Fancy working at MNHQ? Tech job...

YetMoreTech · 04/01/2010 12:49

Fancy working at MNHQ? We've got an opening in the fabulous tech team.

The job is at our office in Kentish Town, London NW5. We're pretty flexible wherever possible, but it is office and office-hours based.

We're looking for someone with in-depth knowledge and demonstrable experience in:

HTML
CSS
Javascript

Some knowledge of:

Photoshop (or similar)
Building front ends of database driven websites
General Mac and PC admin

And ideally would also have some knowledge of:

SQL databases
Linux
Bash or Perl or Ruby or PHP (or better yet, all 4, since we use them all)
Server-side Java

We have lovely offices, nice shiny Mac computers and pay a competitive salary. However, best of all is that you'll be exposed to quite a wide range of technology. Rather than only working on the front end you'll get to learn about the technology behind a busy database driven website. And you can potentially get your hands dirty with things like server-side Java, Flash programming, mobile web stuff, social networking integration and so on.

Send a CV (in plain text or PDF - No Word documents please) to [email protected] and include a note telling us why you'd be perfect for the job.

SeperatedButStillCaring · 04/01/2010 17:30

Do you have any system testing roles?

I'll raise my first bug now (free of charge!)

Incident No. 1.
When viewing the YourDetails page in the "Last Name" field shows the code
$member.Lastname.

I'm sure I could do that job, (even though I didn?t understand half of the words in the OP) but have some important questions before I even consider applying:

  1. Is coffee in constant supply?
  2. What biscuits are available?
  3. Who is responsible for buying milk etc (cos if it?s me I am really good at forgetting to buy it)?
  4. What holidays can I have?
  5. What hours do I need to do and what arrangements are there for if these hours interfere with my other activities?
  6. Do I get a clothing allowance?
  7. Can I have Days off during the week?
  8. I assume I get to state the salary I would need to live up to the image of working at MNHQ?

Thanks for your time. When do I start?
BTW: I will not work in any old sheds!

reallywoundup · 04/01/2010 18:26

this does throw up a few problems for me, although working at MNHQ would be my life long ambition fulfilled (just think of all the fun you could have with the delete button )

  1. I am in Wales, have no desire to move and if i left the train station here at 5.30 am i would arrive somewhere in London around 4.25pm- i am guessing that doesn't count as office hours (bearing in mind that if i left London at 5 pm ish i would return home at 5.30am! would a half hour day suffice??

  2. i am computer illiterate and looking at the op makes my head spin- would you provide me with some very basic training?

  3. Would i have full control of the MNHQ trolldar and the delete button?

  4. Would i have to wear Boden every day?

  5. a CV????? i think i did one back at school, haven't needed one since (i was headhunter dontcha know!) more to the point sending my CV in WHAT? pdf or plain text- does that not mean typing it in word?

StarlightWonderStarlightBright · 04/01/2010 19:16

I'm only applying if I'm allowed to decorate the site!

RockBird · 04/01/2010 19:20

I can do HTML

Which actually sounds like your best offer so far!

DH and I both have the required knowledge (he much more than me) but he reckons it'd be a paycut for either of us.

Any clues as to how competitive a salary?

MuppetsMuggle · 04/01/2010 19:40

I've let my DP know as he was hoping to job hunt this year.
Is there a closing date for the email?

MuppetsMuggle · 04/01/2010 19:41

He does all of the above.

What is the salary like?

YetMoreTech · 04/01/2010 19:54

No closing date - just until we find someone good.

I won't discuss the salaries on here, out of respect for the person that ends up getting the job. I would say as a guideline that the ideal candidate will probably have been working in IT for a couple of years and the pay will reflect that.

NorkyButNice · 04/01/2010 19:57

Fair comment re salary!

Reasonable to say that I should take my 10 years banking IT experience and be on my way though

YetMoreTech · 04/01/2010 20:00

NorkyButNice, fair enough. Interestingly MNHQ have (or have had) 3 people with more than 10 years banking IT experience each, but circumstances vary greatly and certainly the salary won't compete.

OP posts:
MuppetsMuggle · 04/01/2010 20:07

So my DP 10yrs+ being a software engineer would be taken into consideration thats good

NorkyButNice · 04/01/2010 20:08

I'm not surprised actually - I'd much rather work for MN than do my current job! But have unfortunately just taken on a mammoth mortgage so will have to keep nose to painful grindstone for now.

Out of interest, do you advertise roles off-board as well?

LibrasBiscuitsOfFortune · 04/01/2010 20:42

I would have applied but apparently working would be detrimental to my abilities to be a good mother so I will have to decline at the moment.

Mamazon · 04/01/2010 20:45

so seeing as i have instructions nect ti my light switch i guess i shant bother sending my CV in

Kentish town? IS like Kent Ish or is it a real place?!

How many techs are there in that shed now?!

sowhatitsonlysnow · 04/01/2010 21:37

I'd LOVE to, but the commute (& my lack of experience) will count me out

whomovedmychocolate · 04/01/2010 21:42

Ha ha you can't afford me!

QOD · 04/01/2010 22:12

Can you say it all again in words of one syllable or less cos then it might make sense.
TIA

X

OhForGodsSake · 04/01/2010 22:13

why no word thing?
is that cos you all have shitty macs?
LOL

octothechildherder · 04/01/2010 22:23

And ideally would also have some knowledge of:

fruit shoots
breastfeeding
illegal cloth nappy selling
cake making
biscuit choices
acronyms
expletives
poor health symptoms
pregnancy symptoms
potty training skills
long haul travel

Oh and being able to type with child on lap or boob

MrsWeasley · 04/01/2010 22:27

I'm still hopeful
