lol marla

I am sometimes called FIS which always makes me think of FISH and where's the H gone.

Fis is a bit, well nothing really. Unsatisfactory.

BernardsCat · 12/05/2009 17:52

its like a FISH but no bones.

2shoes · 12/05/2009 17:53

BC do you get annoyed with before christ?

or only after Christ - you do have to wait a while for this second comign malarkey

Fimbo · 12/05/2009 17:55

My mother (who never ever thinks she is saying anything offensive) was horrified that dd's initials are RC, because it means Roman Catholic. Silly bint.

FlappytheBat · 12/05/2009 18:00

Might have missed it, but I don't think anybody has mentioned any problems that they have with DS = dear son, but DS is also used when people are talking about Downs Syndrome.

Is this because it is on the mumsnet list of abbreviation, that this one is seen to be ok?

Tamarto · 12/05/2009 18:10

Fimbo what would she say about my DD hers is BJ?

pagwatch · 12/05/2009 18:12

One of my brothers has the initials CPAP and wrote them on all his books and school stuff. My other brother ( not unpredictably)went around and added a down stroke to the first P on all his belongings.
Everything he owned was crap....

2shoes · 12/05/2009 18:13

pagwatch pmsl

FlappytheBat · 12/05/2009 18:22

pagwatch, I didn't think of crap, but continuous positive airway pressure!!

daftpunk · 12/05/2009 18:27

sorry 2shoes..didn't mean to pyo...but when you ask posters to type out chicken pox but you don't even say cerebral palsy in RL.....do you expect people to have much sympathy?

Lulumama · 12/05/2009 18:35

still a bit baffled 2shoes as to why you have posted to me earlier as though you and i have never 'spoken'???

2shoes · 12/05/2009 18:48

sorry Lulu, I think I was shocked that the thread had re surfaced, you know I love you.
dp whatever..

ProfMargotBeauregarde · 12/05/2009 19:05

You did NOT give your daughter the initials BJ!

Lulumama · 12/05/2009 19:07

okey doke.. did not want to piss you off or feel you were pissed off at me..

Peachy · 12/05/2009 19:12

My dad has the initials BJ

It actually enabled my first boyf to find my number (he called the most interesting set of initials to see if it was right)

You can guess how long that lasted (Not Very pmsl)

My initials are CP btw, but on MN for years they were PC (peachyclair) and I got pissed off with threads about awful PC types until in relaised I was indeed both a PC by name and nature LOL

Not in the bogawful I am a PC Microdoft wanka sense though

DS2's initials are SMP, he's atribute to staturtory amternity pay, and DS3 is HP coz he's tasty like the sauce

Not

lisad123 · 12/05/2009 19:15

MS means manuscript and CP is command post. Don't know where people are getting these other meanings from

Peachy · 12/05/2009 19:33

MS is miorning sickness usually, can also be mainstream of course

BF best friend, boy friend, breast feeding......

After a few years you can get a degree in modern langaugaes after a test on MN acronyms

FlappytheBat · 12/05/2009 19:37

Abbreviations will mean different things to different people, depending on their personal experiences. It's not like people are making light of anyones experience by using an abbreviation that can have many different meanings.

I notice that no one has responded to my point about DS!!

When I was a student nurse and working in a general surgery ward, we would put signs on peoples beds if they needed any particular tests, as a reminder.

One abbreviation we used was F.O.B - faecal occult blood, once I was asked by a patient why she was being referred to as a fat, old bag - that's what F.O.B meant to her

beepbeep123 · 26/05/2009 22:27

can anybody give me alist of common acronyms on MN as i sometimes dont have a clue.
thanks
