Can't open threads or type posts

I'm on Chrome mobile, Samsung S22 Ultra. MN seems to load fully, but then I can't tap threads to read them, and once in them, have to reload several times to be able to type. Scrolling down the thread list is fine. I've had to close and reopen Chrome several times to post this.

I know it's not Chrome itself because the home and menu buttons work, I can Google things and type straight away, and I can tap any of the results and it loads instantly. When I return to MN the issue is as before. So it's a site issue, not a browser issue.

Same. Android, Samsung web browser.

Same here

Thank you 🥰 My understanding is that websites do that anyway. All my info on this app is generic (ie not linked to me) apart from my IP address which would be mined if I accessed MN through the website or app.

Totally different, apps have access to a lot more information via direct device access. The web relies on tracking such as cookies.

ToriTheStoryteller · 28/10/2025 06:49

Same for me. Chrome on Android.

I thought it was my phone finally dying!

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 28/10/2025 06:51

Same on safari

Letthemeatgateau · 28/10/2025 06:53

Same for me too. Samsung and Chrome. Started mid evening yesterday.

Hercisback1 · 28/10/2025 06:54

Same, I blamed the slightly ropey WiFi connection. Interesting to see it's not that.
Chrome and Android.

@whimsicallyprickly A website doesn’t know at what time you turn your phone off and go to sleep and for how long, or what internet content you look at first thing in the morning, which podcast you subscribe to, how often you shop on amazon, where you drop your kids at school…. and even what guilty pleasure you buy at Pret just because you quickly browsed their menu as you were walking to the one next to your office at 12.24 pm. .
A website will leave cookies, beacon identifiers, pixel tags, bugs, …. but an app, any app, oh boy, you might as well stream live.

This is why one should only have strictly necessary apps, because for each you have clicked “ I agree or I consent” to pages and pages of terms and conditions you haven’t read, and usually have also vague clauses such “ as needed for app functionality” or “ might change” .

In my case, it is for the data mining. you might not be aware every app you install, can gather and sell information about you. Where you live based on whre your phone is at night, at what time you wake up, where you go during the day, what websites you browse and what time of the day, what your shopping habits are, which is your favourite supermarket, and your guilty habits.

Free apps get money from selling your data. Apps were not created at high cost because they like you and it is cool to have an app.

I use DuckDuckGo for MN, I have a trouble free, ad-free, speedy experience. And my data remains mine.

Thank you for the recommendation. I am now using DuckDuckGo.

Genuine question - why would you access MN on your phone but not on the app?

Because the mobile site is much better than the app and has more functionality

Id ask the question the other way round

Rocknrollstar · 28/10/2025 07:14

I had this problem on my iPad and it was due to it being too full. I had to delete apps/ photos and then Mumsnet worked again.

Sorry if I've misunderstood but surely we all disallow all permissions in each app which we download onto our phone?..... if we're concerned. Are you saying that no matter if the app has all permissions denied, it can still spy on us?

doctorsleep · 28/10/2025 07:24

as if it never happened before….
I am not talking about the MN app specifically but apps in general, and endless times, they have been caught, have had a token fine and they keep doing it. Because your data is what makes them rich.
How many has Facebook said, oops it wasn’t me listening to your conversations but a third party company we use for marketing.
"Facebook partner admits to eavesdropping on conversations via phone mics for ad targeting” https://www.techspot.com/news/104566-marketing-firm-admits-eavesdropping-conversations-phone-microphones-serve.html

Every app you install could do far more than what you think. You install codes in your phone, you update apps and what was true last year, might be different this year.

anon2022anon · 28/10/2025 07:26

Still happening here this morning

I've got 192GB available, so I don't think it's that for me.

Also happening to me. Started last night but mych worse this morning. Android phone using Chrome.

islingtontrial · 28/10/2025 07:31

I have this problem on my mac. My phone is fine but on my mac this site is becoming unusable.

CrustyBread1977 · 28/10/2025 07:31

Same here Chrome on iPhone 14.

FuckedOffWithTheLotOfThem · 28/10/2025 07:32

I think I'm having a similar issue - links to threads on Watching or I'm On, or in-thread links to other threads, bookmarks and See Next Post not working. (Mobile site, Chrome on Android phone)

Houmousandcrisps · 28/10/2025 07:40

Me too - it’s a complete pain
iPhone SE 2022 running iOS 18.6.2, Safari

I've got 192GB available, so I don't think it's that for me.

It is not the storage, but the processing, the CPU.
As you are navigating MN. your device is exchanging informations with at least 17 external servers. No wonder, your device freezes or is painfully slow.

FightingInAVatOfJellyBabies · 28/10/2025 07:46

And me.

Could see this post but not click into it, managed to get here by clicking the I'm on button at the footer, then finding a site stuff old post and getting in that way.
I can't access the active page at all

Chrome on Android (as I also think the app is crap)

LillyPJ · 28/10/2025 07:54

I've got the same and it's really annoying, especially after the recent 'whole page obscured by advert' thing. I think it might be that the little adverts that appear at the top of the page seem to be taking ages to load and while they are loading, the rest of the page is unresponsive. Hoping MN sort this out quickly.
