Can't open threads or type posts

I'm on Chrome mobile, Samsung S22 Ultra. MN seems to load fully, but then I can't tap threads to read them, and once in them, have to reload several times to be able to type. Scrolling down the thread list is fine. I've had to close and reopen Chrome several times to post this.

I know it's not Chrome itself because the home and menu buttons work, I can Google things and type straight away, and I can tap any of the results and it loads instantly. When I return to MN the issue is as before. So it's a site issue, not a browser issue.

I had this problem on my iPad and it was due to it being too full. I had to delete apps/ photos and then Mumsnet worked again.

Not the problem here. My Android phone is fairly new and has loads of capacity for storage and processing.

PegDope · 28/10/2025 07:57

Same here. Chrome on iPhone 16.

hellswelshy · 28/10/2025 07:59

Same here, can post this but tapping and tapping to open a thread then have to refresh...

FuzzyPuffling · 28/10/2025 08:00

Same here.
Android/Chrome.

It's taken me three goes of "in and out" to be able to post this.

drspouse · 28/10/2025 08:03

Same here - the app doesn't let you go back to your last unread post, search in thread etc.
Three goes to post this, with two forced stops of Chrome (on Android).

Doorlockhandle321 · 28/10/2025 01:26

Also having to leave the site and come back in to open a new thread, cant press on three dots, doesn't work by just refreshing page. Im on mobile site, android and Chrome.

Same issue.

I've left and opened a new tab to be able to post this.

It's almost impossible to get into threads and when I do they're goong back several pages from where I was too.

Nightmare.

We need help, but I expect a lot of people can't even get in here to ask for it....

MeanMrMustardSeed · 28/10/2025 08:04

Me too!

Genuine question - why would you access MN on your phone but not on the app?

Lots of reasons.

Some people just prefer to minimise thenumbee of apps on their phone.

A browser allows you to have universalvl settings for all websites you visit, whereas an app for each website would need thise settings done individually (but only if the app developers bothered with that functionality)

There have been numerous functionalities on mumsnet which weren't available to app usere (I have lost track of whether those have caught up now)

Mumsnet is a website. Any browser is a piece of software designed to take information from a website and present it on screen. Any app of the type of the mumsnet app is essentially a broswer that is locked to only interact with one website so that the app developers can more finely control how it is presented on screen. There is no particular reason to think that people who built the software for this purpose for mumsnet are going to be more skilled or talented or make fewer mistakes than the people who do this job for apple, or google or any of the other big browser developers. There are just as frequent threads complaining about bugs in the app.

drspouse · 28/10/2025 08:07

After other posters said they thought it was ad related I've looked at a page that was not cooperating and it did indeed have a blank space at the top saying ADVERTISEMENT.

DoubleDuvet · 28/10/2025 08:09

It's like the touchscreen on my phone doesn't work. But only for Mumsnet.

In my case, it is for the data mining. you might not be aware every app you install, can gather and sell information about you. Where you live based on whre your phone is at night, at what time you wake up, where you go during the day, what websites you browse and what time of the day, what your shopping habits are, which is your favourite supermarket, and your guilty habits.

Free apps get money from selling your data. Apps were not created at high cost because they like you and it is cool to have an app.

I use DuckDuckGo for MN, I have a trouble free, ad-free, speedy experience. And my data remains mine.

I use the Brave browser for the same reason, especially when watching YouTube videos. It's great having no ads! Hadn't thought to use it for MN but I will now. Thanks,

SophiaLaBe · 28/10/2025 08:12

Same here on iPhone and safari. Won’t work until advert at top of screen loads.

HalloweenCrow · 28/10/2025 08:13

RampantIvy · 28/10/2025 07:04

Thank you for the recommendation. I am now using DuckDuckGo.

Same.

Otherwise MN would be unusable.

Letthemeatgateau · 28/10/2025 08:19

Yes I've just moved over to DuckDuckGo too.

Seeline · 28/10/2025 08:29

.

Seeline · 28/10/2025 08:30

Same here. Every time a page is loaded, I am unable to do anything until the ad intended for the space I've highlighted downloads. This is taking minutes to do this morning - ridiculous.
So the site is basically unusable - again

Same issue for me, like the touchscreen won't work but it's fine for everything else. Motorola g84, Chrome.

Pepperedpickles · 28/10/2025 08:42

Same here. Chrome on IPhone 11.

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 28/10/2025 08:47

Same here. iPhone and only Mumsnet isn’t working.

hexsnidgett · 28/10/2025 09:01

Yes. I had to navigate here from Ggoogle rather and struggle to type as it freezes whilst the ad loads in the corner. About 30 seconds at a time. Android tablet chrome browser.

HerbertVonDoodlebug · 28/10/2025 09:10

Yep same here, iPhone, not working on Chrome. Can load active threads but not click on any thread names to open them. Safari seems to be ok at the moment

Houmousandcrisps · 28/10/2025 09:21

Also if you refresh the page, the ad sometimes loads immediately, but if you begin to scroll down it disappears, so you then can’t kick anything. Where are Mumsnet HQ??

OOo0 · 28/10/2025 09:24

No links or reactions work on chrome.

ive switched to Firefox to make the site usable, Firefox is actually my preferred browser but I normally get the whiny mumsnet popup about you have to allow ads (normally after the full screen take over ad for John Deere or similar, so clearly ads are working so why the pop up.)

doctorsleep · 28/10/2025 09:27

The loading being slow is due to ad bidding, in other words, advertisers are bidding against each others to show their ads. This is why ads take a few second to load on website. During that loading time, your data is analysed and you are being offered to a bidder, and until an ad is shown, you are more or less frozen.
Then given that you have multiple ads even within a thread, it is going to be slow.

BeckyAMumsnet · 28/10/2025 09:57

Hello all - thanks for alerting us and our apologies for the interruption. We think we've solved this issue now but please let us know if it happens again.
