Please remove me from the infinite scroll test group.

Can I please be removed from the test group and have my account moved back to the paginated version? I really dislike the infinite scrolling, it makes it much harder to navigate the threads and means I end up leaving threads and not engaging with the site. I would have appreciated a heads up that I was being placed in a test group and how to opt out instead of being left to struggle with a frustrating and unnecessary change.

Hi everyone, just to clarify something as we can see some users asking to be removed from the test group are using the app. On the app the experience has always been infinite scroll - it has been that way since the app was originally built and there isn't a concept of pages there.

I've also just been cursed with infinite scroll - and I can't stand it. Can you remove me from the test too please?

I much prefer paginated forums as they're easier to navigate and you feel more in control of your SM usage. Paginated forums are also better for your mental health - infinite scrolling can leave users feeling stuck in a never-ending loop and as though they can't reach the end: this it can trigger responses similar to addiction in some people; and it can also trigger anxiety and sensory overload.

The potential harmful impact of this change means it should be an opt-in feature.

I use the app and it’s horrendous. Can’t use the desktop version as don’t have a desktop.

You don't need a computer to use the desktop version, it's a choice when you use the website from any device

I use the mobile site. There used to be a button at the bottom to change between desktop and mobile. The ap was always awful and one reason i dont use it was because it was be because of pages .I xont see the poibt aof pages and that datea back to when some phones and internet couldnt cope with loading a full thread. We actually campaigned to get 1000 page option back when they stopped it, but that was years ago.

I don't know about all phones but I assume they are the same, there is a desktop button as part of the browser rather than being website specific

I hate pages and actually started reading this thread to find out why posters hate the one page version so much. Im still not really sure why.

Neither do i😄

Veggielepsy · 21/04/2025 09:47

Yes me too please, it's really hard to use

Lindtnotlint · 21/04/2025 09:47

I don’t like it either - makes it difficult to understand how long the thread is and how far along you are. Didn’t realise it was a test, just felt like an annoying glitch! Would like to go back to pagination please.

Middleagedstriker · 21/04/2025 09:48

I must be a right weirdo as I absolutely hate pages. So annoying to keep having to click!

Can I ask why? I use another forum that has pages and I hate the constant interuption to reading and not being easily able to move up and down the posts

Its very hard to navigate around the thread once it gets past a few posts. If you try to refer back to your own or others' previous post it's very difficult, and it wastes a lot of time rather than just being able to skip to the beginning, middle or end. As OP says, it reduces control on SM usage.

JamTartLover · 21/04/2025 09:54

Could I please be removed too? I prefer having the option of pages rather than scrolling through?

It's very difficult to keep up with where the bookmark is.

Thank for answering, I know we all do things differently, do you remember the page numbers that you posted on and click onto that one? I would use the slider marker thing on the side of my screen as a guide to progress through the thread but going back to my own posts isn't something I would do

I agree there should be choices, I was just interested in the hate for the long page

AnneElliotfanclub · 21/04/2025 10:10

Please remove me.

Thanks, all. We'll be removing everyone who's requested withdrawal from the test group (and adding those who've said they'd like to try it).

@JoMumsnet This doesn't seem to have happened yet - I am still on infinite scroll. Please can you make sure I am switched back?

Tutorpuzzle · 21/04/2025 17:57

Hello, I’ve asked a couple of times on the other thread if I could be removed from the test group too. Thought I’d try this one as well in case it’s more monitored. Appreciate it’s been a bank hol weekend, but I’m really looking forward to getting pages back. Thanks.

kittensinthekitchen · 21/04/2025 18:43

I always thought part of being used as a test subject was the need to consent and the ability to withdraw that consent if chosen Confused

Kittyberry · 21/04/2025 22:05

Begging now.....please remove me !!! take me back to numbered pages...

CloudyAcorn · 21/04/2025 22:26

Please remove me too

Icanttakethisanymore · 22/04/2025 07:28

I’m using the app which generally works better than the browser version which kept freezing. However, I HATE the infinite scrolling. Do you plan to update the app to pages?

Urbanrenewal · 22/04/2025 07:51

I do sometimes as I post on threads to do with a couple of medical conditions and want to check what I and others have written (not necessarily this username). Usually the threads aren't so long I haven't got a rough idea where I was but it's a pain in the arse to have to find by scrolling. It would be easier to have an option for 'go to all mine '. I haven't got a slide marker, I have to keep clicking

threenaancurrywhore · 23/04/2025 02:18

Please remove me – again! I’ve been removed once and now you’ve stuck me in it again. Aaaargh! Make it stop, please.

Veggielepsy · 23/04/2025 09:59

Can I please be removed?? hasn't happened yet

HebeMumsnet · 23/04/2025 11:21

Morning, everyone.

We've made a note of all the names of those who have asked to be removed. It won't be instant but we're on the case.

We can see there are a few of you who have been removed before but are still on infinite scroll, so we'll check those accounts again very carefully. We did just want to check though that you are all on the main site. We had some confusion last week as a few people didn't realise that there was no option for pages on the app. So if you're using the app none of this will apply to you, but if not we hope to have it sorted very soon.

Rubybetsie · 23/04/2025 11:59

Please remove me too!
