Hello,

I have been spending time at another forum. It's fine though, it's not parenting one.

Anyway, to the point.

This other forum has a little but you can go back into your post to edit it. It would be great for illiterate people like me who make many errors from time to time.

Can we have this ? Please.

It also has starts to rate threads but I don't want that here, it may cause a problem or 23.

Thanks in advance.

"I edited this as i typed it all in text speak that woudl alienate my audience"

HecatesTwopenceworth · 16/06/2009 19:59

can I just annoy you all and point out that we actually have a preview button, so you can check your post before you submit it.

Why is it that people - me included - can't see mistakes when they type them, or when they preview them, but always when they have submitted them? I mean, you are looking at the exact same thing!!

FourThingsAndALizard · 16/06/2009 20:03

The only person who uses edit at the moment is YMT - he always gets dates wrong in his posts & then changes it, leaving the 10 people who pointed it out looking like idiots.....

AnarchyAunt · 16/06/2009 20:08

No, please, no edit button.

It makes no sense when things get edited, and I think in combination with MN's namechange facility it would encourage trollery.

stubbyfingers · 16/06/2009 20:08

Noooooooooooooooooooooo!

No editing. Would render the most interesting threads useless if people can go back and change their minds.

preview like the rest of us

southeastastra · 16/06/2009 20:09

no! some of us need to face up to our own failings

lou33 · 16/06/2009 22:26

who would have thought this would provoke such strong reactions?!

psychomum5 · 16/06/2009 22:44

I don;t need tohave such a button when flame is here lookin over my shoulder!!

wehn she isn;t here....well, ....I cope!

EyeballsandherSunburntNorks · 16/06/2009 23:07

You might have wanted to preview that post psycho

psychomum5 · 16/06/2009 23:12

see.....I need flame!!!

TheFool · 17/06/2009 07:46

You whinge when I do it at the time though

Tee2072 · 17/06/2009 08:54

No no no to an edit button!!!!!!

Preview your post. Read it backwards so that you read individual words rather than meaning. Install a spell checker.

No no no edit button!!!

Habbibu · 17/06/2009 20:22

Use Firefox, you luddites. It has a spellchecker. Doesn't recognise the word Firefox, mind.

Couldn't we have one to edit posts but not titles then? So people can't change from 'AIBU to aim projectiles at cats arses' to 'AIBU to be angry that my neighbour shot my cat up the arse', or whstever? Like all replies could be edited but not OPs?

TheFool · 17/06/2009 20:59

i love the fact that firefox doesn't recognise itself. or mozilla

Tee2072 · 18/06/2009 06:50

thefool did you know that Microsoft's spell checker didn't used to recognize Microsoft? I don't know if that is still true, but it sure used to be!

TheFool · 18/06/2009 07:56

lol. You really would think they would sort that.

Wonder if my phone recognises Sony....

FelineFine · 18/06/2009 15:11

OMG

I cannot believe you are getting all excited and telling me to "bother your arse by checking".

Sometimes I am busy, I have no time to check.

I thought I would ask. Okay ?

eejits

and I have a spell check, I just wanted an edit too. Okay ?

editing isnt just for spelling errors, you may want to add something you forgot to initially

Jux · 19/06/2009 12:07

...which will then change the relevance of all subsequent posts, lou .....

lou33 · 19/06/2009 12:58

not necessarily, it could be something like, oh i also forgot to say blah blah blah, which could be posted without altering any fundamental arguments

fora work with and without an editing facility, i've not had any issues with being on ones with editing privileges

mind you they also have a quote button as well, which means even if the op had changed their post drastically, someone often had the original one to refer back to

SoupDragon · 19/06/2009 13:41

Can't see the point TBH. Either make another post adding the missed info or apologise for any typos if you want to.

I hate ones that do have an edit function as, often, subsequent posts don't make sense.

FelineFine · 20/06/2009 14:31

I forget stuff All the time. It means I have to post 3 times instead of once sometimes, although I am slighty hyperactive so that may explain that. Possibly.

OP posts:
stubbornhubby · 12/06/2010 08:29

lots of forums let you edit posts.
it leaves a mark 'this post edited on hhmmss'
you can restrict it so it can be editted in first 5 mins only (to correct a silly mistake)

Please?
