hasn't this gone far enough? these threads are being allowed to stand which considering the "policies" of the BNP and the views expressed by "activists" is appalling. yes, free speech is wonderful, but some of these threads can be seen as inciting racial hatred, there are many, many, disablist, homophobic, racist remarks made and implied and they always go the same way. the threads are started to cause a bunfight. the BNP will not get anymore supporters on here, so why be deliberately controversial?

mn is a self-moderated site. this is great and one of the reasons i use it. however, the mners are now moderating and saying that we have had enough. we have complained a LOT about this type of thing - please take note!

Dp, it IS true that you highjack threads and post comments just to wind people up!!! You say you need a break, well we need a break from you!

ConDemNation · 12/05/2010 17:29

It's not the views, it's the way it is done. Totally disingenuous.

I would understand dp taking it personally if someone posted a thread entitled 'DP is a homophobic wanker'

but I don't think anyone has yet. sadly

pagwatch · 12/05/2010 17:29

lou
I am discussing the issue only

memoo · 12/05/2010 17:30

I started a thread the other day saying that people should be ashamed of voted BNP and it was immediately deleted! I can't say Boo but DP gets away with spouting all kinds of nasty bigoted stuff

daftpunk · 12/05/2010 17:31

memoo;;

I hijack threads...?

Ok, I wasn't aware of that..I will try and do something about it..

I don't want to annoy anyone.

elliemental · 12/05/2010 17:31

I find it quite comforting that these threads are started and only one person on them seems to be pro-BNP. It makes me realise these views are NOT widely-held.

However, spouting your opinions under the guise of politics is one thing. Constantly spouting hatred/ignorance against homosexuals/disabled/SENs/people of different races is quite another.

memoo I think I saw that, couldn't understand why we can't be anti BNP on her, yet have a look and there are threads slagging off the tories and labour.

hairymelons · 12/05/2010 17:33

There's no debate though is there?

It's an offensive/ provocative statement followed up by..nothing.

It would be nice if we could all ignore this attention seeking rubbish but unfortunately, the it causes real hurt to real people, so it can't be ignored.

the it was a typo btw

MalsFlannel · 12/05/2010 17:37

You're so unconvincing DP

you have become a parody of yourself

Go and re-read some of your threads since the new year. Read how upset you have made people. You won't do this I know, but you've had your chips here I think.

ChickensNeedOpposableThumb · 12/05/2010 17:37

Yes, seems an odd standpoint from MNHQ

2shoes · 12/05/2010 17:38

riven I think you are right(but think you missed out a word,)

hairymelons · 12/05/2010 17:38

Yes but Riven she doesn't want to annoy anyone so it's ok

callmeDave · 12/05/2010 17:41

I have got a lot of support from this site in the past. I have had problems with racist bullying and my youngest is under assessment for CP.

The fact that any thread I start can be hijacked by DP and my children can be slagged off and I have no comeback has put me off posting about some of these issues. I can ignore the threads that she starts but not the ones I start.

I am sick of being told to 'get over it' when she has said something about non white and/or disabled people.

pagwatch · 12/05/2010 17:42

but I think the trouble is I could post saying

'I have heard that mostly people who support the BNP are those who are into beastiality but have been rejected by the pig they were dating on the grounds that they are neither clean enough nor bright enough'
and people could argue with me but my post doesn't actually consititute an attack does it?

It is the maner of postings that make sweeping statements about particular groups that causes the problem.

you asked how i/we would feel if the roles were reversed.

I would be mortified and ashamed that my posts had caused so much hurt and outrage that there is a thread that is asking for such threads to be banned and for my exclusion.

Would a thread called

"In my personal opinion people who join the BNP are likely to...." be deleted?

patienceplease · 12/05/2010 17:47

I agree OP.

2shoes · 12/05/2010 17:47

try it paggy

Kaloki · 12/05/2010 17:47

Just wanted to say, although I agree with asking for those threads to be deleted and for offensive members to be banned.

It does, whether we like it or not, go against the kind of MN ethos of the site being self moderated. So I can understand why they aren't keen to start down that route.

Hopefully they will find some way of dealing with this though, because it is getting more extreme.
