It would be way more helpful to add it to all quotes of >3 lines. Utterly unnecessary in new posts though.

Get rid of the "load newer/older posts" button while you're at it, that's another pointless irritation.

Just don't click. I'm not bothering to read posts now where the site is failing to display them correctly.
Less engagement is what they want, which is fine by me.

In terms of disability/accessibility, I already have finger splints on arthritic fingers. All this click-click-clicking is bloody awful. Badly done, MNHQ, badly done.

It probably is. The less time you spend actually reading a page, the more quickly you click on the next one, meaning the more quickly they can show you a fresh load of adverts.

In the short term, its a gain for Mumsnet, but if it turns enough people off the platform, it's likely to do long term to the website. There's defintitely been a drop in overall threads started over the last 6 months or so, this change isn't going to help with that

If getting more ad views are the reason for this abomination then I will make it my mission never to buy anything I see advertised on MN.

Sorry for the delay in responding here, and thanks for bearing with us. We do appreciate everyone's feedback.

We're working on adding a setting that will allow you to turn off truncated posts. This isn't an instant change, but it's something we're aiming to add as soon as possible. We'll update this thread as soon as we have any news.

We've also taken on board your feedback about only truncating quoted posts, and we're looking into the issue where shorter posts are being truncated, as this shouldn't be happening.

If you spot any short posts that have been truncated when they shouldn't be, could you please share a screenshot and a link to the thread so we can investigate?

@AmeliaPMumsnet bearing in mind a number of people have said all the extra clicking is causing them physical pain because of their disabilities, please remove it completely until we can turn off this "feature" - and work on making it an opt-in feature rather than an opt-out feature.

Another person here who is very frustrated by this new and cumbersome feature!

I also post and read on the 50 Books threads where many lists of titles are posted. I scroll down the page to scan the titles. If I have to click on every single post to see all the titles, that's a crazy amount of effort.

Please axe this unwelcome innovation, or make it opt-in instead of opt-out.

We've been reading through all of your comments, and we've decided to switch truncated posts off again while we review everything properly.

As with any new feature, it's clear that people use the site in different ways, and what's helpful for some isn't for others. That's why we're looking into adding a setting that will let you turn truncated posts off if you prefer to see everything expanded by default, rather than taking a one size fits all approach.

Thanks again for bearing with us while we work through this. We'll update this thread as soon as we have more news.
