How will the proposed private rooms work?

LilyBolero · 15/08/2009 22:05

In the light of the DM stuff, I imagine MNHQ will be looking to get the private rooms sorted out quickly. So I wondered how they would run? Will it be a case of a single user opening a room and then inviting people to join them? Or will it be possible to request an invite?

How will you avoid narnia type incidents?

This is what Justine said in april

"NB we are looking at setting up a facility for private support groups in MyMumsnet, away from the main talk boards. This, we think, would be helpful for many but it may take a couple of months to sort as it's fairly complicated from a technical perspective.
Best,
MNHQ "

You're in then Stinky.

NervousNutty · 15/08/2009 23:32

FGS what the hell is happening to this site ? It seems like it is coming apart at the seams.

2shoes · 15/08/2009 23:32

MamazontheDailyMailtakingadump you'll be ok as you can join my "smoking outside a meet up" one, even though you don't smoke

KingCanuteIAmAndTheDMCanFOff · 15/08/2009 23:35

Nutty, it always falls apart at the seams - only to come back together looking remarkably similar to before the fall out!

thedailyfemale · 15/08/2009 23:38

oh sod it. I have a new name and I need somewhere to try it out

NervousNutty · 15/08/2009 23:38

Thats is very true, though I worry sometimes that this site is getting way too big for it's boots.

AholaLoadOfTrouble · 15/08/2009 23:39

But if its invite only I'll never be allowed in, no one knows me. If I have to keep changing my name then no one at will know me.

I know who you all are though [eveil grin]

KingCanuteIAmAndTheDMCanFOff · 15/08/2009 23:42

Well that is one of the problems, if everyone changes names then no-one knows anyone, great on some levels, terrible on others.

Nutty, possibly, I am reserving judgement at the moment

AholaLoadOfTrouble · 15/08/2009 23:51

Part of why MN works so well is that 'knowing people' bit. Tis very hard to have a conversation with someone you don't know in RL, it just doesn't flow.

I like to know who is giving me advice, then I know to read as gospel everything that Hunker and Ticktock say on the bf threads, and likewise Aitch on the BLW threads.

LilyBolero · 16/08/2009 00:00

Just going back a bit, am loving the idea of MNHQ giving up and going scuba diving!!! Fabulous image!

I don't believe it after all the mouldiegate stuff and people are now seriously thinking this is a good idea?

Aloha (sorry don't know her new name) was very much liked and trusted so how would this help?

oh and while we're at it what was the Mohze thing? was she a troll? she just disappeared and I've wondered what heppened she posted so much identifiable stuff on here it wouldn't have taken much to find her IRL

StinkyFart · 16/08/2009 00:15

I think Mohze was a troll, I refuse to believe that anyone could leave their baby in SCBU to go Scuba ( did you see what I did there, did ya, did ya?)

LilyBolero · 16/08/2009 00:16

The questions I would like to know are;

Who will be able to see the rooms and what will they be able to see? (i.e. will people outside the rooms be able to see i) the existence of the room but not the users, ii) the users in the room but not the content or iii) the users and content?

Who will control entry to the room and what form will this control take (ie invites or requests to join which may be accepted or declined)?

Who will moderate the rooms to avoid them being used as bitchfests or vipers' nests?

muggglewump · 16/08/2009 00:19

I think that this is promoting another Mouldiegate.

Perhaps that's what's intended?

After all, it got a lot of publicity last time........

scottishmummy · 16/08/2009 00:22

invitation only thread = Modie by any other name

FiveGoMadInDorset · 16/08/2009 00:22

beanieb · 16/08/2009 00:23

What if someone invites a journalist?

what if someone invites a daily Mail Journalist?

beanieb · 16/08/2009 00:24

clearly it's a rediculous idea and it will never happen

beanieb · 16/08/2009 00:24

ridiculous

blinks · 16/08/2009 00:25

i feel soiled thinking about inviting someone into a private room over the internet.

tis unseemly

scottishmummy · 16/08/2009 00:28

given it is all words on a screen, how does one personalise that

JustineMumsnet · 16/08/2009 00:28

Our thought was to offer private, non google-indexed, password protected boards around subject groups - eg miscarriage, special needs, bereavement, cancer sufferers, lone parents, relationship breakdown etc etc

Anyone member could set one up and be the admin. You'd apply to join. They would be subject to the same rules re personal attacks.

Obviously it's not complete protection but it's will give folks a a non public board to discuss more private stuff with folks around particular, perhaps more sensitive topics.

Do post any thoughts on what you'd like/ wouldn't like - we're at the very early stages of development so everything can be considered.

beanieb · 16/08/2009 00:30

protection from what?

the Daily Mail or Google?

What wouldn't I like? I wouldn't like it if I applied to koin and was turned down.
