Fancy working at MNHQ? Tech job...

YetMoreTech · 04/01/2010 12:49

Fancy working at MNHQ? We've got an opening in the fabulous tech team.

The job is at our office in Kentish Town, London NW5. We're pretty flexible wherever possible, but it is office and office-hours based.

We're looking for someone with in-depth knowledge and demonstrable experience in:

HTML
CSS
Javascript

Some knowledge of:

Photoshop (or similar)
Building front ends of database driven websites
General Mac and PC admin

And ideally would also have some knowledge of:

SQL databases
Linux
Bash or Perl or Ruby or PHP (or better yet, all 4, since we use them all)
Server-side Java

We have lovely offices, nice shiny Mac computers and pay a competitive salary. However, best of all is that you'll be exposed to quite a wide range of technology. Rather than only working on the front end you'll get to learn about the technology behind a busy database driven website. And you can potentially get your hands dirty with things like server-side Java, Flash programming, mobile web stuff, social networking integration and so on.

Send a CV (in plain text or PDF - No Word documents please) to [email protected] and include a note telling us why you'd be perfect for the job.

You need to give a clear outline of the job description to include all duties and responsibilities

whomovedmychocolate · 04/01/2010 22:41

Nowt wrong with shitty macs

I managed to crash my Blackberry today. I am proud to be a crap Windoze user in the day who comes home and plays with fruit (Apples and Blackberries mostly!)

Excuse me yetmoretech (or whoever OP was), does the job come with free coffee? I'm not interested yet, describe the snacks. Is there a pointy haired boss?

DuelingFanjo · 04/01/2010 23:00

are you an equal opportunities employer

octothechildherder · 04/01/2010 23:01

With all things equal, and me being equally crap with computers, I'm onto a winner

FluffyForLifeNotJustForXmas · 05/01/2010 00:10

Would you like a lovely, hard working law graduate instead? naff all experience in your area but willing to learn

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/01/2010 07:25

Do you not want a weather girl? I could do forecasts on mntv

TheMollyRogerAndTheIvy · 05/01/2010 08:48

I can crash macs with the power of my PMT (true)

And I am fluent in Java, Illey, Greggs, Quinoa, and Primani.
Working knowledge of Gale Force 3, Lima, Dogger, Farquar, Herringbone, dodecahedron and Doilies.

Am going on a course covering butterdish 87 and can get by in mandarin and clementine.

Do I get the job?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/01/2010 10:49

I don't know any clementine. Only a smattering of satsuma and thats so Basic.

2010aQuintessentialOdyssey · 05/01/2010 12:05

mmm, I make a mean Tiaramavindaloo!

TheArsenicCupCake · 05/01/2010 12:50

I'll raise the stakes to lots of photoshop, flash dreamweaver, illustrator type stuff

a bit of java, css and html

no admin tho and I really don't want to move

If you ever have a 'pretty' job.. to work from home let me know

crumpet · 05/01/2010 13:19

Are all potential applicants nervously scanning their posting history - will too many AIBUs mean disqualification?

TheMollyRogerAndTheIvy · 05/01/2010 13:43

I'd love to be a fly on the wall at the interviews.
''Ah yes, mingycupcake. I see from your MN history that you were once rather unreasonable about parent/toddler parking and that your hobbies include lentil-weaving and grape-stealing. And you once changed your posting name to TechsItUpTheBumOnFridays....''

AddictedtoCrunchies · 05/01/2010 15:29

MollyRoger - funniest post ever. Madarin and clementine. That was a snort tea on the keyboard moment.

bluesuedepews · 05/01/2010 20:26

Oh sorry didn't come back. For ages and ages now I've had to log in every time It takes at least 30 seconds and it irritates me I keep forgetting my Elvis names this week and doing it wrong.

QandA · 05/01/2010 21:11

Mollyroger, I hope you have now gone and taken that nickname, you could sell it back to the successful applicant

NormaStanleyFletcher · 05/01/2010 22:31

I would love this job

But I am an analyst not a tech (my current job title is 'subject matter expert' which makes me giggle)

The one thing out of all of that I know anything about is sql, and that extends to writing really basic queries and views

but then my new job is ok.

it just has no internet access

I am guessing I probably would be able to access MN if I was working for MN

BecauseImWorthIt · 05/01/2010 22:50

I was just wondering though, if you work at MNHQ, what do you do for your displacement activity? It couldn't be MNing, as that would be work.

MollyRoger · 06/01/2010 12:09

QandA, I have a shed full of tech-nicknames...

BIWI - rofl!

FlightAttendant · 06/01/2010 13:55

I fancy it, but I would break it

No talent

muminthecity · 06/01/2010 21:41

Would love to work for MN - I already work next door to MNHQ and often occasionally peer through the windows and wonder what's going on in there. I even got to meet Gordon Brown when he came to visit. However, I haven't the vaguest idea what those weird looking acronyms in the OP are, so I'm guessing this isn't the job for me. Ah well, I guess I'll just have to stay on the other side of the window for now

gaelicsheep · 06/01/2010 22:24

I am very heartened to see that I understand all the terms used in the advert - my job's been a steep learning curve! That's as far as it goes though. I'm used to having other people do the techy stuff for me and I analyse stuff at the front end. Can do lots of SQL queries but haven't a clue about SQL database administration. Good thing too really, I wouldn't move back to London for anything I'm afraid.
