Just over 4 months till we are off, hurray! Going to Chatel with Snowfocus, have been a couple of times before and we love it. Was pregnant this year so gave skiing a miss but so looking forward to getting DS(3) on skis for the first time.

lovetoskimum · 30/11/2016 14:51

Hi guys I'm back!! 😄😄

Couple of weeks of job hunting!!

How's everyone doing with excitement and getting fit?

Can't contain my excitement!! Snow is good at the moment ! Upped my run length to 5.5 miles, need to push to six! Still got my eye on that jacket !! 😄😄😄

We're going to Les Gets in Jan! Starting to dig out ski gear!
We need to get:
Probably some cheap spare salopettes for DD who is 2 1/2 and thinks she is potty trained. Plan is to suggest nursery put her back in nappies but knowing her she'll refuse! She has most other things from DS but maybe some hats/gloves from Next that have done us well.
Base layer and basically everything for DS. I want to get a down jacket and some decent salopettes - have my eye on some Polarn ones on eBay- where's good for reasonable down jackets?

Going to start looking up the cross country trails for me!

After next year I just don't know. DS is not compulsory school age this year but I can't ever take half term from work. Sometimes I can take the first week of the school term so it's whether we want to explain ourselves to school.

Or the alternative is Scandinavia in the Easter holidays.

dontcallmethatyoucunt · 08/12/2016 09:25

Scandinavia at Easter is where we are heading for 2018. The only downside that I could see is that the lesson time is short, but our DD's will be 7 and 9 by then so not such an issue.

We have also had very good easter conditions in Tignes and Cervinia. Worth a look as both are high with lots of skiing above the melt line (2500m in my experience). The skiing for little ones is good at both. Not sure about cross country... think that would certainly be better in Scandi.

drspouse · 08/12/2016 10:32

Good to know dont. Looks like the Easter holiday 2018 starts in March so maybe we could go for high altitude, and then if Easter is later another year I could introduce the idea of Norway then. I will have to take some more downhill lessons, I suppose!

I would really like to go in 2018 as it would be DD's first actual ski holiday - she'll have had 3 years of nursery and it seems a bit unfair to pull the rug away after this year!

drspouse · 08/12/2016 10:38

(Hmm naughtily I just checked and it looks cheaper if we again took DS out for week 1 of the school term... y1 term 2... I know you lot won't judge!)

dontcallmethatyoucunt · 08/12/2016 17:58

I can't face the one to one interview with the headteacher if we skip school!

lovetoskimum · 13/12/2016 17:50

Omg, don't, you have a one to one??? God awful!!!

We just fill out form and accept the fine!!

Snow is looking mighty fine at the moment!!

Only thing getting me through and the moment, still no luck with jobs and daughter was in hospital all week last week, back home on the mend, so streefull!!

The mountains are calming me down xx

Oops! So stressful!!

dontcallmethatyoucunt · 13/12/2016 19:56

Oh goodness that doesn't sound good loveto I hope she's on the mend.

I think the one to one cuts out more absence than any fine. Awful. I've done it once and don't have the balls Grin

drspouse · 14/12/2016 12:34

I'm not sure if we'd have a one to one, we did have a chat with the HT this time but that's because she was standing there when we filled in the form, but she's lovely anyway!

drspouse · 14/12/2016 12:38

Anyway almost all ski gear for the DCs has now been bought, mainly from Aldi, DS is keen to wear his ski socks, he can wear them tomorrow to go on his Reception outing to a muddy farm with his wellies.

dotdash · 14/12/2016 13:48

Can I join please? DS is going on a school trip at the end of March. We're driving down to collect him and then having a week of family skiing, can't wait!
Apartment, eurotunnel and hotels are booked. Just need some trousers for DS and gloves for me.

tinabina · 14/12/2016 20:07

Might be useful - I've just HIRED all our ski clothing - adults and kids - from skismart online. Have had it all sent to me for test fitting - a free service - and it's all 'known' branded stuff like Helly Hansen.
Best bit is you send it back to them dirty after use - no need to wash it all when you come home!

Radiatorvalves · 15/12/2016 14:04

Hello everyone - it's been a while.

Has anyone seen Ed Leigh on line doing his 3 days in the southern French Alps. It has really got me in the mood! Today he was in Vars on a piste I know really well. Oooh, can't wait. We are off in about 2 weeks. Despite all the worry about poor snow, it looked really good there. We were in Vars last New Year and it was so rubbish. Stripes of snow in the grass - this year it is looking a lot better.

drspouse · 15/12/2016 16:49

I'm a bit nervous about our trip - I have managed in previous years to get a reasonable amount of exercise in (tried starting running one year, and didn't do too badly) but this year I feel I've just had one cold and cough after another so am really unfit.

My new year's resolution is to go for a bike ride and a swim each week up to the number of years I will be old, so (as I'm creaky and ancient) that will be nearly every week. I'm going to try to start before Christmas but still feel a bit rubbish at the moment!

PetraDelphiki · 15/12/2016 18:38

13 days to go....off to the Dolomites for the 5th time (or so)...

dontcallmethatyoucunt · 15/12/2016 18:43

5 days for me. I'm packed and can't wait slightly unbearable

IsletsOfLangerhans · 17/12/2016 20:43

PetraDelphiki - where are you going? Love the Dolomites all year round...

PetraDelphiki · 18/12/2016 09:39

Badia at new year and corvara at half term...love it!!!

IsletsOfLangerhans · 18/12/2016 14:41

Lucky you!!

dontcallmethatyoucunt · 19/12/2016 20:21

394cm so far in whistler (only 28cm in the last 12hrs though). I am now beyond excited!

Mouthofmisery · 19/12/2016 20:24

Pregnant this year.
Angry

LIZS · 27/12/2016 17:34

Glad we didn't bother for Christmas/NY. The resorts we would have considered have got very little snow even at altitude and warm forecasts which mean even artificial snowmaking is limited. Friends living there are reporting worst season in ages, and last season was not great either.
