Towers - can we have our own smiley for [yes I have the nappy you need step into my office on the selling topic wink wink]? That would be cool.

A sort of shady wheeler and dealer type little fella.

HelenMumsnet · 05/08/2009 20:08

Thank you for your patience everyone.

I promise we'll sort this as soon as we can. And want to reassure you again that there will always be a place on Mumsnet to talk and swap nappies.

lol at treedelivery's shady smiley.

Haven't seen you since we dealt on the trading floor

Like my new name?

Another washable nappy user here who has had some fab advice from other mums saying...
please can we have the washable nappies topic back...

BaronConker · 05/08/2009 20:55

As a recent joiner of mumsnet, I'd like to say that I think this is a terrible decision. I've always felt nervous and intimidated about posting on threads in the past, but finally plucked up the courage to join in on the nappy chat thread, and now feel that I'm a member of a real community. I would never have found this thread if it was housed in 'products', it's just not a logical place to look!

We have lots of fun chatting about our hobby, and although there's undoubtedly a bit of buying and selling (all very low key, mostly under £5 type stuff), it's much more about trading tips, asking for advice, and sharing the day to day stories of our babies and toddlers.

I find it really hard to believe that advertisers can be objecting. I've bought more new cloth nappies since joining this thread than ever in my life before, and there have been numerous newbies who've visited the thread and gone on to purchase sets of cloth nappies, just in the short time since I joined.

I'm very disappointed. This is the exact opposite of what I expected from Mumsnet, and the antithesis of what I believed this site to be.

JennyPenny22 · 05/08/2009 21:30

Well said BaronConker.

treedelivery · 05/08/2009 21:47

Main upshot of this occurance is that I feel a warm fuzzy glow - and not just at the sight of my nappies neatly sorted from white through to black, and all the glorious colours in between. I feel a warm glow towards the lovely thread. Aw, I spent half my pregnancy there. Aw.

JennyPenny22 · 05/08/2009 23:09

(Off topic lightly) tree I have PMed you on CNA about the nappy for sale. I can post it tomorrow if you want it.

norktasticninja · 05/08/2009 23:13

lol Jenny, your supposed to use the new [yes I have the nappy you need step into my office on the selling topic wink wink] smiley now

That's great to hear Octo!

Quite a mystery! I hope MNHQ will see fit to let us know what's going on soon.

norktasticninja · 06/08/2009 09:09

Oh, it's still only 9am there of course, 'tis an hour later here

HelenMumsnet · 06/08/2009 12:13

Hello everyone

Thanks so much for bearing with us yesterday while we were scurrying around behind the scenes trying to sort this out. We're a bit thin on the ground at MNHQ this week and it's taken longer than usual to check with each other, but didn't want to post till we had all our facts straight.

SO... first up, a big apology from us for taking the word 'Nappies' out of the title of the Nappies/Potty training topic - crossed wires at MNHQ.

We'd like to reassure everyone that we never meant to remove Nappies as a Topic - we love nappies (almost!) as much as you do and would never dream of depriving you (and us) of the chance to chat nappies, swap nappies and generally shoot the reusable nappy breeze.

What triggered all this was us realising there was a lot of buying and selling on the Nappies/Potty training topic. And as you may or may not know, we have a general policy on Mumsnet that all buying and selling should be kept within the For Sale/Wanted topic (where, incidentally, there is a special Reusable Nappies section).

We were alerted to the buying and selling by posters, NOT advertisers - and CERTAINLY NOT TotsBots.

Some of the posters were reporting others for buying and selling in the wrong place - and sometimes these posts were deleted. Others were objecting to their posts being deleted, saying they'd paid for a Small Business Ad. Yet others were wondering why some posters were buying and selling on the thread when they hadn't paid for an SBA.

Basically, there was a lot of confusion (and clearly on our part as much as anyone else's).

I got the wrong end of the stick when I posted at the beginning of this thread that we were getting daily complaints from small business advertisers - and I'm really sorry for my mistake. But in my defence it's fair to say we were regularly being asked to clarify what was allowed and what wasn't.

So, what we propose to do now is to split Nappies and Potty Training into two separate topics.

At the top of the Nappies topic, we're going to put a note, reminding everyone that it's just a topic for Nappy talk and Nappy swaps, and asking people who want to buy and sell nappies to do so in the For Sale/Wanted topic.

We hope that's a workable solution for everyone - and apologies again for spooking you all by renaming the Topic out of the blue.

afterglow · 06/08/2009 12:44

Thank you!

Octothechildherder · 06/08/2009 15:21

Thank you - sounds good to me!

TheNatty · 06/08/2009 17:15

thanks MNHQ

JennyPenny22 · 06/08/2009 20:08

Thanks!

norktasticninja · 06/08/2009 20:13

I see that the topic that used to be 'Nappies/Potty Training' is now just 'Nappies'. Do we have 'Nappies' and 'Potty Training' topics now?

GeraldineMumsnet · 06/08/2009 20:34

Yes, topic called Potty training, also in Being a parent, and we're in the process of moving over all the recent potty training threads from renamed Nappies topic.

It may take a little while.

NorthernLurker · 06/08/2009 20:45

Oh I love a happy ending!

ilovemydogandmrobama · 06/08/2009 20:56

In the meantime, have started a General Chat for Cloth Nappy Users...
