Same here. Site is essentially unusable.

I'm also getting a massive white space advert that takes up all the screen except a small window at the bottom. There's no cross to click on to get rid if it and it doesn't time out on its own. The only way of getting rid is to exit the thread, but it comes back when you return to the thread. The ad appears to be about fostering? Screenshot attached.

It's making the site unusable.

It was on the Graham Linehan thread:

I'm getting this tonight, a prostate cancer full white page making the site even more unusable, adverts everywhere.

Android - Chrome- won't be clicking random pop up adverts to get url.

Edit - this is not a scrolling advert, as you can see from screen shot - advert too big for the screen, no way to remove it unless you navigate away from the page you are on.

Edited

I just came on to this thread to say that's exactly the experience I'm getting today.

I can't read the thread I'm interested in because it jumps to a big white advert screen filling the whole page and there is no way to get rid of it.

Absolutely infuriating.

Brainstorm23 · 13/10/2025 09:27

Another person seeing this. No way to scroll or close. Infuriating.

vodkaredbullgirl · 13/10/2025 09:29

Same here 😖

I'm also getting this massive white ad space with no cross and no image but no text about fostering. I think one text I had was a holiday company and the others I can't remember. Different companies though. Makes MN unusable.

countrygirl99 · 13/10/2025 09:35

I'm getting it to. Something about cycling holidays.

DappledThings · 13/10/2025 09:40

Also getting a massive one that just takes up the entire page. Something about rings.

@HebeMumsnet - any ideas?

Roseshavethorns · 13/10/2025 09:50

The top banner advert keeps expanding to take up virtually the whole screen.
It's not just one advert it keeps changing.

Happyapplesanspears · 13/10/2025 09:50

Same here and it’s not with the same advert each time.

FuckedOffWithTheLotOfThem · 13/10/2025 12:29

@BeckyAMumsnet @HebeMumsnet

Please can you provide an update? The site is practically unusable. See attached image - the ad obscures most of the screen and can't be closed and can't be scrolled past. The bit showing the OP post in green at the bottom is the only bit that scrolls, so I'm effectively reading through a letterbox.

Seriously, switch to an advert-free browser for MN like DuckDuckGo. There’s loads of us doing it now. It’s free to download the app. No more ads, freezing, overheating, etc.

Seeline · 13/10/2025 13:33

This is ridiculous - it's every bloody thread. And now it's happened on my Active Threads screen too!

@BeckyAMumsnet @HebeMumsnet ???

PirateDays · 13/10/2025 13:52

Same here too, had to keep backing out of threads and back in again.

LaChouette · 13/10/2025 14:41

it gets even better @BeckyAMumsnet .
I am not a sensitive soul, but I don't want this kind of message at the top of my pages!

Hello, and thanks to everyone who’s sent through screenshots and especially to those who’ve managed to capture screen recordings. We really appreciate it.
We’re looking into this as a priority and we’re sorry it’s affecting your ability to read threads. We're in the process of fixing the issue now.

Thanks again for your patience while we get this sorted,

Aaah, is the overheating linked to the ads too? I was wondering why my phone screen was boiling hot the other day... Hmm

PickAChew · 13/10/2025 15:42

I thought MN had blocked browsers like that. You have to pay or put up with this crap.

Luluissleeping · 13/10/2025 15:58

I get an Evri one. No cross. Keeps repeating

Kpo58 · 13/10/2025 16:11

I keep getting the same issue of the advent being too large for the screen.

BeckyAMumsnet · 13/10/2025 17:13

Thanks everyone for reporting this and for sending across all the info. We think we’ve identified the culprit and have flagged it with our ad partner, who are treating it as a priority. We're hoping it won’t take too long to get sorted.

We really appreciate your patience as we know how irritating this is and we’re very sorry for the hassle.

Yep. MN has stopped draining my battery extremely rapidly as well. It’s a complete farce.

Beamur · 13/10/2025 17:42

Happening to me too. Android. Ad taking up most of the screen.
