What's this 'show more/show less' nonsense for?!

It completely breaks up the flow of a thread.

Do you really think we haven't got the brain power to read a post that's longer than two paragraphs?!

Thank goodness - and thanks for listening to our feedback 😊

This is a gr at example of why is is such a rubbish idea.

You should want people to read your posts

I wonder if this helped change their minds. The irony...

I'm late to this thread, and glad you've turned it off now - just adding my name to those frustrated by the truncated posts.

MN is where I come to read, not scroll, and discuss topics with likeminded people. I have learnt a lot from posters on some long-running threads, so the idea that somehow we are not mature enough to be able to read a full post is insulting, before considering the accessibility angle.

Halsall · 17/07/2026 18:17

Thank goodness for that. It’s the right decision. I can’t understand why you think this feature would ever be helpful, though?

Naurrr · 17/07/2026 18:21

I participated in some guff about 'which of the following do you prefer:' but it was based on making quote history opt-in to see more.

Not people's actual posts! Keep it switched off.

Thank you for listening and making the change @AmeliaPMumsnet

Hi all,

Thank you again for all the feedback you shared about truncated posts. We switched the feature off while we reviewed what you told us and made some changes.

We heard loud and clear that collapsing ordinary posts was too disruptive. It interrupted the flow of threads, meant repeatedly clicking or tapping to read posts, and made the site harder to use for some people. At the same time, many of you told us that collapsing lengthy posts within quotes can be helpful.

With that in mind, we've changed the feature so that only long posts within quotes are truncated. This change is now live on the site.

Thanks again for taking the time to explain what wasn't working, and for bearing with us while we made these changes.
