but I would be grateful if you could tell me that you have at least given serious consideration to banning the posters who were harrassing her.

Thank you.

HOW would he arsing about on the veggers thread constitute official pastoral care?

Heathcliffscathy · 20/01/2009 21:09

Sindie?

sunday independent?

so what bothered you was her talking about moldies???

ahh

WinkyWinkola · 20/01/2009 21:10

Well, sophable, I have to say I didn't agree with everything she said on Gaza crisis and there were others too but I don't remember seeing anything attacking her personally on this area. I could be wrong. But I felt she was amazingly informed and I learned a lot from her.

Has she gone? No. Surely not. She's so valuable on MN.

HerIllustriousEminenceOnebat · 20/01/2009 21:10

Sorry anyone, not everyone.

I agree about the MNHQ workings being occluded this time, soph. Usually they come on and I think 'Ah, I see.' Then I think 'that's why they're in charge of a multinationalconglomerate commercially-viable website with an impressive media presence, and i'm not.

But this time, I think they're really v wrong.

Heathcliffscathy · 20/01/2009 21:11

I don't think she is gone? she hasn't flounced at all...probably just lying low for today until the dust settles...

PottyCock · 20/01/2009 21:11

Justa quick wave to the Rev. I have never posted on your threads I don't think but you seem lovely and sound - have only quickly skimmed over other threads but have to say I think it's all a poor bloody show.

Heathcliffscathy · 20/01/2009 21:11

pmsl at notrubber

HighPriestessrutyofthe7Seas · 20/01/2009 21:11

i really don't get this posting 'officially' stuff - the church is made up of individuals with different opinions. And anyway she has said nothing dodgy anyway so all rather hypothetical.

Taunting she is a fantasist because she said she'd lost relatives in the Holocaust is however pretty unequivocal.

Heathcliffscathy · 20/01/2009 21:12

indeed ruty

morningpaper · 20/01/2009 21:13

she is lying low

WilfSell · 20/01/2009 21:13

winky! MrEniddo accused her of making up the fact that she had relatives in the Holocaust. For which she later apologised.

That's pretty much a personal attack doncha think?

HerIllustriousEminenceOnebat · 20/01/2009 21:13

Jute:What made me think? The things she said about the Sindie- about how she was worried because her supervisor knew her MN name and how she talked to him about her mn posts. I don't remember the exact words, but I thought it was odd.

Have you any idea about how the modern church/psychotherapy/counselling profession works?

This is very common and is intended to protect the individual concerned as much as those to whom she speaks.

Aitch · 20/01/2009 21:14

exactly, ruty. this is all bollocks tbh, the posters concerned were WRONG, they should apologise. and the rev shouldn't change her name unless she wants to.

jute · 20/01/2009 21:14

er no -very big leap there sophable. Nothing bothered me. I just noticed what she said about her supervision because I thought it was strange. I did think she meant that she was on MN with supervision (to put this in some context someone has repeatedly tried to recruit me to their church over the last 2 years).

I found out today that I misunderstood the nature of her supervision.

jabberwocky · 20/01/2009 21:14

I missed all of this and have now spent way too much time linking threads and reading up on it. Too bad about all of the nasty comments

And now I have a question. Is the moldies site actually a private part of the MN site? I thought it was just a group who privately set up a forum on their own. Seems a bit odd if it's really an invitation only part of MN

WinkyWinkola · 20/01/2009 21:16

"winky! MrEniddo accused her of making up the fact that she had relatives in the Holocaust. For which she later apologised.

Of course it is a personal attack. I didn't see this though.

jute · 20/01/2009 21:16

onebat- yes I know how counselling works (and supervision), I know nothing about the clergy other than being at the receiving end of some rather full on recruitment attempts. I assumed it was a novel way to meet the masses. I'm afraid I am rather cynical when it comes to the christian church in particular.

Had I realised that it was a counselling type supervision then of course I wouldn't have made the mistake.

Heathcliffscathy · 20/01/2009 21:16

jute are you a moldie?

i'm asking because it would be one thing if rev had come to your notice because of some interest in religious postings on mn...that would be in some way relevant.

how she came to yours isn't really relevant to this is it? in that her 'claim to expertise through choice of name' only really applies to her posts on religious subjects doesn't it?

Swedes · 20/01/2009 21:16

Is it possible that MNHQ are advising Justabout to drop the rev from her name because they are trying to help her protect her real life identity in future? I feel certain that Justabout would only agree if she truly agreed.

Threadworm · 20/01/2009 21:17

The more I think about it the more annoyed I am with MNHQ on this matter. Requesting Rev to change her name does seem to imply (without cause) that she brought the bullying on herself.

There are other poster names with job titles in them (scienceteacher a good example). Rev's posts have been interesting and suppportive and have not overstepped the position of one MNer giving advice to another, equal, MNer. Others have given 'expert' advice much more vociferously.

She was bullied on more than one thread by posters who disliked her lack of regard for moldies and who (presumably) disliked the high-profile and popularity she has, which used to be the preserve of now-superannuated MNers.

Hardly anyone (if indeed anyone at all other than the aggressive trollhunter posters) has objected to her name, and yet MNHQ's response is to ask her to change it. I really hope MNHQ will rethink this.

BennyAndJoon · 20/01/2009 21:18

I am a humanist, and I understand that a rev on here would be posting in a personal capacity.

There are semi official MN people, they have MNHQ after their name.

Morning paper does a round up

Carm does receipts

if there was any doubt that justabout was a MN OFFICIAL surely the fact we didn't have prayer of the day in the weekly round up would have cleared that up.

jeeze

oops

Heathcliffscathy · 20/01/2009 21:18

swedes thing is everyone knows rev is a rev. she leads the reluctant worshippers threads and makes no attempt to hide what she does for a living. so how does it protect her?

DetectiveInspectorLittleBella · 20/01/2009 21:18

I had no idea rev was a rev until Enid and PPH came on and started telling her she wasn't.

HerIllustriousEminenceOnebat · 20/01/2009 21:18

For example.

If I were a qualified psychoanalytic psychotherapist I would have monthly sessions with a supervisory psychotherapist to talk through issues which might affect me, arising from the things that I would hear in the course of my practise.

Were I to be posting online, as an individual with acknowledged professional expertise, both I and my professional body would definitely want a disinterested observer to oversee my online life in a general way. They would not, obviously, be standing over my shoulder as I posted - but they would expect to be informed of anything which went beyond the most anodyne advice.

And in any freaking case, I've never seen the Rev give out advice or speak from a posit of authority.
