hasn't this gone far enough? these threads are being allowed to stand which considering the "policies" of the BNP and the views expressed by "activists" is appalling. yes, free speech is wonderful, but some of these threads can be seen as inciting racial hatred, there are many, many, disablist, homophobic, racist remarks made and implied and they always go the same way. the threads are started to cause a bunfight. the BNP will not get anymore supporters on here, so why be deliberately controversial?

mn is a self-moderated site. this is great and one of the reasons i use it. however, the mners are now moderating and saying that we have had enough. we have complained a LOT about this type of thing - please take note!

Any apology then dp, for all the upset and offence you have caused?

ConDemNation · 12/05/2010 17:17

Lenin, the last few weeks I've thought that it's a bit like watching someone come undone.

ConDemNation · 12/05/2010 17:18

Some of us feel we cannot ignore; we feel the statements made need to be challenged. It is very hard work tbh.

ignoring is not an option.

2shoes · 12/05/2010 17:18

ConDemNation I know, but I think naming people just allows them to make it "oh woe it is me"
reminds me of school, the school bully was like that when the tables were turned.

2shoes · 12/05/2010 17:19

what riven said

ConDemNation · 12/05/2010 17:19

Riven, no it wasn't - people should see the first one she started! That was supposed to be her second, non offensive try

daftpunk · 12/05/2010 17:20

LG;

I wasn't talking about you...I've explained all this to you...I thought you understood...

When people start threads about catholics all being mental I don't take it personally..

I see what you mean 2shoes. She'd do it anyway I suppose..but we could all ignore her. I thought you were doing something clever there but couldn't quite assimilate it, this afternoon

ConDemNation · 12/05/2010 17:22

Nobody has started a thread about Catholics all being mental, though.

smallorange · 12/05/2010 17:22

The banning argument is persuasive.

But.

I just wonder- will it set a precedent? Will we get together and ban other people for racist/ homophobic views, which let's face it, are held by a significant minority, albeit in a less defined way than the policies of the BNP.

You go to a local pub where I grew up and these views sre there. And are not considered shameful.

However the it is annoying when threads just become about DP.

but this isn't the local pub.
it is a parenting forum
supposed to be here to support parents, not the BNP

pagwatch · 12/05/2010 17:24

That is the crux of it really ConDemNation isn't it?

ignoring risks being seen as not challenging

responding makes it even worse

seeking to ban certian types of posters risks the 'poor me' victim response.

But actually the dreary dunderheaded nature of the postings themselves make responding seem like dignifying the turd.

I have tended towards the last option - always think you shouldn't argue with a drunk or an idiot - it gives them ideas above their station. But the endless line of mean spirited posts is becoming a fetid stench bunging up the whole board

ConDemNation · 12/05/2010 17:24

i don't think I'd mind other people wanting to discuss BNP type stuff, as long as they did it within the site rules. But DP is a troll. She doesn't debate. She trolls.

That's the difference...I agree with free speech but not free trolling.

daftpunk · 12/05/2010 17:25

There have been threads about the pope titled "the pope is a homophobic wanker"

I found that offensive, but I just ignored it.

ConDemNation · 12/05/2010 17:26

Very good post, Paggy.

Alouiseg · 12/05/2010 17:26

If nobody posts on these threads then they drop off and no one sees them.

If something is offensive then the worst thing to do is keep commenting on it.

I would hate to see censorship on mn.

that was about the pope, not you.

lou031205 · 12/05/2010 17:27

I think this is getting a bit too personal now. Can people stick to discussing the issue? DP is just expressing the views of 1.9% of the voting population. Totalling a scary 563,743 voters. We can hate those views (and I do), but we have to acknowledge that they exist.

MalsFlannel · 12/05/2010 17:27

Too late DP. Too damn late. You've caused too much aggro and pain. Why should anyone extend any courtesy to you when you have hit posters around the head with your bile for the last...god knows how long.

Enough. Just go away and plague somewhere else.

2shoes · 12/05/2010 17:28

i can't ignore the fact that mn hq allow posts supporting a "party" that thinks my dd should be dead.
