!

oliveoil · 05/11/2003 12:14

Shouldn't you be sleeping then?

Beccarollo · 05/11/2003 12:16

I wish!! Been doing the washing up, washing tidying round etc that I couldnt do last night and Im sure dd (4) would be a bit miffed if i took to bed when there were Betty Spaggettis to build and baby annabel to feed etc

kaz33 · 05/11/2003 20:14

5am this morning and did not want to go back to sleep - ahh well

OP posts:
oliveoil · 06/11/2003 09:05

Bed at 7, woke up by fireworks at 8 then sleep till 3 and then 7! Not bad for the little tyke.

pumpkin2 · 06/11/2003 10:06

Well so much for my 'he only sleeps 4 1/2hrs at a a time' theory - bed at 11.00 after last feed then slept till 5.45!!!!!
I am sure however that this is a one off and in fact he is playing baby psychological mind games with me - wants me to spend the entire day trying to figure out what I did yesterday to cause this miracle then try to replicate it - and he will go back to a 3am wake up tonight regardless!
Starting to get a tad paranoid here? He is after all a baby not the head of SMERSH......

Beccarollo · 06/11/2003 10:14

had a good night but i think it must have been recovering from screaming after jabs he slept nearly all day yesterday, fed at 8pm went to sleep i fed him again at 10.30 he went through til 4.30 am then through til 8

im feeling quite refreshed this morning

kaz33 · 06/11/2003 11:55

AH well - up at 2am, left to put himself back to sleep, up at 4.30am and finally up for the day at 6.20am

OP posts:
codswallop · 06/11/2003 13:17
