Tis just potty training now? Have I missed something? Thanks

HelenMumsnet · 04/08/2009 21:36

Yes, we have removed the nappies section from Mumsnet Talk because it was being used so extensively for buying and selling, rather than general discussions about nappies.

We were getting daily complaints from nappy sellers who'd paid to take out Small Business Ads and were, quite rightly, feeling aggrieved.

If you'd like to buy and sell nappies, please use the special section for that in For Sale/Wanted

If you'd like to discuss nappies without buying and selling, please use our Products Topic

We have responded

HelenMumsnet · 05/08/2009 15:34

Hang on, hang on - we're not ignoring you!

It's just been a bit busy at MNHQ today, so apologies for not responding earlier.

We're taking on board all you're saying here and are looking for a solution that works for everyone.

And, to reassure you all, we absolutely support the use of reusable nappies, and certainly have no wish to stop any swapping of them or chatting about them. (I'm partial to a bit of nappy chat meself!)

Please bear with us for a bit while we try to sort this out.

Just in case you missed my post further down, please bear with us on this.

We are working on solving this for you.

HelenMumsnet · 05/08/2009 20:08

Thank you for your patience everyone.

I promise we'll sort this as soon as we can. And want to reassure you again that there will always be a place on Mumsnet to talk and swap nappies.

lol at treedelivery's shady smiley.

Hello everyone

Thanks so much for bearing with us yesterday while we were scurrying around behind the scenes trying to sort this out. We're a bit thin on the ground at MNHQ this week and it's taken longer than usual to check with each other, but didn't want to post till we had all our facts straight.

SO... first up, a big apology from us for taking the word 'Nappies' out of the title of the Nappies/Potty training topic - crossed wires at MNHQ.

We'd like to reassure everyone that we never meant to remove Nappies as a Topic - we love nappies (almost!) as much as you do and would never dream of depriving you (and us) of the chance to chat nappies, swap nappies and generally shoot the reusable nappy breeze.

What triggered all this was us realising there was a lot of buying and selling on the Nappies/Potty training topic. And as you may or may not know, we have a general policy on Mumsnet that all buying and selling should be kept within the For Sale/Wanted topic (where, incidentally, there is a special Reusable Nappies section).

We were alerted to the buying and selling by posters, NOT advertisers - and CERTAINLY NOT TotsBots.

Some of the posters were reporting others for buying and selling in the wrong place - and sometimes these posts were deleted. Others were objecting to their posts being deleted, saying they'd paid for a Small Business Ad. Yet others were wondering why some posters were buying and selling on the thread when they hadn't paid for an SBA.

Basically, there was a lot of confusion (and clearly on our part as much as anyone else's).

I got the wrong end of the stick when I posted at the beginning of this thread that we were getting daily complaints from small business advertisers - and I'm really sorry for my mistake. But in my defence it's fair to say we were regularly being asked to clarify what was allowed and what wasn't.

So, what we propose to do now is to split Nappies and Potty Training into two separate topics.

At the top of the Nappies topic, we're going to put a note, reminding everyone that it's just a topic for Nappy talk and Nappy swaps, and asking people who want to buy and sell nappies to do so in the For Sale/Wanted topic.

We hope that's a workable solution for everyone - and apologies again for spooking you all by renaming the Topic out of the blue.

GeraldineMumsnet · 06/08/2009 20:34

Yes, topic called Potty training, also in Being a parent, and we're in the process of moving over all the recent potty training threads from renamed Nappies topic.

It may take a little while.

lol, treedelivery - don't tempt us!
