How will the proposed private rooms work?

In the light of the DM stuff, I imagine MNHQ will be looking to get the private rooms sorted out quickly. So I wondered how they would run? Will it be a case of a single user opening a room and then inviting people to join them? Or will it be possible to request an invite?

How will you avoid narnia type incidents?

Would you want to be in both Breastfeeding and Teenagers?

Unless you're breastfeeding your teenagers of course.

Private Rooms?!?! Seriously???

I did snigger at last night's "closed for essential maintenance" which I took to mean "we want a break from having to monitor daily mail threads

Narnia thing involved google and cached threads. I don't even know what that means. Basically was a mechanism to post without being seen by those not in the know, I gather.

I may have got completely the wrong end of the stick, but I thought they were going to be open to any registered MNer, but would not be viewable by casual browsers or Googlebots.

Also that there would be 'rooms' for particular topics e.g. SN or Lone Parents, not for posters to chat privately.

Obviously this was all thought up pre-Mailgate, so not a solution to that particular problem. But I guess HQ could be a lot more robust about saying to journos that it was not ok to report what was said in the private areas.

Pleaseletmego - it is not my name causing boxes, my name is only a few characters longer than yours! It is stealth who is currently StealthBearWipesBumOnDailyMail - although that is not that long either - certainly not enough to cause a problem on classic. Perhaps you should all just get off MN new and go back to basics?

Report
Flamesparrow · 15/08/2009 22:52

But surely the said journos just become (or already are) registered members?

HTH Meg

Was waaaay before my time, I pieced it together from delving through the archives, and picking up snippets here and there along the way.

tis almost like a legend, along with judge flounce, lavendaaaar and mohze, when all round here was fields yadda yadda

But coming back to the OP, 'twill be vair interesting to see how this could be run

So chat would be a journo free for all, and they could copy and paste as much as they wanted.
The breastfeeding teenagers room would be open to all including the journos, but journos wouldn't be able to cut and paste whole sections because it would be 'private'. Would it also be ungoogleable (is that even a word?)

Oh yes KingCanute. Tis so big you could have a private party in there.

Report
LilyBolero · 15/08/2009 23:03

My understanding was that it would be exactly what it says - areas of the site that were private except for 'permitted' posters. Now this could mean people 'invited' or it could mean registered uers, but I certainly got the impression it would be for smaller groups of people, and therefore was more of the 'invited' type.

But who does the inviting? And how? If I wanted a private room (that sounds so seedy), and only wanted to talk to posters X, Y and Z, would I CAT them? Or are the rooms pre-determined like Chat Topics?

Sounds like a can of worms
